im thinking of buying a pre-owned NMT na lang kasi coz of no budget.

if you are only into movies. you can try the western digital media playeer. it plays mkv files flawlessly based on reviews. @kieron has some coming for only 7k. i think pre-owned pch would cost a little bit more.

If you want a more stable system, user friendly, can work well with not only video ... but music (with playlist, shuffle play, etc.) and photos (with background music .... you may want to try the TViX M6500A or M7000A - it's a bit more expensive, but it's a lot more easier to use and very stable ... i replaced my PCH with a TViX M6500A and I'm very satisfied with it.

how about yung community ng PCH vs other NMTs bros? medyo mas malawak ata support ng PCH? tama ba?

let's put it this way, the company that makes the firmware and hardware for popcorn is syabas, the other nmts like hdx, egreat and what have you pays syabas for the firmware for them to use on their own nmts.

i would say all nmts have great communities. but popcorn has the edge in terms of getting firmware upgrades earlier since they are the once developing for it as well. the others have to wait for popcorn's release before they can update their own respective firmwares. but i think this onl y takes weeks in real time. so i think its no big deal.  :)

Here's another choice with a different, but more user friendly and a lot more stable firmware

Here are some pictures of the unit taken from DVICO website -

Here's the rear view of the TViX M-6500A -

I forgot to mention in my review another cool thing about this device - you only need a power cord to connect it to the AC supply.  There's no bulky AC adapter needed - hate those adaptors from laptops, printers, etc. > magnet for all sorts of dirt

Planning to get one of the NMT or the WD-HD for a xmas gift for my parents.  From what I have seen so far, the WD-HD fits for non techy people kasi wala masyado options to tweak. Half the price pa.  ;D Hopefully, magkaroon lang ng firmware updates soon para magkaroon ng DTS decoding saka better subtiitle support.

there were several cases of the ntms not working with wd passport 160gb usb powered external drives.  the funny thing was, it worked flawlessly with 320gb and 500gb versions.  i'm thinking that the 160gb drive was older and less 'power  efficient'

in any case, it was solved using a y-usb cable (1 mini, 2 normal usb - plug both into the nmt).

the only problem here is 1) sourcing the said y-cable, 2) if you're using an a-110, you'd have to have it separated far enough so one would be plugged into the front usb slot and one in the rear.

talaga bang hindi gumagana ang usb-powered external HDD (e.g. WD My Passport) sa PCH-110?  Or was this corrected already by firmware update? How about sa egreat? Am asking because I have a WD passport which I also plan to use when I get my NMT.

what does NMT stand for  ??? i've been wanting to understand how this device works...newbie sa NMT  ;D

questions po...

can i connect this to my recevier to make full use of my HT system?

where do i source the movie files? do we have a community within PDVD sharing and swapping titles?

can i use this device to record directly from local cable...say NBA game during office hours then watch it at later at night?

can i save my current *irated dvd collection into an external hard drive and the watch it using NMT or i need to convert to another format before i can view the movie via NMT?

thanks in advance...so far this thing is very interesting  ;D

NMT stands for Networked Media Tank

yes you can connect it to your receiver up to 7.1 sound surround

nope it cannot record tv shows its just a player..

yes you can save it to your external hard drive and watch it using NMT

check out www.popcornhour.com.ph for more info

yes, it has component and hdmi for video (old models) then coax and optical digital inputs for the surround sound, newer model's hdmi can be use for both audio and video.

where do i source the movie files? do we have a community within PDVD sharing and swapping titles?

internet, regards to swapping, we dont discuss this freely in pdvd.  ;)

can i use this device to record directly from local cable...say NBA game during office hours then watch it at later at night?

nope, it does not function like a tivo, if thats what you mean.

can i save my current *irated dvd collection into an external hard drive and the watch it using NMT or i need to convert to another format before i can view the movie via NMT?

if you have original dvds, you can use programs that are readily available in the internet to rip the iso files of the dvds, save this to the hard drive, and the nmts can play these iso files. para ma save from wear and tear ang original dvds mo.  ;)

thanks in advance...so far this thing is very interesting  ;D

very interesting indeed  ;D
