Does WD TV Live has DTS downmix?

sorry, but what do you mean by DTS downmix?  =D

I currently have a popcorn hour and my sister loves watching all my media content downloads.  Now she's asking me to buy her one.
She just needs a basic NMT that can play MKV files.  so the cheapest would be her best choice.  She doesn't need any network capabilities since she'll just be copying my MKV files.

Any recommendation?

I think what DTS downmix means is it converts 5.1 surround audio to 2-channel stereo, for direct output to TV’s and/or a sound system that is not DTS-capable.

As for the recommendation, I own the Xtreamer and I'm very happy with it. Its interface is simple to use, I think the upcoming firmware update will include better menus/interfaces.

Now I get it.. thank you so much apple_seed.  So that means if the player can't downmix DTS then there would be no sound comiing out of the TV?  :D

I was planning on getting the WDTV for my sister last year.. since it's the most basic NMT player and is very cheap.... but I hesitated because I read somewhere that it can't downmix DTS audio...

A generation 2 WDTV (Model: WDBABF0000NBK) will downmix DTS Audio.

Unfortunately, being a former WDTV owner, customer support is lousy!  :(

Did a lot of backreading in this forum :)

I was an early adopter of Syabas NMT so I still have an ancient A-100 sa bedroom.

I think now is the time for an upgrade seeing what the xtreamer I got last Xmas can do sa HT setup ko.

What I primarily use it for;

- Torrent Capability (TV shows gusto ni kumander). This means kelangan may ethernet.
- playback for tv shows sa bedroom.

What's missing from my old A-100 that I want

- DTS downmix (so I can at least watch some of the content from the HD connected to the xtreamer)
- HFS (mac user ako) compatibility.
- Sata hard drive compatibility

Reading from the various products now available, am I right that the Cinematube is a good value for the features I want?

Xtreamer vs Cinematube
« Reply #276 on: Feb 08, 2010 at 04:00 AM »
ok, i'm ready to buy my first nmt and my budget limits me to these two.  i tried reading both threads for these two yet i still can't decide after reading.   :(

anyone out there who was able to use both care to compare?  if you could only choose one, which is it and why?

btw, my budget is 6k-6.5k so these are my only two options, right?

I've watched both though not extensively. They are based on the same chip and their GUI's are very similar. Their pq looks exactly the same to me.

For me ... I would toss a coin. But maybe others have more extensive experience.

agree with sir mark. the only thing i could think off that is an advantage of xtreamer is, it uses a more advance realtek chipset. does this translate to better performance. its hard to say from what i have seen with the two players. almost identical. both also have pretty good local support (both distributors are members of our forum). firmwre updates for both seems to come out frequently for both.

its really a coin toss.

btw, will merge this thread to the nmt comparo sticky thread.

Don't also forget the Eaget M880 which is a clone of ACryan playon HD. You can place an internal SATA hard disk up to 2 TB inside its all metal enclosure. All for a price of PHP 6k.

my first post  ;D

guys i'm planning to finally buy a media player basically to use for 480p - 720p anime (subs) files. Mostly mkv and avi.

what is the best and cheapest (sorry tight budget T_T) that i can find?

i don't plan on using it for 1080p my LCD TV only support 720p (Ovation 32") plus i don't have the patience to download such large files. ^^

Thanks.  :)

eh based on product development (bug fixes, firmware updates, etc) which is better kaya?

i noticed mas mahaba thread dito ng xtreamer pero siguro masipag lang magposts mga owners n'ya kesa kay cinematube.

Popcorn Hour A200, downloads as fast as with my pc/mac.
I know HD Pro has but slower downloads in my experience, and I think Mede8er has too.

Cheers!

The Cinematube torrent downloader works great.  It just can't seem to do downloads while watching, though.

I hope all you CT owners get the new Beta firmware; huge improvement on performance.

Yes the internal HD of the A-200 can be NTFS, but you can't format the drives to NTFS using the A-200 or C-200 unit by itself. It only defaults to ext3 so you have to format it using a PC first.

Also if you choose NTFS for the format of your internal HD, you won't be able to have the NMT Applications in the same drive coz' it needs ext3 format for NMT apps to work.

And since the popcorn hour has the most number of applications written for it, even old A-100 units can be upgraded using applications to read/write NTFS as well.

hmm..so magiging madali ang file transfer kasi NTFS ang internal HDD..

sacrifice lang by not having NMT apps..na hindi ko rin naman ginagamit sa egreat m31b ko..yung networking ginagamit ko just to transfer files..

Hello, meron din akong xtreamer. Got this 2 months ago. No problem with the unit. But there are new firmwares already available. Should I use these firmware  updates. May instance na ba nag firmware update at nagkaroon ng problema. Sorry di ako techie. Appreciate the help.
