Popcorn uses SMP8635c; full Linux kernel
Novatron uses EM8623; stripped uClinux

you may also want to consider the EGreat models, which I think has more built-in features rather the the Popcorns... but Novatron seems more promising too. (disclosure: i own the egreat and the novatron and used to have a popcorn)

Can you give us an honest-to-goodness comparison of the e-great vs novatron (and popcorn, too, if you can).  thanks.

pareho lang, kasi they are all using the same software which is from syabas. so once you turn on the different nmts, they have basically the same user interface. they only differ in the hardware side. i am a pch-100 owner,so i wont be upgrading soon, but if i don't have a unit now, i would buy the hdx1000, because the casing is made of 100% aluminum, so its a big heat sink, making the nmt run cooler even without internal fan. and basically have the other bells and whistles of the a-110 and egreat.

the only problem is you have to buy it online, since there is no local distributor for the unit. unlike the egreat and popcorn, so if you dont want the hassle, you have to choose between the egreat and the popcorn. imho, lamang ng konting paligo ang egreat!  ;D

i don't have a pch110 but i do have the m31b and i can say that so far, i have had no problems with it. sulit na sulit yung item in my opinion. To top it off, the service of ehome is excellent. The time i was there, mga 5x yata akong kinukulit kung gusto ko ng softdrinks. sobrang asikaso ka. LOL.

Got my pch 110 and its purring along well so far. am also waiting for the dts decoding capability. The PCH 110 has been getting a lot of good reviews also lately, several 9/10 from some review sites. It has just made things easier for me. I placed all my videos on my PC including home videos into one folder, shared it and mounted on the PCH, and voila! i could watch everything from the TV. No more copying, dvd writing, switching between pc and tv.  ;D ;D ;D

Considering theyre all using the same chipset, performance the same and all, the major consideration now would be freebies and warranty/support.

Got one EGreat from Gren. No regrets so far. Features are way better than my old nmt.

I simply call this thing - "Extremely Great"!

I honestly can't make my comments yet. The X3 you see is only a clip on the DTS-HD demo. I have to watch a full length movie for me to have a good judgment. However, I find no "night and day" difference yet compared with my "X3" dts-es dvd. Maybe because of my 875's auddyssey can really make an ordinary dts dvd sound like an hd movie - IMHO.  :)

Having just returned my recently purchased WD HD media player, I'm on the lookout for another media player.  One of the most important features for me is a fast scan speed.  I just hate it when I had to stop the movie midway and then when I resume I had put up with a slow 'fast forward' speed.   Which among the NMT's have the fastest scan speed?  The WD HD media player can only fast forward upto 16x max.  In contrast, PS3 can scan as fast as 120x.  I remember Gren telling me that with the egreat, you can also use the number buttons on the remote (pressing '1' brings to the 10% of movie length, '5' brings you halfway through the movie, etc...).  Time search function would also be convenient.

8x is the fast forward speed of egreat.  You can also use the seek function by pressing the right or left direction to move forward/backward.  The speed is much faster, around 2 mins forward or backward for every second you press the direction key.  There's also a time seek function.  Just input the time you want to jump the scenes to.

pareho lang, because all three have the same firmware, which is made by syabas. the only advantage popcorn has with regards to firmware is it gets it earlier since syabas also manufactures popcorn, while it supplies the other nmt manufacturers their firmware.

talaga bang hindi gumagana ang usb-powered external HDD (e.g. WD My Passport) sa PCH-110?  Or was this corrected already by firmware update? How about sa egreat? Am asking because I have a WD passport which I also plan to use when I get my NMT.

simple lang ako, i dont use the pch for anything more than watching movies, so in that respect, wala syang pinag iba sa mga bagong lumabas. so i dont think i will be upgrading soon.  ;)
