Egreat S100, it's in the 8k range. I'm just not sure if this is phased-out already.

Thanks, gentlemen, for the info.  I had thought that prices have settled to the 6k range already, like in the EU.

WD TV is the low-end option.  I think it's P4,800 as of June 2012.

Sigma SMP8670 chip; built-in WiFi.

For your budget, consider the AC Ryan Essential.

a little o.t. but maybe useful for other 1st gen wdtv live owners who like me are very frustrated with their nmt.

holding off on upgrading after all. my major gripes with the wdtv live are i cannot use it to watch movies greater than 4 GB and for bt download. it was very frustrating that i cannot use it for the main reason i bought it - watch hd movies. but after doing a few research about my next nmt, i learned that i can do those things after all with the help of my tomato-based router. my router can mnt and share an ntfs disk and do bt download. i can now use my wdtv to watch hd movies.

will still be upgrading but already for a different reason, to watch bd iso. but the need is not that immediate anymore. will try to enjoy my wdtv with tomato router for a month or two first

thanks for all those who pm'ed me their offers.

Thats great.. sometimes we forget to check the potential of our gears and our heads will go agad to upgrade path not knowing that one of our gears can do our requirements...

I'm guilty of this of course... i was suppose to buy a NAS para dun ko lalagay mga media ko until i was able to play with my NMT's who are both capable of being a NAS he he he... Nakatipid din ako 5k, buti na lang..

It seems the cheapest player I've found which supports full BD menus and is Sigma-based is the Kaiboer K730 (around 7.5k).

Does anyone know a cheaper but more capable player?  Shopping for a friend...

You can try the AC Ryan Play On HD, I think its about P7000 plus, it can easily handle bluray ISO.

Have you looked at other Realtek 1186 units? IIRC it plays full BD.ISO PM mo sir si Louie_18 if its full BD.ISO or BD-lite.

I still prefer the deeper blacks of Sigma though.

Interesting discussion here. Just what I need.  :)

Anyway, i noticed that playing FLAC file in WDTV (1st gen) is not good (there's some skipping and takes too long to play the next song).  I am however satisfied with its mkv playing capability save a few scenes wherein the screen turns greenish (possibly a processing error) but a quick fast forward does correct it.

Maybe its time to upgrade.  May I ask for your recommendation (sub -10k price)?
1. Decent playback of mkv files up to 1080p
2. Can play FLAC files.  The ability to play gapless will be nice.
3. Could play music (FLAC or mp3) without turning on the TV is also a plus.  (small screen at the NMT)
4. It will be connected via HDMI/Optical to the AVR so no need for a nice analog output or decoder.

I am eyeing the xtreamerDVD but am concerned of the smaller chipset.  Any other recommendation?

Yung 11K ni Deo na used 210 that includes the 1.5TB HDD

Sell mo yung 1.5TB for 4K, which leaves that 210 for only 7K.  That model is unbeatable and a bargain for that price kahit hindi na brand new.

I also got another 210 from a very kind member for 7K just 4 weeks back.  Awesome device! (Pero mabilis yung Egreat800 na Sigma...hehehe)

Even if you have a drive bay internal, it comes to a point you will expand talaga externally if you collect.

Some like the fact they can do internal but end up using external disks to rid themselves of the hassle of mounting the disks during changes.

Heat is less of an issue for those with fanned chassis to suck put the hot air from the player.
Some nmt use passive cooling (fanless)

I no longer put disks inside even if I am able to, simply to help prolong my NMt. 5 years na my c200 is still alive and well :)

I use this for around 80TB, hot-swappable.   2 wires at the back should not be too messy right?  Not a single corrupted or accidentally/mysteriously deleted file to date.

Prevents the tupperware below from melting as well.   ;D

i still prefer to have an internal HDD, since usually there are only 2 USB expansion ports ... the one used by sir Allan is a good one, di lang pwede sa situation ko dahil sa kalikutan ng mga pamangkin ko

I have question guys...I'm sure a lot of you here have multiple external HD's. For instance, in my case, I already have 5 external HD's and a 2TB internal HD.

1. Are all your external drives connected to your NMT's all at one time?
2. If yes, how do you connect all of them, considering that there are only 2 USB ports?
3. If not, how do you manage your HD's?

 :)

in my case, i have 2x 3TB external connected on USB and another 2x 2TB on NAS, always connected - except that I have the NAS turned-off when not using its contents ... have you tried using USB expansion hub? that may work
