Just a heads up guys and gals,

Did not want to post  a new topic-just FYI.

Heard that the Astro Vision at Promenade was closing.  My suking sales lady said when I asked why they were closing was "Walang Benta" ???  Kiilled by the Pirates at the Tiangge? :-\

I can't understand why they chose that location to put up an Astro store in the first place. First of all, it's near pirate capital (well, so is the other Astro store in V-Mall, but I'll get to that later). Secondly, the space is so small they couldn't possibly have a wide selection of titles to fit in. And lastly, it's not really a crowd-frequented portion of Greenhills (unlike in V-Mall, giving the Astro there much exposure). I guess putting up an Astro store beside the cinemas is not a guarantee for huge sales.

Yeah, I heard a few weeks ago that they're closing by the end of July, I think. Trivia: Have you checked their receipts? They're the only Astro that's NOT "Astrovision" or "Astroplus" - they're "Astroquest".

What I found odd is that their releases didn't always parallel those at Astro V-Mall. They sometimes got titles days or even 1-2 weeks ahead (best example: Indiana Jones Trilogy steelbook with Fedora). Well, it's one less stop for me during my regular Greenhills visits.

Too many stores cannibalizing one another.

Piracy hurts but anyone going to Astro probably is knowledgeable about it and want to patronize original video, so I don't think that's the primary reason.

Video stores are all one and the same, they carry the same stuff, serves the same customers, so opening more stores means the customer base of each store gets thinner, at some point, some store will cost more to operate than sales would allow, so they will close those stores that don't rake in the cash.

In fact, if not for the VCDs (and lately DVDs), most of these stores probably don't stand a chance against download (music and videos).  The Philippine market just isn't big enough...
