basically, you will need an amplifier. medyo complicated, pero i'll try to explain.

your dvd can decode dd/dts signal, you will need an amplifier that can accept these decoded signals for you to know if the amp can do so is usually it has coax/spdif or optical digital input/s in it. so the connection is as follows:

audio part:
dvd (digital audio coax/spdif output or digital audio optical output) -------- amplifier/avr (digital audio coax/spdif input or digital audio optical input)

video part (choose only 1 connection):
1. dvd (composite/svideo/component video out) -------------- TV (composite/svideo/component video in)

of course, you have to connect the 5.1 speakers to your amplifier/avr so that there is sound coming out.

the above scenario is based on what you have right now, so you have to purchase the amplifier/avr and the speakers. very basic amplifier i see some members use is the sakura and konzert around 3-5k speakers basic siguro you can get a sub-sat combi for 10k (thats 5 satellites and 1 sub) pero pag gusto mo mga yamaha / onkyo / hk na amplifier/avr. mga 18k ang pinaka mura nilang models. but you can buy pre-owned dito da market place may mga 6-8k na bumebenta.

2nd option for you and i think its the cheapest and fastest way to get 5.1:

don't use your old dvd players anymore. since i know you are going to buy a 32" lcd. usually may ka-bundle na htib na yan (home theater in a box) which you will just add mga 5 to 10k (depende sa brand). what do you get with the htib. you get the amplifier and dvd player (usually this is in one component na and the 5.1 speakers).

so it has started (thunderoll)..

yup.. i agree with iinsalao...

pero pinaka importante anya is.. decide kung short term or long term...

kung tingin mo ay ma saSARS ka in less than a year's time (upgrade) then go for self setup..

again, its more expensive, pero less upgrade in the future.. ikaw pa makakapili ng sarili mong setup.. andaming support dito at willing to help. di ka mauubusan...

pero if you think youll be satisfied with the 5.1 setup for 2-3 years..

then sell your old dvd player, and get a new home theatre in a box, or get a package sa TV na bibilhin mo.. (mas mura)

sorry, offline kasi si sir waxx, pero i think parang hindi pwede, kasi walang power ang dvd player mo eh. even if you have the 5.1 speakers wala tayong pag kakabitan para tumunog siya, you can't connect it to your dvd player at wala syan amp to power the speakers.

sir anya, may speakers ka na ba? kasi even those small 5.1 system for computers can do actually, but you will need an amp talaga. not just a stereo amp but an amp that can decode dd/dts signals.

ano sir yung dvd with 5.1 included? home theater in a box ba sya? may speakers na? kung meron na at 5k ok na sya. pero look at it closer baka dolby digital lang decode nya, mas maganda kung pati dts decode din nya. pag 5k naman sya pero dvd player lang na with dolby digital / dts decoder lang yan, kahit bilhin mo yun sir, you will need an amp parin.

meron yan, samsung ang panasonic lcds usually may packaged na htib. he also sells lg plasmas and lcd. well, like sir wax said, kung htib ka, mas maganda na yung same sa lcd mo, 1. match sya 2. sigurado you get a package discount. and i think yung mga naka package ngayon sa mga lcd tv mga hdmi based htib na, so medyo future proof kana. tapos ganon din naman bayad mo, mga 5-10k additional lang.

yung lg na nakita mo, htib na yon, may kasamang speaker na pala, yun lang nga, i doubt na hdmi based na siya.

pm mo nalang si sir nemesis (theaterworks) or si sir e-reply (sights and sounds) or just go to their threads sa av store, i'm sure meroon ng mga naka post na packages.

korek si sir iiinaslao...

ok mga package ni nemesis.. ..

yung dvd with built in amp.. sya na ang nag aact as amplifier.. no need to buy a separate AV receiver.. dun mo na sa DVD isasaksak mga speakers mo.. sya na mag drdrive ng power to your speakers..

pag wala naman built in amp.. di mo pwede i plug yung speakers mo sa amp.. so kelangan bibili ka pa ng separate ampli for your speakers.. in this case, you can go for a entry level amp, tapos ibang speakers, like bose, wharfdale, mission, b&w, etc.. tapos mapapasin mo unti unti ka nang gumagastos tapos maadik ka na sa kakaupgrade tapos di ka happy kung walang bayo (bass) tapos too late na..

may SARS ka na...

i dont think im helping.. :(

sir anya618,

2x na tayo nagka deal before. :)

ano ba difference ng composite, s-cable, sa hdmi? alam ko lang kasi ung component which is ung original na dati pa (yellow for video, red and white for left and right speakers)

jacks arrange according to good to best picture quality

composite (color yellow rca jack)                                 - good
s-video (black color with small pins inside)                     - very good
component (three colors rca jacks red blue anad green)   - very very good
hdmi (black color usually gold plated)                            - the best right now ( and you can get audio and                           video in just one jack)

if possible get the htib na hdmi na, para you can utilize your lcd tv's hdmi inputs.

me disadvantage ba ang hdmi?

well, hdmi is a very new interface kasi, but its pure digital signal for both video and audio. actually ang latest nya is hdmi 1.3a, meron din 1.3, 1.2, 1.1. karamihan na makikita mo ngayon ay either 1.3a or 1.2. so what's the difference. 1.3a can carry hd video signals + lossless digital sound like dolby truhd and dts-ma. ang 1.2 naman can carry hd video signals but for sound it turns all dolby digital and dts signals into 5.1 lpcm, parehong surround sounds but yung isa lossless nga, same as the studio master.

disadvantages, ang nakikita kong disadvantage is the cost, lahat ng equipment na may hdmi mas mahal. so pati mga jacks and stuff mas mahal (although may mura hdmi cable sa cdr-king), but of course eventually bababa din yan. aside from cost stand point i don't see any disadvantage, mas convenient nga, kasi isang cable nalang sa likod ng receiver to the players and the screen. mas simple lang set-up.

any difference sa hdmi cord na branded compared to those sold in cdr king?

medyo debatable pa yan, meron nagsasabing, walang difference, kasi its digital daw, so its either its working or not. but there is a thread here (nakalimutan ko na) where a member showed his screen having half good pq and half snowy pq, and he attributed it to bad hdmi cable, kasi after pinalitan nya, ok na. right now kasi, cost of 2 meter hdmi in cdrking is 250 pesos, on the average a/v stores carry brands in the 800-900 pesos worth, usually panasonic, tapos if you look at the market place here you can get a u.s. made one for aroud 500-600 pesos. kaya mura talaga ang cdr king. in my set up, i have 4 hdmi cable, 2 from cdrking, 2 that comes from the equipment i bought it with. so far, ok naman lahat, wala namang handshaking issues between equipments. so i can say, ok lang hdmi ng cdr-king.
