the whole season R1 will be released next year pa. I think Volume 1 on May 19, and Volume 2 on August 4, as reported by the digital bits.

from Variety Magazine's Video Business:

...some popular TV series are still being held back from DVD release because of licensing issues. Fox has looked into releasing season sets of Roswell and Ally McBeal, but music licensing costs running into the millions of dollars have held those up, said Peter Staddon, Fox senior VP of marketing.

Both of those shows began production before DVD was an established revenue stream, and music rights for home video weren't cleared.

Unless the DVD will do a big volume, the cost to get music clearance can be prohibitive. Staddon said Fox is still hoping to negotiate a lower cost for music rights for many of its TV shows.

One TV show DVD release that fell through because of music issues was WKRP in Cincinnati.

"We couldn't afford to do it because of a clearance issue," Staddon said.

I think not. Cover Art says "complete season". It will also include 956 minutes runtime. 6 disc. SRP $64.

That's pretty bad - it's just identical to the special features included with the Smallville Pilot DVD released in Canada and the Philippines last year.

I was hoping they'd at least get the rights to include the hour-long UK documentary "Superman: The Early Years" that had a lot of behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with almost all of the cast.

sinong nakabili na ng R3 ng smallville? complete 1st season din ba? pinag iisipan ko if i'm gonna pre-order the R1 at $48.69 only. pero kung meron R3, baka mag R3 nalang ako, basta dapat complete season.

I noticed from the specifications listed in amazon that the sound is Dolby Digital 2.0. I was wondering if this is really the standard for most TV series DVDs. What I know is Band of Brothers is 5.1; it even has DTS track. I was hoping they would do the same fro Smallville.

Based on what i read on Amazon, the Smallville Series that will be released this August is not complete. The 6 Disc DVD set will not include the pilot episode which was included in the Smallville Canadian released R1 DVD. Meron na bang available d2?

i think they would not release the dvd without a DD soundtrack.just a thought

From what's listed at Amazon and in benny's post in this thread, the boxed set does include the pilot.

Seeing how there may be a Warner R3 release for THE WEST WING Season One, is there any word on this boxed set for R3, as well?

Warner Bros. has officially announced the DVD release of Smallville: The Complete Second Season for May 25th (SRP $59.98). The 6-disc set will include all episodes in anamorphic widescreen video, with Dolby Digital 2.0 surround audio. Extras will include deleted scenes and audio commentary on several episodes, behind-the-scenes featurettes (including The Chloe Chronicles, Faster Than a Speeding Bullet: The Visual FX of Smallville and Christopher Reeve: Man of Steel) as well as a gag reel.
