CHALLENGE! The rare local R3 DVD edition...
« on: Aug 01, 2008 at 05:24 PM »
Here are the rules:

Post any locally bought (meaning Philippines only) R3 DVD you have in your personal inventory/collection that isn't being sold in stores anymore or is not widely available.

Succeeding posters can challenge the veracity of your claims by naming any shops or sources that still sell the R3 DVD(s) you posted, directly challenging you on where you acquired said R3 DVD, etc.  ;D

Or people can just show off by saying if they also have that particular R3 DVD(s) in their personal collection as well.  ;)

I saw these DVDs while I was arranging my stuff last night. Does anyone have...

The Fifth Element (2-Disc Ultimate Edition Superbit)
Kung Fu Hustle (2-Disc DTS)

If you are going to raise a challenge atleast request also the "UPC" of the so called "rare" title.

If you are going to raise a challenge atleast request also the "UPC" of the so called "rare" title.

That does not apply, xage, since until maybe 3 years ago, a vast majority of the Viva (Fox, Disney) and Magnavision releases DID NOT have a UPC. Just quickly glancing through a few in my collection, The Last Picture Show, Anatomy & Anatomy 2 (Magna: Columbia) have blank boxes with weird letters where the bar code-UPC should be; Xanadu (Magna: Universal) has a bar code but where the UPC numbers go has "DXANADU" written instead of the 11-digit code; Signs, Fantasia, Fantasia 2000 (Viva: Touchstone-Disney) have nothing - no bar code, no box, no UPC numbers.

The only company that has been religious with their UPCs for Philippine R3 releases is Warner.

I also have the R3 Kung-Fu Hustle 2-disc DTS. If I remember correctly, the initial price for this is P895. My Fifth Element UE is R1 though.

I think I saw a rare local R3 just yesterday in Astro Megamall. It is a 2-disc deluxe edition of CJ7 with a transparent plastic slipcase. I personally have not seen this anywhere else.

Saw the CJ7 transparent slipcase in Astro MOA. Didn't really like the movie so I didn't get it  ;)

One of my entries for the challenge:

David Lynch's Dune locally disctirbuted by Viva. One of the early efforts to market legit DVDs in the Philippines, I bought this along with Killing Fields back then and only the latter is being re-issued and sold cheaply.

I'll post pics of the said titles when I check my inventory tonight.

I have that. I wish I didn't, though. One of the worst DVDs available on the local market.

Here's my rare R3:

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon initial release. Contains an English DD 5.1 audio track with Asian-accent English - different from the American-accent English dub of the US R1. Contains a 4-page insert. The weird code in the empty UPC/bar-code box is 05990MNWS. Here's the board discussion on how rare this title was... even back in 2001.

Bought Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 as Christmas gifts for my sister's children
Also have:
The Fifth Element (2-Disc Ultimate Edition Superbit) - great PQ! from Tower Records Glorietta about three years ago. I think it was the last one they had during that time.
Moulin Rouge 2-disc SE - bought this early last year (or two years ago? can't remember...) at Tower Records Shang (now closed) for P299

howzabout the batman begins snapcase?

You know, that will be really really rare, since Batman Begins was first released on DVD in 2005, and Warner Philippines stopped releasing new films in snappers back in 2003;D

And are we really counting Warner snappers as "rare"? If so, give me time, I probably have at least 50-100 titles I can post here. Starting with "A", I have Altered States, Analyze This, Analyze That; "B": Big Wednesday, Body Heat, The Bourne Identity (miniseries), Butterfield 8; "C": Caddyshack, Caddyshack II, Calamity Jane, Cats & Dogs, The Champ, Clash of the Titans, Coma, Copycat...
