POPCORN HOUR and SmartBro
« on: Aug 05, 2008 at 02:53 PM »
Hi,

I apologize for starting a new thread pero Im not sure kung meron sa inyong
merong PopCorn Hour na nakaSmart Bro.

I have been posting sa iba't ibang forums asking this question and mejo minamalas
ata ako and walang nakakasagot. Kase I have my PCH unit for almost a month now
and hinde pa den ako makaconnect sa internet. I am using it now only as an "upgraded"
media player pero I wanted the PCH primarily for the torrent downloading capability.

PLease help naman po. Nakakafrustrate den kse hinde ko mapagana and kahet ung pinagbilhan
Most of the issues I can see in the forums are
concerns after connection na.

Walang modem or router involved. Sa firmware update.. sabe hinde daw ako
nakaconnect sa internet. So tinry ko baguhen yung settings ng IP and DNS copying the values from
my PC. Ngayon naman ang lumalabas sa TV is connecting to Smartbro homepage... if it does not

Malamang talaga me mali akong ginagawa e. Hayyy... sana meron pong makatulong. mejo mahal den

Marameng Salamat po!  :)

I guess you have to connect your internet connection to a router first, then from the router to your PCH.

Hi,

Ganun po ba? Pero how come I dont need/use a router when connecting to my PC.
Does this mean po ba na requirement ang router when purchasing a PCH?

Thanks  :)

I think hindi naman siya requirement,
kaya lang most of the modems we use nowadays kasi ay halos single port lang,
in connecting to the web. If you're modem has more than 1 port, then
you don't need to get a router...

let's wait also for the opinion ng mga expert dito and persons who bought the PCH...

Good day,...

Smartbro is wireless ba?  Because PCH cannot handle wireless signal yata..

Hi ABC,

is walang modem, sorry kung mali ito, pero kase from the Antenna/Canopy
Kaya I was so excited sa PCH kase akala ko ikakabit lang to basta basta

or... baka talaga kase me mali akong ginagawa or config lang naman..   :-[

This is what I got sa Popcorn website:

How should I configure the network for my NMT?

Under current firmware releases you really should only use "manual IP" mode and not "automatic". There is a bug where the NMT doesn't correctly store your network's supplied DNS (domain name server) IP addresses and so the internet services (Media service portal, saya TV, youtube, etc.) will probably NOT work correctly if you don't enter your own "manual IP" settings. From main screen choose setup -> network -> mode...change to "manual IP"...click on [save].
Next choose [configure IP] button and check the IP numbers in each field. For the two DNS fields you should use either the DNS IPs supplied by your ISP (Internet service provider) or the internal IP address of your home router.

What type of network sharing does the NMT built-in NAS support?

SMB, FTP, NFS

naku ansaklap naman  :'(

regarding sa manual ip.. i have done this and copied the values from my PC.
ginaya ko yung IP and yung DNS kaya lumabas yung smartbro homepage

Ano po kaya ibig sabihen netong review from pcworld..
http://www.pcworld.com/article/146264/popcorn_hour_a100_media_streamer.html
===============================================================================
It has a 100-megabytes-per-second ethernet port, but no wireless networking. You could attach an ethernet-to-Wi-Fi bridge, but performance will likely not be satisfactory unless you have a strong 802.11n network--HD video is too demanding for regular Wi-Fi.
===============================================================================

Hinde po kaya ang sinasabe dito is young streaming capability ng PCH and hinde yung torrent downloading
nya?

Thanks ulet.

sir, reason ba't di po kayo makakonect sa internet using your PCH is because yung MAC address na naka register sa amartbro portal is yung MAC address nung ethernet (network) card nung pc nyo. If you have another (extra) pc try nyo connect yung smartbro internet cable to that pc and it will prompt you (once you open IE) to login using your smartbro account (this process will re-register the new MAC address). Now, try nyo ibalik yung smartbro internet sa 1st pc nyo and you will be prompt again to enter your username & password. Best thing to do is to use a router which has a MAC clone feature para you can both use your pc & PCh at the same time.

Hi jaklord,

Sir thanks, yun nga den ang mejo ineexpect ko when I connected the cable to the PCH.
Kase whenever i use another pc and connect the internet cable e nagpapalogin
ulet ang smartbro gamet ang account ko... then its the same thing pag ibinalek
smartbro homepage redirecting lang ang lumalabas and yung me ... click here.. na
kapag hinde daw nagautomatically load ang page.

Regarding sa MAC address.. di po ba yung second PC will have a different MAC Address
as well kaya kinailangan magre-register sa smartbro portal? Im just thinking na since
iba den yung MAC Address ng PCH.. it will just do the same pero yun nga po... stuck lang sya
sa redirecting page.

Im just not sure as well kung makakaconnect yung PCH ko with a router if ganito ang case.

yes sir unique po yung MAC address for each network device, I don't have a PCH kaya di ko rin ma-test yung PCH-router combo, pero palagay ko gagana yan kasi once na na configure mo ng tama yung router kahit  10 pc pa ikakabit mo (with switch hub)  magkakaroon lahat ng internet yun. Just to play safe, kung may mahihiraman ka sana muna ng router for testing....By the way smartbro and pldtdsl pala gamit ko sa bahay using dual wan router.

Oreoshake,

SmartBro is wifi yes... so hinde po ppwede?

thats a common perception with smartbro, smart bro is not wifi, its wireless broadband, but you still connect your pc through lan cable. kaya hindi sya wireless connection, wireless sya getting signal from outside to your modem which is in your house. parang dream satellite yan at skycable, one gets signal through air, one through cable but you still need cable to connect to your tv.

while wifi, you have no connection between pc and modem, thats when you need a wifi router to create a wireless fidelity (wifi) signal for your pc's wifi chip to recognize and use.

btw, thats why smart relaunch the service from smart wifi to smart bro, nalito kasi mga tao nun.  ;D

And then kailagan fill up pan yung mga mga account number ata dun.

FYI,
sana makatulong.

tnx ulet taxx and saint,

Just borrowed my friend's router.. Linksys wrt54g ver7.0

redirecting lang sya habangbuhay and walang page to type in the account name and password..
yun ang major concern ko... sana with this router e lumabas na yung actual page
for me to re-register my account sa smartbro.

i'm under the impression that smartbro these days uses 3g, instead of wifi which they used before.

in any case, seeing that i've never had to deal with smartbro before, i'm not sure how you connect.  i'm thikning, just like most of our dsl accounts, it uses pppoe, meaning, you'd need to 'dial up' to their servers for authentication purposes.  as such, i don't think the pch can handle this.

now, you should have several alternatives:
- use a router, though i don't think the smartbro usb device can be used with any normal router
- use a 3g router, if your smart bro comes with a sim, you can probably remove it and plug it into the router and set it up that way

if you want, come over to our shop and we'll have a go at it.  i'm personally curious to see how the whole thing works.  good luck with the router you have right now, if it doesn't work, let us all know and we'll take a shot at it.

tnx ulet taxx and saint,

Hi,

Im really disappointed with myself and with the PCH.
Hinde sya pang network idiot na tulad ko.. lalo pa at naka smart bro ako and
too bad parang wala ng ibang naka smart bro na merong PCH.

I used the router although i don't really know how to use it.
1. Go to 192.168.1.1 sa Iexplorer

I did this pero di nmn tlaga gumana yung internet ko so kinalikot ko na.

1. After DCHP is turned on.. pinalitan ko yung IP address to 192.168.241.1
2. Yung starting Local IP .. i changed to 192.168.241.2
4. Yung subnet hinde ppwede baguhen manually.. me listbox lang and pinile ko 255.255.255.0...

1. I changed PCH IP to 192.168.241.3
2. Changed the DNS to 121.1.3.208, 121.1.3.199 (2 lang kse ppwede ilagay e)
3. Sa Subnet ang nilagay ko is 255.255.224.0
4. Sa gateway is 192.168.224.1

Kopya ko lang yang mga DNS, Subnet and Gateway values na yan sa orig na PC data ko before ikabet
ang router. Wala talaga. Hinde makaconnect sa internet ang PCH.

NGayon I tried naman na ikabet ng sabay yung PCH and PC sa router following the same settings.

1. Yung PC me connection pero intermittent na.. sobrang bagal ata
2. Yung PCH no reaction. Wala talaga e hinde makaconnect.

I even tried na lang yung network connection lang ng PC to PCH.. di ko den napagana yun gamet
myIHome. Kakainis talaga..

I called SmartBro para huminge ng tulong for the router setup.
Sabe kahet kelan daw di nila yun ginawa hehe... ansunget =p

I tried to call again baka malas lang ako sa kausap ko..
This time ang sabe nung kausap ko is magpatulong na lang daw ako sa
personal technician kase hinde nga nila sinusupport ang router setup. Basta

Hayy hayy hayy again...

To Gren...

Nattempt nako pumunta sa shop mo and magpatulong kaso wala ka den smartbro e di ba?
Swerte naman... Sana magkaron na dito ng Globeilnes Broadband.

Sir,

Mali lang setup mo sa router kaya di gumana, and meron ding mali sa settings ng PCH ... here's some simple steps to make it work, this is not the optimal setup however, i'll just guide you to make it work (i don't have that much time kasi tonight, medyo mas mahaba kasi steps and explanation - might not be that easy since you mentioned that you're not so tech or network savvy...later pag di ako tinatamad ;D)

1. Put everything in the default factory setup for both router and pch ...this should not be hard to do, just read the manual
2. The router usually would have 5 ports (4 for the devices and 1 for the internet) ... usually, you would connect the Smart bro to the internet port, for this case, connect the Smart bro modem to one of the device ports (not the internet port).
3. Connect your pch to the router - device port also
4. Verify that the pch is in default settings - meaning auto lahat (naka-dhcp to get the ip address)
5. if you have a PC, connect it to the router - device port also

That's it !!! you're done ...everything should be working fine

Reason for connecting to the device port instead of the internet port - the default ip address of the smart bro modem (which is basically a modem/router) is 192.168.1.1 ....same with the default of the router, hence when you connect it via the internet port - it won't work ... to make it work, you need to change ip, setup ip address range of dhcp, etc....etc....etc....hahaba masyado discussion, try mo muna ito and let me know if it works, then i guide you through the fine tuned setup

tama..yung smartbro ba PPPoE? if yes you need to set up sa router ng linksys under sa 192.168.1.1 then select mo PPPoE yung connection type mo den lagay mo yung username and password..

Hi Raptor,

Thanks for the your help pero back to redirecting page ako e.

Nga pala... The first time I connected my SmartBro cable directly to PCH
and copied the settings of my PC e ganto exactly ang lumalabas sa TV.

Welcome to the SmartBro Redirection Page
If you're not automatically redirected, please click here

Ayan.. and my prob was I cannot click the "click here" link.
I tried to use all of the buttons in the remote. I even connected a USB mouse
hehehe try lang nmn e.. kaso yun nga nadetect nya as USB keyboard so walang arrow cursor =p

I called SmartBro and ang sabe nila e talagang default na lalabas yung Redirection Page
and click here. Sabe ko baket kelangan pa me click here? hinde na lang derecho sa login page?
Di naman masagot ng taga SmartBro..

So ngayon nga I tried using the router then failed to connect then I tried using the steps
from raptor.
back to redirecting page hehehe... andun pa den si click here na hinde ko maclick.

I also tried using PPPoE connection then nilagay ko dun yung username and password ko.
Reboot the PC and PCH kaso ganun pa den. Me connection ako sa PC (gamit ko ngayon)
and yung PCh e stuck sa redirection page.

If only I can click the "click here" link.... any suggestions mga sir?

Thanks Thanks ulet ng marame senyong lahat!

so basically log-in ang problem mo...

Sorry mga sir ganito pala ang nangyare..

1. I followed raptor's steps.. Reboot PC then reboot PCH..
2. Changed connection to PPPoE... setup username and password... Reboot PC then recoot PCH
NO CONNECTION
3. Changed back to Auto DCHP yung router... Reboot PC and reboot PCH
PC connected to net and PCH back to redirecting page...

leomar,

Dunno about the 'embedded login' pero im guessing the same thing sya sa PPPoE

Thanks ulet!

sir,

what kind of router are you using? ...if you can setup your username and password on the router, you should be able to connect both your pc and pch without passing through the login page

sir, if you would go to the setup menu of the router, select PPPOE instead of automatic DHCP ...there is a field there to enter your user name and password ...that should do the trick
