Widescreen TV question...
« on: Aug 06, 2008 at 11:37 PM »
Was installed today, Samsung LA37A450 + HT-Z210.

"Using HDMI, the screen is automatically converted to Wide mode."

But when I play my widescreen ratio DVD, meron pa ring black bars on top and bottom.

Okay naman nung una, kaso me kinalabit yung technician na nag-install; nagkaroon ng black bars sa top and bottom. Ayaw  na bumalik sa full screen.

Help! What should I do?!

Since nasa HDMI mode sya, nakalagay sa WIDE/HDTV yung "TV DISPLAY" mode nya.

Anong dapat kong kalikutin?

there may be nothing wrong at all. Just check the aspect ratio settings of your TV to that of your video player and make sure they match.

There's nothing wrong with your DVD player, TV or DVD media.

Your TV is 16:9. Some DVD media are in Anamorphic widescreen of 2.35:1

If the DVD media is in Anamorphic widescreen format, then the top and bottom black bars are normal.

Check your DVD for the aspect ratio.

Use your remote's Zoom function to set the picture to full screen.. black bars at the top and bottom is normal for the aspect ratio of the movie.. it is supposed to be watched that way.. but if you dont like to see black bars, just press the zoom button on the remote to set the picture to full screen..

Widescreen TV aspect ratio is 16:9, as stated, that's around 1.8:1.  Anything over that will have black bars...many widescreen movies have an aspect ratio of 2.35:1.

Aspect ratio refers to the proportion between the length and height of the screen.

As stated by Philander, anything over 1.85:1 will have black bars on the top and bottom.  Anything below that, will have black bars on the side.

The aspect ratio is printed on the case (but not all) DVD.  Try different DVDs.  Most new TV series will have an aspect ratio of 1.8:1, and thus, fill your screen.  Check it out.

Note that movies are differring aspect ratio, some like Ben Hur are extra wide (to showcase the panoramic epic), so those will have big black bars on top and bottom.

And we are not talking Letterbox widescreen.  That's good for another day, or try Google...

kinda related but for those who owns a panny, i read somewhere about prolonging the pq of your tv and there's something about not using the 16:9 aspect too much when the tv is new and use the JUST option instead...is it true? btw Ive noticed that JUST is better than 16:9 not really noticeable but hindi masyadong stretched yung image
