sir, any reco on locally available 12ax7 tubes?  im currently running matsucrapa.  Although the tubes are to my liking on vocal passages, im planning to invest in another tube that has more aggressive character to be used in dynamic music sana.  Also, san store pwedeng bumili?

Thanks
Paeng
deeco marcos highway may available na national brand na 12ax7 yun aggressive ang sq I have tried it maganda sa fast music.

^ from experience you would need to replace in Pairs to maintain coherence.
Tube source would be AMX(Andrew Sevilla) or Juanbote(Sir John).
Maybe Tony Tecson also has KT-88 on hand.

i have a quad of 6550 and kt88 but i am not selling them...
i got them second hand and i do not want to pass on a potential
problem to the next guy, i can not do it in conscience.. 8)

JJ KT88 are available here, http://epektos.com/product/2c40caf3-ea32-4546-8e12-f08fcc5eeb27.aspx
JJ's are a shade better than China tubes...
out of stock at the moment, but you can email them and ask them
to inform you once they replenished their stocks....
it took me a while to convince them to bring these tubes in,
and when they did, the stocks were gobbled up in a matter of a couple of weeks...
i am trying to convince them to bring in the 6SN7/6SL7 and the 5u4/5ar4 tubes as well...
we have the guitarists to thank for, they are the group that eats tubes for breakfast.... ;)

 Sir Tony / Sir Jojo,

Thanks for the response.

It's a Cayin A55tp. Stock tubes.

Ok let's not dwell anymore into the details of the repair since you already had it looked at by Mang Rod. I think it's fair to say that your amp is now ready to take in fresh tubes.

If I were you (and if I have the money), I'd stick a fresh matched quad in there and just reserve the other 3 good KT88s for later. If not, a fresh pair will do, preferably with the same brand as the original tubes you have now.

Wag ka na malungkot sir, palit tubo lang po yan. Life's too short, enjoy while you can. :)

Cheers

Just want to share this, it never fails to put a smile on my face every time I think of it.

There's this member here (I won't mention his/her name anymore) who has repeatedly asked me if just changing one (1) tube on a push-pull is ok... electrically, it is. But sonically, they should, at the very least, be replaced in pairs.

Ideally in a push-pull, the 4 tubes age at the same time, more or less, so it is prudent that you change ALL if possible (tube availability and funds come into play here).

I think it's safe to say I have a huge amount of patience, however, I ended the conversation by saying this...

"Kung gusto mo magtubo, handa mo sarili mo bumili ng tubo. Nakabili ka ng tube amp tapos titipirin mo pag kailangan mo na magpalit ng tubo? Para ka bumili ng kotse, handa mo sarili mo magpa-gas pag may time, at hindi pwede kerosene ang ikakarga mo... otherwise, benta mo na lang yan at mamasahe ka na lang."

Maybe Jo he/she hasn't really got the answer he/she was looking for. But he really has great faith in you w/ these matters but just couldn't really get it. Like a patient who a doctor gives a clean-bill of health that he's perfectly find but keeps coming back to confirm that there is nothing really wrong w/ him. The doctor gives up & sends the person to a psychiatrist instead  ;D

Now it really lit a smile on my face on a boring long weekend.

Try this guy Bingo Del Mar aka Sir Conrad he has a bunch KT88's. He's from here Cebu but you could ask him to ship it for you. Smart-09192863368 / Globe-09272910400 / SUN-09232393096.

He has also a thread here & in Wired state. GoodLuck ;)

I guess so, I did my best to not sound too technical, tried to explain it as best as I could but the truth is just too hard to handle. ;D

Maybe I should also brush up on my "art of persuasion" skills. 8)

in any case, he will have to bring his amp back to Mang Rod for bias adjustments, since fixed bias yung amp...

and yes, if he can find a seller willing to sell just one tube, (mahal kasi kung apat agad)
then that will work also, since adjustable naman ang bias....

the object naman is to put the tubes in the designed for operating point....

if that amp were mine, i will convert that to self bias, so that changing tubes will not require re-adjustments of bias pots...

the small loss in power will not be missed and SQ will likewise be the same...listening tests have confirmed this...;)

bias adjustment? madali lang naman yun, I'm sure you are more than willing to teach sir Ernel how to do that...

sadly it is not your amp so you can't have your way with it... BUT... maybe he can contact you and have his Cayin modified to self-bias so changing tubes can be easy peachy.

so fixed-bias or self-bias same na lang ang SQ? may I know kung sino ang nag test?

self biasing cost you the grid bias of the output tube,
like the kt88 where it will need about 30 volts, so this is subtracted
from B+ and so your output swing is lesser by that amount..
you lose a little bit of power that way, but to me the advantages
far outweigh the slight loss of power....

rather than think tires, i will bring the other 3 tubes to watsons for testing and found out how much transconductance is left on the other tubes...

tubes may be near the end of their life and still work fine, but only thru emmision testing can this be known...
one tube failing may or may not be a sign that the other three are kalbo na, only thru proper testing can you know...

unlike tires, vaccuum tubes have more modes of failures that just wear and tear....

Absolutely. I use this analogy many times, but also to point out that in tires, 3 can be Yokohama, while the other one can be a Dunlop, as long as they have the same size and aspect ratio. Mas madali na intindihin ang logic, most get it in one pass... ;D

that is wishful thinking. most car users here don't even take their cars to tire centers for inspections. antayin muna yan sumabog o maging manipis bago palitan. meron nga kalbo na ginagamit pa eh, dapat pag kalbo na wag na yun gamitin kasi delikado na kapag kalbo.

they do have a lot in common with tubes... BUT, I'd leave it at that... baka mapunta sa vulcanizing ang usapan...
