Major weirdness going on with Lord Of The Rings Trilogy Steelbook at Bestbuy USA. Looks like they made an erroneous pre-order release date of March 2, 2010. Originally slated for March 7, they moved it at March 2then moved it back to March 7.

As it won the Best Director & Best Picture Award today at the 2010 Oscar (Academy) Awards - The surge in demand will go up for this truly remarkable film released in an ODDLY G1 steelbook but RARE and SCARCE in quantity

Quote
This is specifically meant for US - since the Bluray (same as the bluray logo printed in front of it)  disc & movie information is part of the steelbook art printed at the back of it and not just a silly paper sleeve.

Now thats add up validity of a future rarity.

:D This release is Weird yet Admirable (in a different way)

1. First Summit released steelbook in North America
2. First Bluray with a dvd sized steelbook that has printed Bluray logo
3. The Movie is not bad, its actually good blindbuy movie
4. Steelbook collectors dislike it
5. Its superbly rare/limited in quantity

Hurt Locker - G1 Bluray Steelbook
Bestbuy USA Exclusive

Question lang sir, so a G1 steelbook means it's a BD in a DVD-sized case?  So Hurt Locker BD only comes in this G1 case?  wala po ba syang BD-sized case?  Also, would you know just how rare this is or exactly how many copies were produced?

The reason I'm asking is because I just bought this without knowing that it's in a G1 packaging (I didn't even know what G1 is until today   :P). Although, I have heard that it has indeed become quite rare.  Di ko lang alam exactly how rare.   ;D

I think it's from Thailand.  Kumuha ba kayo nun? ;D

Goodluck on your pending ebay bids!  ;)

@coffeetiger

Are those squares on the lower left printed on the metal itself or they're just stickers?

For the HP 6 steel, the FSK logo is printed on the steelbook itself.  Bad trip nga eh.  It's one ugly looking thing.  I wanted the Netherlands version because it doesn't have that big FSK logo but it's too expensive for me.  The Canadian one is IronPack - I prefer steelbooks over ironpacks.

For the Patriot steel - it's a sticker.  8)

For the District 9 steel, it's printed on the paper flap and not on the steelbook itself.  so it's cool.   :)

Hindi ko pa nakita yun.  Saka takot ako kumuha from Thailand.  I think most of the dvds na nakaoffer sa ebay from Thailand, e metalpak.

OT...  I lost sa bidding.  I was trying to bid on three disney animated titles.  Yung BD + DVD combo ng pinocchio, sleeping beauty and snow white...Sayang...

The Ninja Assassin Thailand is IronPack pala but not MetalPak.  I saw the actual picture.  ;D  But you're right, most of the Thai 'steels' are MetalPaks.  You have to check and double check the internet before buying steels from Thailand.  Yung Ninja, not sure from what country and I'm not sure if it's MetalPak. :-\

Sorry to hear about your ebay bids..  :(  di bale, hintay lang ulit.  malay mo baka better deal pa yung makuha nyo sa susunod.    ;)

steelcase and metalcase, if I'm not mistaken, can be used interchangeably and they're just general terms used to describe packagings that are made of well.. bakal.  hehehe.

the different types of steelcases or metalcases are SteelBook (which is a trademark of Scanavo), Star MetalPak, and IronPack.

Eto po ang example ng tin case:

eto ang spine:

eto ang loob:

hope this helps.

Mam, sorry late response.

Yes, G1 is DVD sized Steelbook, At the level of how the film achieved critical success and how weird and hard it was to obtain one during its release date (it took me weeks and  120miles of driving to luckily get one).

bottomline: ITS EXTREMELY RARE

congrats getting one!

Thanks!  I guess I just got lucky.  ;D

I got another one of those G1 steelbooks - The Twilight Saga: New Moon.   It arrived in the mail today:

I didn't know it's an embossed SteelBook.  It's beautiful!  I never realized just how nice it is until I got to see the real thing (it looked meh in the photos).  I didn't want this at first because I didn't really like the movie, so it's quite a pleasant surprise to see it embossed and all.  Overall, I have no regrets as I got it for only $21 and it is really beautiful!  ;D

Only gripe I have is that it is in G1 packaging.  >:(  On a positive note, now my Hurt Locker won't be sticking out like a sore thumb in my shelf - may ka-partner na sya.  :D

Yep, I was initially bidding on that one - yung twilight (case only) + new moon (w/ movie) bundle ng futureshop.  At least yun G2 steelbook pa.  The thing is, I'm not willing to shell out more than $30 on anything twilight, di ko kasi talaga gusto yung movie, so I lost bidding for that.  I ended up getting the BestBuy one (G1) because the price is more agreeable.   ;D
