Great you remembered I got the WD Green Power from you. I am using it via USB as an external drive with the NMT. Works great. I wanted to use it an internal for the NMT, but have not done so - need an extra temp storage space to transfer the files so that I can reformat to EXT2 (got it as NTFS from you, right). I don't bother too much about transfer rates, as I still use an el-cheapo USB-SATA bridge. But in terms of heat dissipation, the difference between the Seagate 1TB vs. the WD Green Power is very significant - which makes it in my case a better alternative shall people decide on an internal HD for their NMT's (if not particular about write speeds).

Yup, its a compromise between speed and power consumption/heat dissipation if we pit Seagate vs. WD. So, it depends on each individual's use-case preference. Anyway, with the Seagate installed internally using the "new" NMT I got, it was not as hot (note, very subjective, no thermometer used) as how it was with the "other" one. Will check it out for a week and afterwards decide if it is worth swapping the two.

I couldn't get hold of any user manual of your HTIB, so all I could do is deduce from what setup you described. If you have a spare DVD player lying around, or a PC with optical out, you may want to playback DTS DVD titles to check if your HTIB can decode DTS. You may need to check with your HTIB's manual regarding related settings. The config I provided you is my functional setup (don't have a HDMI AV Receiver yet). Also, don't pass RAW bitstream if your HTIB/Receiver/Processor does not support the audio format.
