ZOMG, the 1.5TB Seagate is so frigging hot :P I literally could not hold on to it after leaving it on all night for file transfer (for a DNS 323).  Put it in your NMTs at your own risk :P

mga bro, what's the additional benefit of DTS down-mixing feature?
does this feature matter, if digitally connected (i.e. coax, optical, hdmi) yung nmt/dvdp to avr?
right know i can have dts surround, dts-es or dts-ma in egreat+avr
i find this feature also in my pioneer dvdp, pero di ko alam what's it for... TIA :)

Biggest advantage for me on the DTS down-mixing feature is when ill go to tagaytay/baguio/batangas/etc with my family or friends and bring my egreat along to plug-in the local TV. (Im pretty sure that the rooms in hotels outside metro manila (even those in metro manila) don't have an external receiver that can decode DTS)

DTS down-mixing = DTS internal decode = being able to hear DTS encoded sound via HDMI or RCA without a receiver.  There is NO firmware update for ANY of the NMT's thus far (as of 0818).  We're still waiting for the DTS internal decode update for both our a-110's and egreats.

What 0818 brought for us is DTS-MA/DD-TrueHD passthrough functionality via HDMI 1.3.

yep. i move my m31b around quite a bit. that's why the DTS down-mixing feature is useful to me. i won't always have a DTS-decoding external receiver in the places i go to.

just curious, when you say down mix---the sound quality of DTS decoded internally would not be as good as that compared to DTS decoded via a receiver right?

dts down-mixing means that the original dts digital 5.1 sound is decoded internally and converted into 2-channel analog stereo sound so it can be outputted into analog stereo sources such as a TV's built-in stereo speakers. however, this is definitely no substitute for an external DTS-decoding receiver since you get the full quality 5.1 channel DTS digital sound experience.

this DTS down-mixing feature is useful however when you bring your NMT to other places. You can still play your DTS-encoded movies on other TVs using their built-in stereo speakers and won't need an external DTS receiver as well as a 5.1 speaker system to get sound.

dts down-mixing to stereo is still not supported in the new egreat 31b 1023 firmware.  :(

i'm starting to think that this is already a hardware limitation. maybe the 31b's hardware just isn't capable of internally decoding DTS and converting it to 2-channel stereo. that's probably why there is an optional DTS daughter board available for the 31b while there is no such board for the a-110. i hope i'm wrong though.

i can't even load the new 1023 nmt apps as the nmt setup wizard can't detect my usb flash stick, the same stick i used to flash to the new 1023 firmware.

update: got the new 1023 nmt apps to finally load by changing the filename.

to what file name did you change it to? the nmt apps i downloaded was named 00-17-081023-15-EGR-402.nmt, did you change it to something like syb8634.nmt, which was how the nmt apps for the previous (080808) firmware was named, for it to work? :)

the linda and the .bin file is named similarly though. btw, i downloaded my firmware from the shenzhen site.

http://www.egreatworld.com/en/support.asp

edit: i successfully updated my firmware and nmt apps. i just put 2 copies of the nmt apps in the root of my usb to be sure, one named 00-17-081023-15-EGR-402.nmt and the other i changed the file name to syb8634.nmt  :) i dont know which one was used though  :D

Argh!  Why not?  I thought they usually follow the PCH path for firmware upgrade.   :'(

I remember egreat announcing support for internal decoding of DTS months ago.  Maybe we have to wait until the next firmware update.

I don't think sir that its a hardware limitation of the egreat as all NMTs are pretty much the same. As per PCH forums, the PCH A110 can already downmix DTS successfully. It's either egreat hasn't paid for the license to use DTS yet thereby they aren't allowed yet to activate the DTS downmixing OR the one who adapted the new firmware to egreat systems didn't do a very good job. *shrug*  ???

oh, we have the novatronn unit in store.  still setting it up and whatnot, but if you're curious to see (and compare) both units, side by side (along with the a110), just drop by. not sure how long it's staying though.

we'll be carrying the novatron as well (though we're not directly importing it, we're getting it through the local distro, who have been kind enough to lend it to us).  will post impressions in our multiply site.

Richie, this one is also nice... try to get the model with the wireless LAN support option bundled together... :-) (thumbs-up for the LCD display and unit's button controls but thumbs-down for the whole plastic enclosure) but over-all, a good alternative to the eGREAT's. However, I use my eGREAT much more than the Novatron of late...  ;D

mainit talaga bro, yung 3x1.5tb ko ay me kanya-kanyang harddisk cooler.. baka biglang mawala ang 4TB of MKV's ko.. hehe

nung walang fan, idle at 38C-40C; load at 45C-50C
ngayon me fan: idle at 36C-38C; load at 40C-45C

RJ, have you tried getting the external Vantec NexStar MX casings that I am also using? I am on my 3rd unit of that... thanks also for helping me get the 1.5TB last Friday... :-) (So far, I tried two of my 1.5TB HD's into them and they seem to be working out well despite an overnight operation).

I went to E-Home yesterday and ended up getting another WD 1TB My Studio... I really think I will need confine myself with "Unexplained-Storage-Space-Obsession-Syndrome"... tally to-date: 10TB. I have now to find a good time to weed out my duplicates... I am also creating my own personal jukebox of all my DVD collection before... after that I will sell off my SONY 400-DVD Megachangers --- both of them!

This surely beats the EMC storage total space capacity we have in the data center right now! hahaha

:-)
