Also would like to upgrade the video card. Accdg to this link. http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2008/09/23/lighting-review-of-t.html

"The Integrated IGP is a new bred of Nvidia hybrid SLI. As previous suggested, 8400GS/8500GT can be used to support GeForce Boost (means combine GF8200 IGP and discrete card 3D processing power). You can also hook up with hight GF9xxx, which will use Hybrid power (shut down discrete card power when running 2D and TV output) but not GF Boost (it seems IGP is too slow compared to GF9x, so 3D is delegated to discrete card *entirely*).

Low profile with half hight PCIex16 is required. But I think heat dissipation will become major problem except you mod your case."

I discovered a defect with my Acer, hope that  it does not affect yours.

The LAN is susceptible to overheating.

I found this out, when I placed my 512mb usb at the usb port  beneath the LAN to act as a ready boost, after converting 2 titles to DVD,at  around 2 hours of processing, I lost my network, and the line could not be detected. I took out the line and noticed that the usb was very hot so I turned off the desktop and let it cool down and true enough after an hour the network was back.

This happened the 2nd time when my wireless keyboard and mouse had to have their batteries changed and when I was trying to connect them, again, I lost my network. The usb port was proximal to my LAN; It came back after turning it off for an hour.

I guess this is a problem with mother boards such as these.
Hopefully, I hope it'll give way soon during the warranty, or simply not recur. :-[
Seemingly, building one with a reliably known Mobo is really better as what Nerveblocker did. :P

Will it be the same if you use an external USB hub?

I have not tried it yet, I will and hopefully the problem will not recur, best thing really is not to use the usb ports at the back continuously.  :P

Same thing here. I noticed na kung babad ang USB sa likod nawawala. At mainit ang USB pag tinanggal. Mukhang di pede matagalang nakakabit ang USB sa likod.

only palit geforce 8400 can fit into its slot coz the other videocards are wider especially the powerful ones,i tried to insert my 8500 but it wont fit in... :'(   i mean it can fit into the slot but u have to remove its cover to the sides.....but i heard smaller versions are coming so lets hope that its true....but dnt worry 8400 is not so bad as long as u combine it with 8200 which will become 8500(8200+8400=geforce 8500) :P

Hopefully Acer gets to hear of this problem. It seems to be a design problem. But hey, for php 380 workaround, the Acer model is still a best buy especially now with XBMC :-)

Nvidia 8400 GS costs around Php 1,800.00 (Adapter is included in box).

As for upgradeability, i believe it can be upgraded to the latest AMD quad core cpu. See the link http://www.obsessable.com/desktop/acer-aspire-x3200/

Currently, i have 4Gb ram.

As for the manual, not sure kung saan ang download.

I guess, this already answers my question above... question now would be at what cost price point...  ;D

http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2008/09/23/lighting-review-of-t.html

So aside from the memory and HD upgrades, we can do:

1. Video Upgrade - http://www.rsun.com.ph/view_item.php?item=VPC150

2. CPU UPgrade -

http://www.rsun.com.ph/view_item.php?item=CPU822
http://www.rsun.com.ph/catalog.php?cat=CPU&pageID=2

I guess, we can also do a direct CPU upgrade by using either one of the two and make our units TRIPLE CORE or Quad-Core?
The only catch is that the socket specs required is an "AM2+" while our default CPU uses only "AM2" --- but just found the answer for that too --- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_AM2%2B

I hope someone has taken the leap of faith upgrade on this... I am also interested in trying out the quad core approach... now if there is a shop that can test install before I pay, that would be best for me!

Just incase na ma upgrade yung CPU kailangan din iupgrade yung HSF.
Hindi kaya^ maging bulky na yung HSF? alam naman natin kung gaano
kainit ang AMD processor di ba? Sa SFF na casing baka hindi na kasya
yung bagong HSF...

Gren, have you installed the Activision's Call of Duty World At War with your Aspire X3200 ?  ???

If so, were you able to play it and at what level ?

Thanks for your info, but as of now, the Datablitz and Accent Micro people advised otherwise. :-\

Really would appreciate info from someone who is playing it with his X3200. :P

tapos pala nung nagupdate ako ng driver for the nvidia 8200, nawala yung support for the HDMI audio.. ni-rollback ko na lng.. pero sa ngyon walang use yung HDMI audio kasi kinabit ko na sa analog...

I'm having the same problem . . .

How can I get the audio to work again through hdmi?

And how do you "rollback" the Nvidia? This may be the cause of my problem too.

Geren,

Can you kindly help pm to me where I can get the right 8400GS card. I checked this pm at Park Square IT shops and they're not sure if the 8400GS cards they sell can handle SLI configurations. I saw one shop that can sell the card at almost 2k but they're unsure if that will work with the Aspire default video card.

TIA!

Jack Ryan, I know the question is for Geren, but let me just add that I was at the Alabang Town Center last Sunday and Accent Micro and another PC shop confirmed that "only the 8400GS" can be used with the X3200...however, they advised me not to, since they claimed, "It's better to wait for another one with a low profile adaptor, since it might not be able to carry thru World At War", and they added that I should let Acer Phil in SM Mega to do the upgrade "Bec. I might loose the warranty"
Hope this helps.

Per Datablitz, recommended card that's good for today's gamer until maybe late next year is the 9600GSO and up(better if GT & GTS).

The 9500 GT low profile posted above is ok, but may last only until early next year.

Why don't you guys admit to yourself that this acer is not an all in one machine.  Mag-buo na lang kayo ng gaming setup para di kayo kinululit ng mga anak ninyo.  Sige kayo, magtuturo yan ng kung ano-anong nabili ninyo (using the kids as the excuse) baka mapansin ni es-mi, lalo kayong malintikan.   ;D

TomE, naalala ko nung nagupdate ako from device manager dun ko naencounter itong problem sa HDMI audio.. kaya ni-rollback ko lang din from device manager.. ok na ulit yung HDMI audio... pero nagmanual update pa rin ako using latest drivers downloaded from Nvidia site.. ayun ok na.. updated na yung drivers, tpos ok pa rin yung HDMI audio.. tingin ko lng may problem kung sa device manager ka nagupdate...
