CRT appreciation thread
« on: Oct 10, 2008 at 02:56 AM »
After the R8,A550,CV500,LX80,PV8 and the PV80...

It made me take a step or should I say a dozen of steps back, and re-connected my old ever reliable Philips 29 inch CRT T.V (a blind purchase because I needed a T.V badly). Well, this bleep is old and bulky, but look what I just or almost totally left behind:

1) No obvious motion blurs
2) No Green Trails
3) Input lag is non-existent
4) Works wonder's with my unbranded dvd player
5) Still best for older game systems
6) Great with my LD player

I'm sure, I'll be selling off my LCD's and Plasma's one day, but I'LL  DEFINETLY KEEP MY CRT T.V. It's that one unit I know, that will work on anything you throw at it. May have fuzzy pictures, but I can't deny the WOW factor I had the 1st time I connected my DVD player via components.

It's sad that there is nothing new for a technology that gave reliable fun.

Hat's off to this electron powered buggy! (Maybe, that's the reason why I like plasma, it's like a big thin crt)

 ;)

Your right Carlo, High end HD CRT's still reproduce some of the most film-like images available.

CRT's have the best blacks parin (except if you compare it to the Pio Kuro)
Easily beats a lot of LCD's out in the market.  :)

and also with crts eh mas proven na ang life niya. tumatagal talaga ang mga magagandang crts. sa lcds and plasma medyo di pa ganun ka proven in terms of durability. and with lcds and plasmas kasi eh nakaka tempt to upgrade lalo na when new models are launched while sa crts naman eh hanggang sawa :)

And you'll have more peace of mind when kids use it to watch and play games on. ;) Di ka kinakabahan baka maitapon bigla ang controller ng Wii. Or pindot pindutin ang screen.

Nice, Philips really does have very good pq and so far despite the "abuse", it's still working well.

The Braun Tube was invented in 1897, so the CRT's advantage is that it's had a long time to get it right.  But there's no such thing as a perfect TV, and CRT is no exception.

The biggest problem CRT has had to face is the size limitation, which will probably never exceed 40 inches.  A CRT of that size is not only extremely heavy, it also poses a great risk of injury from vacuum implosion.

As for picture quality, a CRT's picture is not as sharp as a plasma's.

My biggest complaint is about the geometry issue that all CRTs have, which gets worse as the screen size gets bigger.  While the Sony Wegas are the CRTs that are least affected by geometry issues, the drawback is that they have visible aperture grille support wires.

Still, my favorite TV is my 14-inch Sharp CRT, which I bought in 2006 for P4,500.  ;)

In my case, my Tosh 32D2000 is still better in terms of image quality than my Pana PV70.  Blacks are really deep, colors stunning.  Yun nga lang, size really matters in getting that actual "cinematic" experience.  Will have this baby as a keeper.

Sobra nga lang laki at bigat.  If ever I could just put its bottom outside the window (ala window-type aircon). ;)

I will never throw away my 2003 model Sony KV-DX850 Super Fine Pitch 32 inch HD CRT.

For one thing, it's almost 70kgs heavy so I dont even have the physical strength to throw it away.   ;D

It is actually my favorite display for watching MKVs because it outputs the "cleanest" high def image quality (compared to the LCD and Plasma).

The very last generation of high-end CRTs are truly awesome for anything you feed into it.   The very best I've seen is a 2004 model Panasonic (THD30 or something - forgot the exact model) - high defs are very near plasma/LCD definition with brilliant color saturation and contrast.

Brionvega Doney 14-inch CRT limited edition:  $1,000

Brionvega reissues the classic Doney TV set in very limited numbers
1960s design doesn't quite meet modern technology

Yes, it's 'style over substance', but can you imagine your average small-screen LCD from Comet turning heads quite like the Brionvega Doney?

I hope this character is displayed properly.

Find that kanji in your remote.  Usually sa bandang taas.

Time pers.  I actually cannot see the picture you attached.  I'm just assuming na Japanese yung TV. Kung mali, sorry.  Ignore.   ;D

I've heard of stories where buyers find HDTV CRT's at Japanese surplus shops.  Are these true?

Sir Clondalkin, magkano ba score nyo sa 32" KV-DX850 nyo?  I inquired sa Pier and they are selling it at 14K.  Is it expensive or just worth the price?  Thanks in advance.

I think 14k is reasonable as long as it is still in very good condition.

Hahaha.... Thank you sir Jojitv for the palaisipan... uumpisahan ko muna sa 2nd Hand 32" CRT tapos baka mid of this year LCD or Plasma naman.

By the way mga sirs, ano ba ang mas mataas na specs and model for Sony CRT; ang 32DX850 ba o ang 32DZ900?
Ang DX850 im sure is a Super Fine Pitch SFD display, im not sure about the specs of DZ900.
