Sigma 8655 ang chipset. One of the fastest today at 500mhz, better than any realtek out there so far. its memory is also good at 512KB both for RAM and ROM. this is one reason why i'm excited with this unit.

For comparison of the specs on the available media players, check this link:

Maybe we should have a separate thread for the WD TV Live?

It's already available at amazon, too bad I already got the xtreamer.  Anyway, here's an interesting thread at avs, wdtv2 vs cinematube http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1187146

SPECS doesn't always count, we still need to see the performance of this "FASTEST" chipset. HIGHER RAM doesn't always mean better performance.

UPDATE:
Read a few feedbacks from new owners of WDTV Live and it was able to play the sample file of NBA video clip with 60fps which is problematic with many existing media players. So this new chip seems better.  :)

With this in mind, I still will not bite the bullet yet (though I want to try it if I can get a hold of one  ;D). Because my current media player is still serving its purpose hehe! Maybe next year! :D

Hindi kaya dahil sa hardware limitations kaya hindi nila mamaximize ang firmware upgrade, kaya ayun naglabas ng bagong unit na mas advance ang hardware... ::)

just my cents

Don't think so, I believe they just don't want to pay DTS royalties. There are hacked FW versions so perhaps WDTV company owners just want us to buy new ones.

That's what businessmen do anyway... if what ive read from avsforum holds true, it can play 'planet earth 1080p' without hiccups then at least wd people brought out an interesting hd player a notch higher than most nmts out there.

I have read somewhere in the forum that it actually stutters also in the bird scene. Not sure how much though, perhaps smoother than most media players out there?

The NBA clip(60fps) plays smooth as I have seen it in you tube, this plays slow on my pc and does not on my media player.

Still, not enough for me to abandon ship, my media player still serves me well. Im not planning on stocking videos that have this kind of specs anyway. Not worth my HD Space. :D

I read in some forums that it can handle 16 reframes at 1080p while most other nmts can only handle up to 7.

I think i read that too. But as long as most of the available videos out there are not using that, then it will just be a good trait without actual use.  ;D

This might be useful in the coming years when media sources do this 16 reframes(which is unlikely) and HardDrive Capacity/Price ratio gets better.
