Hehehe...been looking for one matagal na. Naubusan ng stocks eh...TPC, Greenhills and even seller dito walang stock.
Buti na lang nabasa ko agad post ni ninja. Thanks again.

You're right, sabi ng Greenhills suki ko when I picked up my spare remote this afternoon, sold out daw ang units ni Axis Global at this time.

Konti lang ang inimport ng distributor.  One sales staff who is an acquaintance of mine said they assumed in December 2008 that the WD would not sell well because the techies were more interested in Blu-ray rather than toy-like media players like this.

For this LOTR RR EE SD x264 encode, around 4gb+.   :D
But generally, you can reencode DVD with x264 around ~1.3gb+.  AC3/DTS audio na.

Hi barrister! May I ask how much the remote was? TIA!

P500, no batteries.  Exactly the same as the remote included in the WD package.

A little pricey I think but at least you have peace of mind that you can get a replacement in case your current one gets broken. Thanks for the info barrister!

any heat issues? diba sa other brands big issue ang heat kasi yung iba after playing and hour or 2 hindi mo na mahawakan yung unit sa sobrang init.

since there is no provision for internal hdd for wd, i can say it will have no issues with heat. with regards to pch, heat issues becomes apparent once you have an internal hdd installed. i dont have such issue since i use my pch with external hdds.

HI.

Im a newbie and about to buy a WDTV...just to be able to play those mkv files with my 32" LCDTV using HDMI.

May I ask first....with WDTV, how can I enjoy a good sound quality as well? I do not have an AVR, I am just using a DVD Home Theatre with 5.1 speaker setup and has DTS Sorround..... but it does not have HDMI and Optical In/Out....only Aux In. So where does the WDTV sound connect?

thanks...

Please correct experts kung mali...

Ang WD TV walang decoder. So kelangan mo padaanin sa AVR (via HDMI or Optical) para ma process yung audio niya. Kung composite lang gagamitin mo pwede pa din naman. WD to TV then TV out to HTIB. Kaso the audio might not be the hidef audio kasi dumaan na ng TV and wala din naman siya decoder. Meron ibang HTiB na meron decoder, kaso kelangan mo ng optical cable (make sure toslink yung isang end for the WD TV). Para video to the TV pero optical ka going to your DVD player. Then Aux mo para lumabas ang sound sa 5.1 mo.

Question...pag HDMI gamit mo pero ang set up is WD TV (via HDMI) --> display --> (via optical) avr...na p-process pa din ba yung DTS etc?

not sure mga sirs ah..pero dts lng ata nde nya kaya i decode..so need mo lng na player or receiver na mag decode ng dts audio

jeyps ganito ba yun set up na sinasabi mo

wdtv - hdmi - tv
wdtv - optical - rcvr

yes it can decode the dts

pero kung ssundan ko layout mo

display - optical - avr

alam ko sir walang audio out ang display..kung meron man ito normally stereo lng

you can use the aux in of your player but analog inputs yan sir so i don't think you will be able to hear DTS sound..kung AC3 baka me audio output pa na lalabas since nkaka decode nmn ang WDTV nito pero pag pass nya eh 2 channel na lang kung analog outs ggamitin nyo sir

Meron audio out ang display ko kasi analog lang ata. So walang kwenta, kaso stereo lang lalabas.
So best set up talaga is HDMI to display and toslink to AVR to get good PQ and SQ.

Can the .srt subtitles of divx/xvid be used in mkv?  Most of the subtitles available are for divx/xvid.  BTW, how do you install subtitles in mkv files?  TIA

Timing is the biggest problem.  High def encodes in MKV container are usually at 23.976 fps while divx/xvid at 25fps or close to 30fps.  You can try the finest controls of your software player (like KMP) to fix the subtitle synch but it can be a hopeless case sometimes.  If the timing is too far off, you'd have to re-adjust synch as you watch the movie - essentially some kind of "variable synch correction"

You can imbed subtitles with the movie or content using MKVMERGE. You can also adjust the synch (audio to video, audio to subs, audio to video to subs) through this application.

If the movie is worth it I use SUBTITLE WORKSHOP (http://www.urusoft.net/products.php?cat=sw) to correct subtitle sync problems. You may want to give it a try as it's FREE.

can this player play all XVID files correctly? I have encountered xvid files that can't be played by standalone players.

I highly recommend this player for your needs.

I used to be in the same situation.  All I wanted was to play AVI files on my DVD player using a USB flash drive, but AVI playback on the DVD player was problematic on many files.

With the WD, my AVI-Xvid/Divx files, including the problematic ones, have all played flawlessly so far.
