Mga bossing, can you help me?  I just got my wd tv hd media player two days ago.  kaso, while playing lord of the ring two towers nawala agad yun video in the beginning of the movie, kya wala nako makita though naririnig ko pa rin yun audio tuloy tuloy.  Anu kaya problema nito?  yung part lord of the ring 1 ok walang problema but yung two towers may prob.  Ganun din yung harry potter yung ibang series nawala yun video pero you can still hear the sound while its playing

question:  anu kaya problema nito yung video file or yung player?

edward

The title of the movie is irrelevant.  What is relevant is the file specs.

Forums say it works fine up to MKV Level 5.1, unless reference frame number is too high.  VC-1 codec does not work in .MKV containers, but works in .M2TS containers.

Please fill in the blanks:

Container           : _MKV_
Level                 : ______
Reference Frames: ______
Video Codec       : ______
Video Bitrate      : ______
Resolution          : _720p_
Audio Codec       : ______

If you have not yet updated to 1.01.02 firmware, please do so.

The firmware reportedly fixed the occasional "black screen while only audio is playing" issue with .MKV files, although the fix was not declared in the official release notes.

Users' Unofficial WD Bug List Thread on avsforum:

Latest firmware: ver. 1.01.02.

Fixes only 1 minor issue:

"Resolved the issue surrounding updating the firmware from a large (500GB or larger) drive, previously the WDTV™ would not recognize the updated firmware on a large drive."

Download firmware update (1.01.02) and release notes (1.01.01 & 1.01.02) from WD TV Software Update Page:

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/wdtv/

Click "Download Now" and "Release Notes".

----------------------------------------------

Safe firmware flash method, if updating from a version earlier than 1.01.02:

- Get a thumb drive; save its exisitng contents in another location; reformat the thumb drive.
- Copy the extracted .BIN and .VER files to the thumb drive.
- On the WD, go to Home > Settings System > System reset > OK.
- Eject all connected drives, then physically disconnect all USB ports.
- Connect thumb drive to the WD, then proceed with firmware update instructions on the release notes.

also, what will happen if i connect a pc, multiple external hds mem cards, and the wd hd player via a usb hub?

Hindi gagana yon.

May mga software na bumabasa ng details.

OK lang sir.  Wag mo muna pansinin yung file details, magulo talaga yan.  Tutal, hindi rin naman ako expert e.  ;D

Edvard, try mo paglaruan yung freeware called Mediainfo.

Is it possible for you to try your files on the PC you're using to make these posts?  Or maybe a friend's PC or NMT?

Kung problema ng file, usually it wont play at all, or would stop playing somewhere..pero sabi mo meron naman sound (tuloy-tuloy?), and when you pause and play, lumalabas.

Sooner or later, you will notice just how many video files a DVD player's USB port cannot handle properly.

It's going to be a frustrating experience.

Not just the files but the file format of the hdd and the limitations of the file format. Even if you were able to make a FAT32 formatted HDD run via DVD USB you won't be able to play any hidef movies since it is normally higher than 4GB. Plus the fact that not a lot of DVDs handle .mkv I don't think it'll be possible to run a hidef movie. But if you're just doing TV series and SD movies that'll do.

That's right.  Maximum file size for FAT32 is 2GB.

Plus the fact that not a lot of DVDs handle .mkv I don't think it'll be possible to run a hidef movie.

AFAIK, there is presently no DVD player that is MKV-compatible.

But if you're just doing TV series and SD movies that'll do.

Even very simple media files have playback issues on DVD players.

I like to keep my equipment simple.  If low-bitrate AVI media files with common codecs can play flawlessly on my DVD players, then I would not have had any need for yet another gadget such as the WD.  Unfortunatlely, media file playback on DVD players is unreliable.

My TV series are encoded in AVI container, Xvid video and MP3 audio.  File sizes are 350MB per 1-hour episode.

On the DVD player, some of those TV show files play with dropped frames; some disable the time display; some forward at 2x maximum and cannot be reversed; some stop and go back to the beginning whenever the reverse button is pressed.  But all of them play flawlessly on my WD.

I have one AVI-Xvid file (also a 1-hour TV episode) that has portions that flicker on the DVD player.  It also flickers in the same portions on my PC using Nero ShowTime, Windows Media Player and Winamp.  But it plays flawlessly on my WD.

I transcoded a DVD to AVI-Xvid; audio is untouched direct-stream AC3 5.1.  File size is only 1.5 GB, yet it stutters badly on my DVD player.  But it plays perfectly on my WD.

Maraming formats ang puwede sa high-def files.  It just so happens that MKV is the most popular.

My advice is to stick with MKV for high def files.  We really have to go for the most widely-used, since that's the only way to at least have some semblance of spec standardization.

If you can't replace the problematic titles with a different MKV file, you will have to re-encode it yourself.   Try Super http://www.videohelp.com/tools/SUPER .  Very flexible but difficult to learn, pero OK na rin once you get used to it.

In my experience with the fake DVDs, very few BD-to-DVD9 transcodes are good.  Dropped frames of the severe kind is the common encoding error.  Most of my acquaintances don't notice it.  But they all see it after I point it out to them.   ;)

Whenever I see a well-encoded fake DVD-9 in a BD package, 99% of the time it's just a direct copy from a standard DVD rather than a BD transcode, but packaged as BD for marketing purposes.

Sir edubaret, this forum has a strict policy against piracy, so hindi tayo puwedeng mag-mention ng file-copying.

Besides, I don't have any high-def files anyway.   ;D  :'(   Try sending a private message to sir ninjababez.  I'm sure he can help with the files ;) , but no forum discussion please.

My advice is to keep your setup simple.  The more complicated it gets, the more time it will demand from you.

But you will still need the program SUPER by eRightSoft (actually a GUI of several programs) to view the video file's specs.  Just drag the file to the bottom window and double-click the file to view the specs.

I finally joined the bandwagon.....the WD TV HD Media player was being sold earlier at the Gaisano Store in Gilmore, at 5.8K, and since Quest Logic is so far in Paranaque, and the price is the same I decided to get one for myself.

I'm now in the process of upgrading the firmware. ;)

(example: kung may 40gb ka...dapat 30gb and 10gb ang partition..)

:D :D :D  You're welcome, sir ...

Pero curious lang ako ...  Di ba dati ka nang may HTPC? ...  Bakit pa gagamit ng WD player?  ... At bakit pa magtitiyaga sa aXXo?

Number of reasons really:
1)The advantage of the WD TV HD Media Player is that you can use all your HDD(I have at least 6 TB as of my accounting of Axxo type files) for your movie viewing pleasure. Unlike the other NMTs like Egreat/Popcorn wherein the HDD that you installed will probably be the only HDD you'll use , with the WD TV HD Media Player, it's mainly Plug in and out (and as what you have supplemented with picture before),and use it on your CRT. ;) ;D
(In which I still have been maintaining mainly for it's Closed Captions capabilities, and I cannot use my HTPC on my CRT).

2)It can recognize a HDD formatted to NTFS, whereas my usb equipped DVD players can only recognize FAT32 formatted HDD(which is a disadvantage to maintain).

3)Portability-Going on long vacation at most times will place you with accommodations that only have a CRT for your viewing pleasure.During my last travel, my laptop became my media player for the week.

4)Cheapest player that can decode MKV,and you're assured of the one year warranty. ;)

and additionally'

Quote
... At bakit pa magtitiyaga sa aXXo?

1)I'm a content type of person.

2) I am fully satisfied with the way the axxo files were encoded(Imagine a 700mb movie file, the more the merrier, It's a library I want)

3)The axxo file releases are up to date(The latest DVD release),and the hard to find titles are mostly in the Axxo type of files for e.g. The German Count Dracula with Klaus Kinsky will probably not be released in MKV.

4)MKV files are mostly the commercial type of films that are easily available whether as an original Blu Ray release, DVD release or even you BluRayray'an which I feel is much better and cheaper to purchase rather than a 7.8G MKV on an average 80kbps download rate.(tried once, a 5 G file took me 3-4 days on a good connection day) :P

5)Lastly....MKV 1080p files are only for HTPCs. ;) ;D

BTW...I'm still  pro HTPC, it's just that a new product is available and due to it's price affordable, so why not buy one?.......another thing......last night; I played with it and found out that The Dark Knight 1080p cannot be rendered, but I'm expecting this, I just wanna confirm, about the limitations of this player.

Another Thing; the trend nowadays in one of the sites that i frequent is to release a BDRip Axxo type of file. which averages 1.5 to 2 G.Most of the time, it includes the original AC3 audio. ;)
