Try this thread:  http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=74005.0

I like Ratatouille and Hamlet (1996).

Also try Casino Royale and Pirates of the Caribbean 2.

You might be disappointed.  Many new standard DVD releases have even better picture and higher bitrates than the Superbits, a DVD line from Sony that was discontinued in January 2007.

Thanks!  will check out the links:)  Training day is also a pretty good looking dvd.
Panasonic 58pz800u and BD55
Onkyo 876
Ps3/Xbox360
Dynaudio 6.1

actually, all my dvds are non-superbit/ regular versions.  Honestly, I've never heard of dvd5 before:)  I guess that's why my 12 monkeys is so grainy (but excessively so).  My Gladiator is the signature selection.

I hope to try superbit on my system in the future.

Ill try to bring some probably on thurs after lunch ;)

875 and 876's upscaling is indeed awesome. Sound too, but thats OT already.

I have also been happy with my SD's for quite some time now... till I got my popcorn hour  :D.

Although I did fiddle around with the 876's ISF's edge enhancement and noise reduction and it produced very unsatisfactory results for me so I just went back to ordinary HQV processing.

Anyone with links on fiddling the 876's ISF? I find myself too busy or lazy to fiddle around lately.

^ we are just going to try SD upscalling performance of OPPO 983 vs Panasonic Bd55 vs Onkyo 876. Everybody knows SD is no match for HD no matter how good your upscaller is :D

My guess: Oppo 983 and Onkyo 876 will have very similar performance, while BD55 will be poor.

But in order to do this, aside from reference DVD's, you should also have test DVD material, such as the HQV test DVD.
No room acoustic treatment is like running a Ferrari on ice.

Yep, indeed. That has been established. But "upscaled SD is good enough" is a subjective issue, to each his own.

I watched Fool's Gold 2 nights ago in upscaled SD after several days of watching HD's with popcorn (on a 1080p PJ). It doesnt beat HD indeed, but still good enough IMhO.  :D

Yup you are right, its still good enough. Biggest factor is the quality of the material pa din. Very good SD upscaled will probably be even with not so good quality BD/HD ::) :)  Syempre ang goal pa din is to salvage our SD collection kaya naglabasan itong mga upscalling dvdps., pero for new titles dapat BD na ang iniipon ;D
