Aluminum Finish
« on: Dec 09, 2008 at 01:17 PM »
Help: Aside from anodizing the Aluminum, can we paint it using clear paint to retain the appearance? I mean to avoid oxidation. Normally aluminum will turn dull and will turn to black in a long run if not always cleaned. Is this also applicable to bronze? TIA

Jun,

Another option is to ask a machinist regarding what they call "machine finish", its not too glossy but not dull (sory can't find the words to describe it). If this is a new project, ask them to use higher grade billet of aluminum which doesn't oxidize as fast as regular aluminum billet. Regular car wax is used to clean these machine finish.

This option is still much cheaper than one off anodizing.

Hope this helps man,

Jojo

Jojo thanlks. actually the best way to preserved the beauty of Aluminum is anodizing. However, I'm doing a prototype project. Sa mga tabi-tabi na machine shop lang dito sa Angeles. Once nagustuhan ko siya, saka ko siya papagawa sa mga machine shop na may CNC.
There are Aluminum which they call Industrial type which doesn't oxidize easily.
Thanks again Jo!
