pre, just to be sure.. try muna natin maglagay ng sub sa setup mo and let's hear the effect.  i have a small 8" sub that's easy to carry around but it packs a wallop (100w rms, 400w dynamic).  nasa kaibigan ko pa, test din niya sa setup niya just to get an idea what size he needs.  pagbalik niya dalhin natin sa inyo.

mga bro. ano bang maganda setup sa dalawa?

medyo nahihirapan ako mag decide dahil parehas kasi maganda ang marantz and harman. 80% music and 20% movie.

Marantz 4300
8.1 front
wh-2 (center, surround)

or

Harman Kardon 1550
8.1 front
wh-2 (center, surround)

dolby,

ok yan pareho pero mas maraming features yung marantz against hk. i suggest though if your choosing hk choose the avr2550 instead of 1550.

it's up to you kun alin dyan ang papabor. it myt go down as features against musicality. dats just my opinion.

hindi ba nakakapagtaka pag sa store malakas pero pag sa bahay mahina na  ::) (using same kind of speakers)

Yun room ko half size lang ng demo room so it should sound louder pero grabe ang hina.  Yun settings mo na +10 lahat ng individual speakervolume is todo na yun, nung binalik ko yun 6300 sa store the speaker level is just +6 (pero malaks na, as in).
One more thing is  yun mga marantz 4300 users di sila umaabot ng ganun so something's not right  :-\

Hi Gutierez!

I think I got my setup working already and satisfied na ako.  Although I know there are still lots of tweaking to do.

I guess it was not the AVR's fault at all!  It was mine.

First, the speaker level.  I've set them ALL back to +5 (in the mean time) and it sounds just right.  I also connected my 10" Sub for added boom.  Set all the speakers to SMALL.  But in fairness, OK na din kahit walang sub.  Pwedeng pwede for stereo listening.

What finally did it was the room.  I placed it in a 3 x 4 Meters dedicated room for entertainment.  PLaced the speakers in their proper positions, used Bi-wiring for the front Left, right and center using guage 10 speaker wires.  And then that's it.

Okey na siya!  Maganda na ang tunog.

Regards,

Nice to hear that.

You may also try to set the main speakers to LARGE and NONE for the Subwoofer in stereo/music listening.

You will hear a more detailed bass and a full range sound.

If your accoustimass 7 speakers is capable of biwiring then you can have it biwired.

These images might help you:

pare i may be wrong but i think the missing link in your setup is a subwoofer.  would be interesting to hear the speakers in your listening area, but your philips dvd player, sr6300 receiver & cables seem fine.

i stand corrected mga bosing!  gutierez let me listen to his setup yesterday.  mahina nga talaga siya parang pigil ang tunog.  buti na lang hindi ka muna bumili ng subwoofer pre.  the wierd thing is that when he brought his gear to my place, it didnt sound that weak at all.  in fact at one point while testing it on my setup he drove the volume up to -5 and i had to cover my ears because it was already too loud for me.  hmmm.... this is really strange.

how about the speaker connections?  i noticed while connecting the sr6300 to my speakers that the speaker terminals are arranged differently from my sr7300.  in the sr7300 the terminals are all laid horizontally separating the + and - terminals, while in the sr6300, the terminals are laid out vertically separating the L and R terminals.

SR-6300

SR-7300

bro, how much is it bnew?  i got it 2nd hand from a fellow pinoydvd member.  it was in bnew condition very well kept, and he sold it for the same price range as a bnew sr5300.

its quite a big investment to get it brand new... if you want u can audition it in my listening area, dala lang kayo ng coke at siopao hehe bili naman ako ng pizza.

kimera, my previous receiver was a denon 2700 (80w x 5)... i dunno how different it is from a 2803, but for music i think the sr7300 (105w x 6) is better than the 2700.  for movies it's almost the same.

i used to have 4 AE aegis ones + the aegis center paired with the denon.  the AE speakers are very musical speakers.  unbelievable mids & bass for such a small speaker (38hz in free space).  but they are pure audio speakers, they may be too refined for HT.  the slight rolloff in the high frequencies mask out too much detail in surround effects.  so you can get better excitement on movies with either B&W or MA.

Anybody who have upgraded from SR4300 to SR6300? Is there any dramatic improvement in terms of musicality? At the same sound pressure level (not volume level indicator of the unit), do you think there is a marked edge of the SR6300 over the SR4300?

wala pang update galing kay gutierez so ako na mag kwento.. bro i hope u wont mind.

nagpalit na siya ng yamaha.  di na natin malalaman yung mystery.  i heard his 6300 in his house and talagang mahina nga.  i thought it may have been the speaker connections, but was not able to confirm.  people from spectra & the home theater inspected it too.  anyway, its a mystery coz he brought the same receiver to my place and hindi naman ganun kahina.

pre akyatbundok,

yah, i remember you were testing it pre at his place. i was able to talk mr. sonny tuazon of hometheatre and he said that it could have been caused by either of the three:

1) room acoustics
2) having no subwoofer
3) problem with the dvd player, low output.

am also reading a thread in ecoustics.com about a guy in the philippines who wanted to make his marantz6300 sound "brighter" with his mission speakers. this might be gutierrez and he was opting to replace it with a yamaha. anyway, am still choosing between the hk3550 and the marantz6300 for my setup.will decide by the end of the month.

I'm back hehehe nag vacation ksi ako for almost a month so I don't have a chance to get online.
Anyway wala  na yun marantz and just settled with the yamaha 640, so far I'm satisfied with it medyo pangit nga lang for music.

cousin skeeter, pre audition mo mabuti mahirap na magmadali but if I wer you I'll get the HK3550 ito kasi dapat kukunin ko pero out of stock pa before.

I will be going to THT, possibly today to audition the SR 6300. To be sure if this model would be a worthy upgrade. Just to expand my options besides HK 3550. If no significant diffrence in the musicality of the 4300 and 6300, besides the power, then 3550 will be my only option for now. But I have yet to hear the 3550, I only heard the 5500 so far.

But if I have the money for the 5500, I think I would rather buy a separate audio amp, and stick with my 4300 for ht. It's really for audio listening that I'm planning to upgrade.

Hi JVM,
I'm also on a lookout for ways to improve my 2 channel listening. And from what i have read so far, a dedicated 2 channel amp will surely beat an av amp at the same price point and several price points up. So if you are happy with the home theater performance of the 4300 but you are just looking to improve stereo listening, then spending the money on a dedicated stereo amp would be the way to go.
just my 1 peso (=US$0.02)
