Hi peeps! I've read a lot of good reviews about the SR4200, does the SR4300 perform similarly? I'm seriuosly considering this to be my 1st AVR after reading the reviews that its good in music as well as HT. I was previously choosing only between RXV430 and the Onkyo 500, but after learning that this AVR is almost in the same price range.  I feel it would be a better buy.

Anybody please PM where I can get the lowest price for this? thanks!

hi!

i think it's around P 23k...i suggest if you have additional cash to get the 6300...much, much better especially in 2-channel stereo listening mode...it's like getting an AVR and integrated amp in one...i've listened to one already...i was totally impressed...better contact sonny tuazon of THE HOME THEATER or RENE RIVO...thanks!

none on the unit i am using.
this problem was also a topic on hometheaterforum kaya when i got the SR4300, this was the first thing i checked. if you would read reply#80, i have mentioned this for the benefit of those interested on this affordable AVR but thinking twice because of prior problems.    :)

I finally bought the 4300,I just want to know if there is really no demo disk included.now my problem is like many people here I'm really having a hard time in choosing between the mission and the wharf.I already auditioned both speakers, but that didn't seem to solve my problem.in fact I think it left me more confused.to my untrained ear it's a tossup, although I think the mission has a miniscule advantage,is it really worth the almost doubled price.my flat is only 25sqm so heres what I'm chooshing between.feel free to give your comment.thanks

bigbird2323,

bro, good for you if you can't hear the difference between wharf and mission.
mas madaling mag-decide.  :)
if acceptable naman sa iyo yung slight disadvantage ng wharf at gusto mong maka-save, go for Wharf.

I Agree with Dex, go for the mission, maganda rin naman ang wharfs pero mas maganda ang mission.

But if u want to save, wharf is fine

bigbird2323,

Sorry for the intrusion, hoping this would contribute a bit.  For almost 6 mos. I've been enjoying my setup with a wharfedale diamond series and a marantz sr4300 receiver.   So far, i've been enjoying an excellent performnance of this setup.

Before I used to have these WH-2 surround speakers, however, i replaced them with the diamond 8.2, for the reason that the wh-2 is not tonally matched to the diamond front and center speakers.  The 8.2 or 8.1 is excellent for the surrounds.

If you are planning to have the wharfedale diamond as fronts, then, better the 8.2 because it has ample bass like the 8.3.  The 8.1 doesnt have.

Regarding my marantz receiver, no problem so far.  Excellent performance in fact, during the audition the marantz has the same volume level with onkyo 6.1.  And consider the price difference.  I bought the marantz at P19k while ongkyo 6.1 costs 30k.

IMO, choose Mission speakers. I heard it with Marantz, Denon and Onkyo and it was very good. You wont regret even if its more expensive. At least you wont upgrade anymore, rather than getting Wharf and you would always think that it would be better if I got the Mission.

Bigbird!

Levi hits the bullseye! Mission is the best for Marantz, Denon, Onkyo because of their similarly implemented layback amplification.

Further, it may ache you later to have a separate subwoofer. As such, there might be no point to expect bass from your front/center/surround. removing bass from your main amp relieve much stress to the amp and divert the extra amping effort to subwoofer amp.

bookshelf is normally better performer  (from about 90-20k Hz) like the case of 8.1 compared to 8.2 or 8.3. It is cheaper too and requires less space.

Thus, if you will be investing in a subwoofer, you might consider rationalizing your front and surround and save for a subwoofer - which I think will be included in your ultimate setup.

bigbird, philander, i sent you guys pm's sorry for the very late response, i was in  a convention in la union. anyway i agree with the others the missions sound great with the marantz, but so does my wharf. if you've got the budget get the mission instead of upgrading later on.
but as for me, i don't have the budget and i want to get it na so i got the wharfs and frankly, i don't have any plans to upgrade. so far i'm happy with my set-up even if i'm just about to get my center diamond tomorrow and the sub next week. with the wharf i'm bound to save around 10 thousand siguro. just my insights.

Marantz SR 4300 Personal Review (Initial)
(Sorry for not being technical.)

Just bought a Marantz SR 4300 from the HomeTheater last Saturday for my sister.

Technical Pros:

The cheapest DTS-ES, DD-EX, 6-channel Amps available locally.
Easy to set up.
Has 6.1 preouts
4 Digital Inputs and 2 Digital Outputs
Powerful enough @ 80 watts/channel; it drives well my custom-made (by me) 165 watts speaker.
Very good in Stereo - two-thumbs up
PLII does really enhanced stereo sources if you prefer listening music in 5.1/6.1 mode.

Cons:

No OSD - bearable
SR (System Remote) cannot control other A/V equipment - (!)  >:(
Generic Remote
No component video ins/outs
User manual is a piece of junk.

I tested first the receiver with my current set-up (my sister does not have speakers yet), with Yamaha center speaker, locally custom-made (by me) main speaker, MB Acoustic Surround Speakers, SAST DVD Player, 80-watts dual 8” active subwoofer (55 Hertz cute-off freq.), Regular RCA cable (worth Php 15.00) to connect the Receiver via coaxial digital. (Please do not comment on my set-up.)

Marantz SR4300 is very good in stereo mode; you can really hear the clarity (not bright) and the warmness of the sound. Not as boomy like Pioneer and Sakura (well, these two are known for their boomieness), so you really need to add subwoofer. Great sound separations, there is no distortions even at high levels. The sound improve dramatically especially in music. Concerts DVDs are superb. Did I say this unit is superb in stereo mode?

While in movie mode, I did not notice much difference, I'm using Pioneer ProLogic Receiver (Sakura Prologic then), although as I’ve mentioned, clarity is defined especially in the Center channel. Marantz are not as boomy as Pioneer and Sakura, most movies contains LFE sound so, if you are going to use Marantz for HT purposes, subwoofer is a must.

Things to clarify:

In the Marantz USA site, the SR 4300 is equiped with 96kHz/24 bit D/A Converters as showed here:
http://www.marantz.com/p_product.cfm?id=2353&cont=u&line=rcv&cat=hf&series=he

However, in the Europen Site it is indicated that it has 192/24-bit D/A Conversion for All Channels and has A/D Converter of 96/24:
http://www.marantz.com/p_prod_specnew.cfm?id=1816&cont=e&line=avr

Can anyone verify or explain this?

Verdict:

Since my speaker systems is just a so – so (tonal, which is very important, are not match because I am not using the same type/driver of a speakers), I must admit that I should not expect gradual, huge and dramatic difference compared to my Pioneer set-up. My audio connection is poor; of course I will get a hi-grade coaxial and/or optical cables (no time to get one yet), and will post the findings later. I haven’t tested yet the surround back, I don’t have a speaker for such.

I haven't done much tweaking with the SR 4300, but I could see it has potential, power and capabilities.

Anyway, if budget permits, we’ll be going to invest for Mission speakers.

Just my opinion....

Hi, as I stated in the Technical Pros:
The cheapest DTS-ES, DD-EX, 6-channel Amps available locally.
Pre-outs
Very good in stereo, my sister & I prefer music over movies.

But that's just us, this is indeed a good buy.
