« on: Jan 06, 2009 at 11:29 PM »
Mabuhay!

With the erratic situation economies all over the world are experiencing, affected din ba ang pamimili mo ng CDs/DVDs/BDs? in what way/s? and ano mga tips na pwede mong i-share to get the best value for your money when buying CDs/DVDs/BDs to add to your collection?

TIA for any response

Buy only CDs/DVDs/BDs that you will watch over and over and over again.

Do not blind buy.

Try before you buy...  okay, local retailer don't allow this but you can try from other sources...offline and online, if you really want it then think if it's a title that likely to sell out soon or get restocked if sold out, that should guide you whether to wait for it to go on sale...

Go watch the movie in Theaters, it's a fraction of the price of a first-run DVD.

Do not preorder anything locally, those promos are hardly promos anymore with no discount or freebies being offered for ordering blindly... sure, you could decline to buy it if the products turns out to be inferior (like TDK batpod) but I still feel a preorder is a contract...

For titles you really like and want in your collection, buy a copy from your favorite tiangees or other sources.  Then use it to satisfy your urges until your local Astro or Odyssey discount the real deal, then snap it up and keep it safe in your collection, like it meant to be pass down to the next generation...

Also these acronyms might help.....

Dee-eeeS-eeeeL
eeeN-eeeeM- Teee

________________

Personally, I am trying to make it a habit of watching whatever I buy first before going out to another Astro, this should lessen my unwatched and sealed DVDs.  Although If am sticking to this, it might be a year or two before I go back to another Astro...  So maybe just my purchases in 2009...  It's a hard-habit to break...  Too bad, there's such thing as a  no DVD patch (ala Nicotine Patch)...

You should buy DVDs that

- You will enjoy watching repeatedly
- Gives you the best value for your money depending on your situation or money that you have
- Had a recent price cut

How about selling unsealed, mint DVDs in the marketplace? ;)
Buying members will then have an opportunity to buy DVDs at a lower price. :D
Sellers will get additional funds for new purchases. :D

1. Avoid double-dipping
2. Buy titles that you'll watch over and over
3. As much as possible, wait for promos or sale ;D

Only buy what you like. Don't give in to your speculator mentality or even collector mentality.  ;D Hehehe!

Me? I just buy movies/TV shows & music CDs that I really really really like.

Same goes for my spending habits for toys and comics.

Also, wait for prices to go down. Trust me; Stores do overstock.

Plus, decide what version you'll buy. There's Single-Disc, Double-Disc, "Multi-Disc", Gift Sets, International Release, Director's Cut, etc...

Stop being an impulse buyer! Be a thinking buyer.

Watch out for big bargains like those Buy-One-Take-One deals, as well as those P199-or-less priced DVDs.

For P199 each, I bought Ocean's Eleven and Fame.

Some stores do clearance deals. I bought 300 (2-disc edition) for a mere P275 at an Astroplus, when all other stores sold that same movie at P599.

Mabuhay!

Isa rin madalas bago ko bilhin ang isang pelikula i make sure na nire-research ko reviews sa kanya kung bonggacious, or so-so lang or tsakanes so para i get real value for my moolah.

till then....

It would be great if Warner would slash the price of Blade Runner: Final Cut all the way down from its current P699 price.

siguro na atin na yun kung anu ang priorities.... Lahat naman tayo me priorities na din na very important. That sometimes buying DVDs is harder na if you weigh in the practicality of doing so.

pero while we kick our own a$$es to work in order to pay bills, sustain daily necessities.... we deserve to be rewarded naman of our good work :)

So go ahead and buy. That's my opinion. But buy with good balance of practicality din ....

Like me i average about 1-2 DVDs in a year :P I buy what i REALLY like top keep. Mas na aappreciate ko yung expense ko this way ;D

my humble opinion po :)

It may affect not only retail sales but even production of players and disks. For more info, visit this thread:

http://pinoydvd.com/board/index.php?topic=90713.0

And the link given in the last article, together with the latest news via Bloomberg, Yahoo Finance, and others.

Highlights:

- 93+ pct drop in global shipping

- major quarterly losses or drops in profits for electronics companies and even mining and chemicals, with possible permanent contraction or even closures

- general assessment is that we see an L-shaped recession, i.e., one that will go on for years

- UN and others believe that riots will take place worldwide over food and other necessities

Aside from the goverment's orbital tactics na pag f-feed satin ng kanilang trapezoidal abstract queries na the economy is getting better(daw, kuno),Yeah right....siguro dahan dahan muna sa boxset's and if your into the series,be sure (for the sulit ang bili ko thing) na you have'nt watched it yet(if you saw it (or the bits there of) sa tv-CHANGE THE CHANNEL)...para pag binili mo-matching the smell of a newly purchased dvd boxset, magiging excited and hindi ka jaded(buying for the sake of having it or________(fill in the blanks)
