Where can we buy this Intel D945GCLF2?  Specs: http://www.mini-box.com/Intel-D945GCLF2-Mini-ITX-Motherboard
It seems that PC Express and Rsun are selling Intel D945GCLF single core Atom only for around P3T.  I plan to build a cheap office PC with this.  I have reservations for HTPC though because of its VGA port and no SPDIF support (according to the specs).  PQ in DVI or HDMI is better than VGA.  http://forums.nvidia.com/lofiversion/index.php?t50789.html  But I agree, for people looking for a cheap alternative, this combo seems good enough for the price.  ;)

I got mine from tipidpc...
http://www.tipidpc.com/itemsearch.php?sec=s&namekeys=d945gclf2

Please take note that for those who will build an HTPC based on the Dual Core Atom platform (D945GCLF2), the 1080p files I play are only at bit rates of 10-11Mbps.  I tried playing a video file at bit rate 33.1Mbps and it stuttered.

sirs,

How can one have HTPC? What do I need to convert my PC into HTPC?

My current PC has Intel Core2Quad, 2x 2GB DDR2-800, Palit 9800GT 1Gb, and I have 32" LCDTV HDMI-ready.

My PC has 2x DVI ports, but no HDMI port.

Please tell me what else do I need to convert it to a HTPC?

Total noob here...

Thank you very much.

Purchase a DVI-HDMI cable and you can hook your HTPC to your LCD. Your PC can then give out true 1080p. It will now depend on your LCD if it can accept 1080p.

media player classic. pwede mo siya download dito http://www.mediacodec.org/

complete na siya with codecs. kung kailangan ng guidelines sa pag setup ng codecs, pwede mo check ito

VLC is very versatile.   It's probably the media player that has the least restrictions in terms of compatibility with file encode.  Problem is PQ does not look as good as that of KMP or Media Player Classic.

I agree with sir Clondalkin ... I would also recommend KMP or Media Player Classic ... besides the PQ, I think that the VLC player also uses more PC resources - the Iron Man (1080p) stutters on my PC when using VLC, the PC is already quad core, 4GB memory, and HD4670 video card ... the problem does not exhibit when using KMP and Media Player Classic

KM Player + the special sauce, I think you're made until 2160p.   Current version might stutter on 4320p though.   ;D

Oh yes, agree with Raptor, VLC will drain the juice out of your CPU.  It's like a vampire - the Let The Right One In Type - not the Twilight vegetarian type.   ;D

thanks for the reco mga bro!
nagstutter kasi VLC when I played Jerry Maguire 720p pero maayos pag pinatakbo sa egreat
yung mga bago ko download e.g. Benjamin Button 720p naman runs without stutter sa VLC

Honesty it depends on many levels..

besides the pros and cons..

HTPC have many many variations..  it can cost from 10k-(ordinary casing) to 100k or more. remote you can get cheap ones like cdr-king 200+pesos only.

if i'm going to compare a 60k HTPC to a Popcorn hour or egret i'll definitely go with an HTPC.

for me PQ and SQ are always better in HTPC (if you have the proper set-up and configurations)

Other things to consider is..

Go with HTPC if you don't have a PC or Laptop.

Go with NMT if:
your main purpose is only watching movies. ease of use for the family.

@dinoalbert

you prob need a HDMI to DVI cable or an adaptor.

also Get a Big HD for me minimum 1TB

@elvenears

Sir HD content, Most people Get it from someone selling NMT..
some people including me have been downloading it since 2007.
With regards to ripping it is also possible but of course you'll need a BluRay Drive, BD Title. and to say the least a powerfull Proc to cut down on time.

IMO - HTPC.  Dami mo magagawa sa HTPC -browse, word processing, gaming, etc. Hassle lang sa una ung pag configure ng codecs at pag kuha ng remote. Pero after that, ok na. ;D

HD media is not a necessary requirement for a pc to become an HTPC.  A computer with capabilities such as standard definition video playback or any type of multimedia playback on a "home theatre", be it just a regular television with, or even without, a decent sound system can be considered an HTPC.

Now, in order to get HD media, there are several ways.  You know as well as I do that some ways are frowned upon.  In any case, we are all resourceful.  ;D

Such a pain not to be able to forward and rewind freely on the 31B compared to PC.    I just took a drink while the wife continued watching.    Wanted to rewind a little bit when I returned to the TV room but couldnt.

Can you do this on the PCH or the WDTV?

With the m31b, you can do rewinds/FF in increments of 30s, if I am not mistaken.  It is as "free" as we can get. :)

Puidi na rin yung 10%, 20%...90% na seek that corresponds sa number keys sa remote ng Egreat - pero kumukunot pa rin noo ng Wife ko.   ;D     Ako naman medyo naging spoiler when I watched a UFC special.  Pagtalon ko from 40% to 50%, knockout na bigla si Chuck Lidell.   >:( ;D >:( ;D

I've managed to make the audio quality the same between the PC and the NMT but parang may tendency na mag-audio drop-out sa NMT (Egreat) especially kung DTS ang sound stream.   The same sound stream is very smooth and continuous via the PC connected to the same AVR on another optical channel.  But the audio drop out is not so bad, at any rate, and I haven't encountered a file that wouldn't play (mkv, avi, ts).  BTW, Im still using an old FW.

Is there anyone here who has successfully used Buffalo's latest line of 1TB external hard drives (CE something series - the one that looks like a small book) with any NMT?

Tried with PCH and Egreat.   Both got stuck in the "loading" screen but the same external drive works perfectly on any PC.

Here's the link

Ang cute pa naman nung white case.   :(
