What is the intended purpose? HT or pure Audio? What amp do you plan to partner it with?

Sir,

Im using it for pure audio.

I paired it with LM216IA, Cayin CD-50T, Musical Fidelity M1 DAC, REL Sub.

May I know your thoughts on this sir?

Thanks

Those are nice gears. Having only heard the 600 series S2 and the CM1 S2. My impression against the S1 will be,  these new versions have a smoother top end than their predecessors. I have tried the CM1 S2 w/ a variety of solid state amps(Mark Levinson, McIntosh, NAD seps from Watts Hifi), and it is not that picky unlike in the 685 S2. I'll also tell you a secret. The CM5 S1 is one of my favorte bookshelves of all time. Sound is thoroughly engaging and is flexible enough to run different types of genre with ease.

Haven't tried any CM series with tubes though, but I had extensive experience with the LM216IA having briefly owned one. It is my favorite affordable tube amp. It has that warm lush sound of tubes without giving up the dynamics we like in a solid state amp. My only gripe was the power consumption. Do you find anything wrong with your set so far?

Thank you sir for your thoughts. I truly appreciate it.

You see i am just a newbie at tubes and from what I hear, these combinations sounds pretty good to me.

I am considering upgrading my amp to a an LM501 with a KT120 tubes. Im not just sure if it will make any significant difference in the sound quality by upgrading to a 100watt amp. Any thoughts.

Many thanks

I think there is going to be a big change if you upgrade to KT120 because I believe the CM series responds well with increases in amplification. I actually was impressed hearing the diminutive CM1 with the ML amp pushing atleast 200wpc. It made the mini-bookshelf sound a lot larger than it is and the bass got more pronounced. Watts Hifi in Makati Cinema Square carries both B&W and Line Magnetic, maybe you can try out that combination to see if it fits your liking.

Great! I would suggest you also try their Krell, Classe and Rotel amps there. Might be a good match for your B&Ws.

Heard them last week at my friend's house (jazzed up). Stunning speakers for the money.
