Question for anyone else here who collects R2 discs...
« on: Mar 08, 2009 at 12:37 AM »
I have a question for those of you who collect R2 discs:

Have you noticed a higher percentage of DVD rot in these R2 discs than seen in the rest of your collection?

I'm a bit pissed right now, I just found out that 3 of the 6 films in my R2 Sean Connery James Bond Ultimate Edition boxed set no longer work. This is from MGM. I've had R2 titles from Paramount and Momentum that refused to play after a few years.

Quite annoying.  >:(

^ I do not have much R2 discs to answer your question sir.

But in my collection, R3 Columbia picture DVD's in clear SCANAVO cases have rotted the most.

(Lawrence of Arabia 2-disc, Bridge on the River Kwai 2-disc, Bram Stoker's Dracula(superbit), Bad Boys and Kung Fu Hustle 2-disc)  :'( :'( :'( :'(

Thanks for the reply, juancho.

Well, looks like i'm waiting for the R3 Sean Connery Ultimate Collection to go on sale, then. My previous purchase was such a waste of money... kakaasar.

Just curious, would it still be possible to rip and burn them to DVD+R DL discs?

I only have about 20+ R2 DVDs.  The majority of my collection is R1.  So far, none of my R2s has suffered from DVD rot, but I have had 2 R1s that rotted.

Just curious, would it still be possible to rip and burn them to DVD+R DL discs?

I tried, just now.. my DVD drive couldn't read the discs, making it impossible to rip.   :'(

do we need a video converter (PAL to NTSC) when ripping them? is that possible?

I use DVD decrypter to rip the discs.  It rips both PAL and NTSC.  No need for a converter.    ;D
