Nanggaling ako sa Raon kanina with a mind-set to buy the Nova698... pero parang tinabangan na ako at di ko nalang binili.  I think I'll hold on to my xtreme na lang muna.  Why?  Kasi nalaman ko, wala na syang bit rate indicator feature!  E yun lang naman ang reason why I plan to replace sana my xtreme with Nova player.  Yung kay monzki may bit rate pa, swerte nya sa batch na nabili nya.  I think ito ay parang case nung xtreme, yung 1st batch units may bitrate feature tapos the later and newer batches wala na, which unfortunately yung last batch pa nabili ko at that time. Umuwi akong empty-handed at nanghihinayang... though now I feel i loved my xtreme player more than ever!

Sayang naman... did you look ba sa other stores sa Raon?  ::)

Well, the one that I got is sealed pa in plastic and didn't notice any fading sa mga control knobs.  FYI lang  :)

nova audio products are being sold in uniwide stores and sm hypermarts. (transistor radios, vcd players, amplifiers/receivers, speakers, dvdplayers). though i dont think they have the dvd-698. they have a dvd-648, dvd-388 and other models. the model that looks exactly like the dvd-698 is the dvd-2809, the faceplate, that is. im not sure about the menu. didnt have time to check it out.

i was able to ask one of the sm sales person about the nova dvd players and he said that like the promac and pensonic players, the nova players are locally manufactured from china parts. im not sure about this but there might be some truth about this.

when i was looking and canvassing for a generic player, this was about a year and a half ago, i only saw the nova players in the few stalls that sold pensonic and promac players. also, the designs for the nova players are similar to the pensonic and promac players. oh well, as long as it works as good or even better than the nextbase and extreme 6500a players, then it would be a good buy!

also saw this brand in uniwide warehouse club, and the 698 looks like the 2809  which they had on-stock, and when i ask if they have the 698 model, they said it was already phase-out.
i'll check the menu of the 2809 by weekends if it's the same.  i think it cost 2,+++.

Wow! Mas cheaper yung price nya and newer model pa! :o

Just check na lang if it has the same menu options just like that of the Nova DVD-698 to ensure that the unit utilizes the Mediatek1379 Type 2 chipsets  O0

Bro,

Refer to the menu pix that I posted... pag same siya ng look and options, sigurado na Mediatek1379 chipsets ang gamit nung unit  O0

mukang ok po yung player! tanong ko lang sir kung natest niyo na po ba yung audio (coaxial RCA) output niya? and if it works for a 5.1 setup. Balik ko kasi ikabit sa Pioneer Receiver. Thanks :)

tanong na rin kung anu sa mga generic players ang ok yung (coaxial output)?

Yup!  Na-test ko yung unit sa 5.1 setup sa Stall 52 when I bought it and it works  O0

Pre, ano ang video D/A converter spec nya? 10bit DAC kce yung sa xenon ko and branded ones like sa philips is 12 bit /108Mhz video processing na. How is the image pag dark scenes? Does it flicker or pixellate na parang vcd? Ito kace mga reklamo ko sa current player ko now which is more than 2 years old already. Ano ba advantage nung mentioned na chipset? Is there a user  personal setting for the equalizer function that allows u to tailor sound or puro presets lang? Ano warranty nya? Hehe... sori po dami ko tanong. Kace i plan to use this to a High def ready sony and Im itching to buy na a progressive scan dvd player para matest ko sa tv!

Hi all,

Meron na bang bago with the Nova DVD players? And are there reviews of Nova users who have used their Nova's for more than 1  and 1/2 years?

I have bad experiences kasi with Nova DVD players.  It plays great, plays most DVD's I have and also passes torture tests like continuous playing for more than 8 hours.

UNTIL you clean the lens. After a while kasi (about 6-8 months), you'll feel that it needs cleaning because of the skipping and namimili na siya ng discs. I used a cd cleaner and then wallah!!! , wala na siyang binasa kundi audio discs. I verified this because I bought another one and guess what NOVA ulit. This time mas matagal kong nagamit because I refrained from cleaning the lens with the use of the cd cleaner even when it has started skipping.  But after a few months more, hindi ko na rin napigilan- pinasukan ko ulit ng cd cleaner, I tell you, I was not surprised that it didn't play DVD's anymore. Now, it's my dedicated cd player and nothing more. Does this happen with other players? Anyone out there who had the same issue I had? For others who still have working NOVA's please don't test them if they'll fail after putting in your cd cleaners - they might, or more accurately, I think they will. Or maybe this is just my isolated bad luck with two NOVA players. EWAN KO.

Dell-tech,
The Nova DVD player that I have is the DVD689i, same model as that of Monzki's but without the Bit rate determining  capability. It's almost had the same capabilities as that of the Xtreme DVD player, but I had a problem with it's remote control, which seemingly malfunctions once your beyond five feet from the said player, hence, I had it changed after a day in my possession. I noticed that the Nova DVD players, are a bunch different form another since, we had a hard time looking for the particular remote for my model, even though, the Nova players remotes' alike.
The Nova has been with me for the past two months, and so far, I noticed that it's rather more selective than the Xtreme in playing DVDs, I have not experienced the skipping that you have described, and hopefully the model that I have is far different from the model that you got.
Now regarding your problem, there is still a solution for that, you can take it to a repair shop in Quiapo, the technicians in Quiapo are now quite versed with "Lens' problem" and you can wait for your player since, they can easily resolve it in a few minutes.

Same experience din with the remote, at first nga I thought battery-related problem lang but when I replaced it with a new Energizer batts eh ganun pa din kelangan ko pang lumapit ng konti sa player para gumana yung mga pressed buttons considering mga 7 feet away lang ako sa player  :P  Mas ok pa yung remote sensitivity nung Xtreme ko dati  :-\

More than 2 months na yung NOVA ko sa akin (heavily used by me and my 2 chikitings) but never ko pa naman na-encounter na namili siya ng discs, lahat ng isalpak ko even heavily scratched discs were flawlessly read except for those na may encoding problem and verified defective even sa ibang DVD players and DVD-ROM drives.  So far, I'm extremely satisfied with its performance and with regards naman sa "lens problem" no worry ako since naka-abang yung decommissioned kong (beloved) Xtreme DVD player (busted circuit board   :'(), perfect fit naman yung disc tray loader w/ lens sa NOVA ko eh  :D

Kahit tumagal lang ng 1 year yung NOVA ko eh I'm happy na and no regrets...

Why?  Kasi with its darn cheap cost, extensive features utilized and the joy/fulfillment derived eh solve na solve na ako  :D

Now if it lasts longer... then I'm truly blessed  ;)

Cheers!  :)

I just compared it to my Nextbase and Xtreme DVD players and among the three, it's the most chossy, my player is different from what you got, it's the one that doesn't have the bit rate determining capability much like the newer versions of the Xtreme.

Ah okay... that's sad to hear bro!  :-\  Maybe what I got is an old stock  ::)  Oh well, I just hope and pray that my unit lasts... sana even longer than my all-time fave generic DVD player "Xtreme" that recently died on me after 2 years of use and abuse :-X  Anyways, I consider the NOVA 698 a reincarnate of my XTREME 6500A since it has the same extensive features and great performance of the latter  8)

May nakapunta ba recently sa Quiapo? Was just wondering how much it costs now?
