When they search for the contestants, they show them "documentary style" going across America, and Simon does his best to insult the applicants, to make them cry... giving them a dose of "harsh reality".

Plus the fact that the finalists are voted off by audience phone calls brings a "Big Brother" Factor into play. Big Brother in all other countries except the US, that is, since in the States, it's the housemates who vote. The international formula of phone votes failed for Big Brother-US when they tried it in their first year.

well, in the international arena... american idol will still play second fiddle to "operacion triunfo" ... cause that's the one who started it all... it's now on its third year....

Actually, "American Idol" is a franchise of the UK's "Pop Idol", which first aired in late 2001.

The British version of France's "Star Academy" is "Fame Academy," which aired in the UK in 2002. Didn't "Star Academy" come before "Operacion Triunfo"? I'm not sure, but I read somewhere that the French was the original version the other shows were licensed from.

oh yeah. forgot all about pop idol... meron pa... popstars... how could i forget them...

oo nga no!... mas maaga nga ang star academy! by two months nga lang. star academy has it's finals in december and operacion triunfo is in february. wish ko lang kasi i-carry ngh tv5 yan dito eh. buti pa OT napapanood ko... every weekday and sunday! 6 days a week!

we are watching the osbournes on MTVPhilippines right now... and guess what??!! NO BLEEPS!

they are airing the UNCENSORED version of the episode... complete with all the expletives!

Next Action Star

Not my favorite by far, but I don't think this show deserves a thread of it's own.

I really don't know what it is, but this show bores me to death. Well, I do know that none of the picks have a single ounce of personality in them (I wonder if that's what it takes to be a Hollywood star). The only interesting contestant was Viviana, and she was way past borderline psychotic. Same goes for the judges, who just irritate me for some reason. Interesting concept, bad execution.

There's a new reality show I just read about on Yahoo TV called Fire Me... Please. It's the opposite of The Apprentice. Contestants have to get themselves fired to win $25,000.

I saw it last night on CBS, its pretty unique. However the pressure for one to be fired is somewhat drastic.. given they need to be fired before the 3pm deadline.. and whoever be fired at the nearest 3pm deadline wins.

Probably it got good ratings because its new, but as I see it.. a possibility that this new TV show will not last long

Beauty And The Geek

Holy Crap! Did this show blindside me. I never expected to actually be proud of watching a so called cheesy reality show, but godamn, there is nothing about this show that I can be ashamed of.

While not unlike other shows which tend to highlight the worst of its cast/players this show does so, but with the intent of making the transformation of its players all the more noticable. Ashton Kutcher may be a tool, but he finally did something right when he got behind this show.

Backstabbing is kept to a minimum and I really believe it when most of the players say that playing the game is only their secondary motive in joining this "social experiemnt." Above all, they just want to learn as much as they can about stuff that's just beyond their comfort zone.

Everything about this show is just gosh darned cute that I can't help but watch it whenever it's on. Also, this is the only reality show that I can stand to watch the reruns.

I'm glad that they're showing the second season right now, and I am eagerly awaiting the third season once The CW gets up and running.

Couldn't agree more with you... the first season was really fun but I always thought the guys weren't really that geeky... Looks like other people had the same idea as the geeks for season 2 are really, really, stereotypically geeky...

I'm also glad they changed the host... the first host wasn't too good as he lacked spontaniety...

Couldn't help but laugh during season 2's 1st ep. when the geeks went outside one by one to meet the beauties who were in bikinis... some of them really didn't know what to do and were frozen in shock (or delight) when they same the bikini-ed babes...

That guy Josh is my favorite geek on the show.

Couldn't get enough of the show so I proceeded to "acquire" each episode of the 2nd season. Unfortunately, the last two episodes are nowhere to be found.
