Shaq makes sense for Cleveland because he can provide the muscle and inside presence that Cleveland seriously lacked. And with Lebron`s passing, I`m sure Shaq will prosper in the paint, just sitting his lazy ass and waiting for the alley ooop or those cutting passes from King James.

As for Redick developing into a defender...well, very unlikely. He doesn`t look like he has the athleticism or at least the foot work to be a decent defender. Shooting is his forte. He just needs confidence that goes along with the playing time.

Cavs are not yet done reloading. They're trying to land a 4 (Charlie V & Sheed are in the running). Plus an athletic wing (2 or 3). Plus they're trying to move up in the draft. Dan Gilbert is on a spending spree

He should be. I remember an article last year (can't find it now) discussing the Forbes list of most valuable franchises--where Cleveland ranked fifth at $400++ million (maybe around $470 million). It figured that, being a small market team, without Lebron Cleveland would be worth the same as the likes of Milwaukee or Memphis--about $270-290 million. Which means Lebron by himself is worth $200 million. Is there anyone else who's more underpaid than him? ;D

Lee is a better and a peskier defender than Redick, and it's going to be a really tough offseason for the Magic to make the necessary adjustments now with another bad defender on the #2 spot coming in.

Ainge must be smoking some funny cigarettes then coz you`d be high to trade a point guard of Rondo`s quality.

I`m not too crazy about that Vince Carter deal, especially if it included Courtney Lee. I mean, would you shove Hedo (if he re-signbs with them) at shooting guard and work with a frontcourt of Lewis and Vince? And Courtney Lee is a godsend to them at the guard position coz of his athleticism, shooting and active D. The Magic needed a real power forward coz Lewis and Turkuglu just wont cut it. They need another wide body to help Dwight box out and crowd the paint, and hell, someone other than Dwight to pass inside for scoring.

Agree.   Lakers exposed their need for a real PF.   But then again, there aint a lot of teams that plays PFs like Gasol and Odom on their teams.   But I really feel Howard needs help.  They're in a quandary, coz they paid Lewis to play with starter's minutes, and he has the same position as Turkoglu.

Im not too keen with the VC trade either.   Yes, he can be a go to guy down the stretch, but Turkoglu has already done that for them.   I just like Lee much better.   He played like a vet despite his rookie status.  And gives it all all the time, which I cant say with VC.

Insiders say that there are some serious locker room issues with Rajon Rondo.   Thats why they are shopping for at least fair value in return.   Celtics believe that the core of Garnett and Pierce will be enough, as long as they get fair value in trading Rondo.

But then again, how many times will you get a young PG who almost averaged a triple double in this  year's play-offs?

I think Ray Allen's contract is about to expire on 2010...that is probably why Boston is making him available...Rondo, I don't believe, one bit, that he is being shopped around...

Shaq to Cavs -- hmmm ... Lebron & Shaq.  Parang naririnig ko na ang mga usap usapan in the future especially if the Cavs do win their first ever ring - "Lebron, why you can't win a championship without Shaq?"

Banner17, which owns the Boston Celtics franchise, is all about bringing back the Red Auerbach style of management.  If you remember, Dennis Johnson, Robert Parrish, KEvin Mchale, even Danny Ainge were traded.  This is their way of building.  They might be looking at draft choices in the future down the road.  I remember Larry Bird being drafted one year before his eligibility.  They had to wait for a year befrore seeing Larry in uniform, that's how bad they wanted him.  I also remember them using a lot of resources in trades and draft choices to bag Len Bias, only to see him die of drug overdose while celebrating being drafted by the Celtics.  Those were lean years, they had to persuade Larry Bird to postpone retiring as they pinned their hopes on Bias.

Shaq to Cavs is a brilliant move.  There are a lot of teams building warchest to be able to acquire Lebron, with the management buildup of Cavs, it would be easier for them to retain Lebron.

^ Would have been nice for LA to retain him, but he deserves better pay.  Hope he goes to an Eastern conference team.

I think LA is making the right choice though - Odom over Ariza.  Odom's skill set is special (if he stays healthy).  And he's relatively young.  Ariza is a great athlete and defender, but not irreplaceable.

He might end up being another overpaid player simply because he came from a championship team. Like Posey. Not Ariza's fault--or Posey's. Just the way it goes. Good news for them.

Really close to a deal...

Lakers close to deal with Artest:
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-lakers3-2009jul03,0,7602019.story

Artest says he's signing with Lakers:
http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/11838893/15861966

If the deal pushes through, Lakers will go from something soft.......to something crazy.

Would have love Ariza, coz he is 24, and could have been part of the future post-Kobe, but Artest gives something more in the present. For better or worse, it would be interesting.

Kobe and Artest in one team? That would be something to see.

wow...Artest playing for the Lakers? Thats like a ticking time bomb waiting to explode at any night. If they get him as a replacement for Ariza then the more that they will need coach PJ to control Artest just like what he did before with Rodman.

Ticking Bomb and Hollywood....made for each other  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Its all over sports sites, 3 years for $18M, with Mid-Level Exception.   Same thing that was offered Ariza.  Essentially, Artest took a paycut to go LA.

Strange that both sides wouldn't want to try to keep a championship team intact. But, money talks.

Kaya ni Phil Jackson si Artest.  I think Rodman was loonier, but he still contributed to championship rings for the Bulls.  Artest will definitely be a big help defensively (esp. in the playoffs), and can score when needed.  Not as scrappy, young and quick/athletic as Ariza, pero pwede na yan kung mawawala din lang si Ariza.  Sana matuloy!

As for Ariza, I hope he goes to a team whose system will make him as effective as he was in LA.

Ariza commits to Houston, with essentially the same Laker offer (per year).    Ariza and his agent bluffed, Lakers called it, and they got Artest instead.

Kung lilipat na lang sana, dun sa nag overpay na e.g.  Posey going to New Orleans.
