Speakers' Age
« on: Jun 30, 2009 at 12:49 PM »
Good day Gurus...

Just an inquiry,
does age matters when it comes to speakers?
Nagbabago ba ang tunog nya when it ages, and is it safe to buy an "old" set of speakers
let's say 5 years or 10 years old na ito...?
Hindi pa ba prone sa sayad or humihiwalay ang pagkakadikit ng mga materials nya as it ages..?

Kind regards,
ABC

if its just drivers,  yung surround ang nadudurog if its foam, though this is easily replaced as long as standard ang size... medjo mahirap maghanap ng  weird size ng surrounds.. like 7 and 9, 11, 13 inches.

if its a box speaker with capacitors, then the capacitors may need replacing.

It also depends on  loudspeakers itself, my  KEF105.2 speakers were made in  1970 and the only parts that needing repairing was a loose surround.

Some speakers (tweeters) are ferrofluid cooled,  these have a tendency to dry up and render the tweeters useless.

I used my KEF for about ten years, though I cant say na nagbago ang tunog niya.. if ever it did, it did not bother me or di ko napansin.

my wharfedales are about 10 years old na rin. di ko lang alam kung buo pa ang drivers kasi di ko pa nabubuksan ang grilles. but it still sounds great so i assume walang defect.

i once assembled a tower with dual 8" woofers, about 15 years ago na. sold it to a friend who is still enjoying it. the only damage is the rubber surrounds, now developing pinholes.

the oldest speakers i encountered that still looks & sounds good are my friend's sansuis, he said it was bought in the 70's. those are about 30 years old and still kicking!
