The USB connector did not have a problem powering and recognizing my 0.5TB portable HDD. Subukan ko sa 2TB drive this week.

Have you tested this with your 2TB drive? How was it? Does it play mkv files?

Price: DV-220 (Cheaper)
Size/Weight: DV-220 (Small; can be placed under the bezel of an LCD/Plasma TV)
Looks: DV-420 (Subjective... but I prefer the all-black front panel)
Features: DV-420 (WMV capable)

I just got a 420 yesterday.  P4,990 na lang.

Finally, my first black Pio DVD player.

Has anybody tried Hakan's firmware?

me! im using the latest one! masasabi ko merong ngang improvement sa quality. isa pang maganda yung subtitles nababasa na din niya given na same filename ng avi na ipplay mo.

Thanks!

Same requirement, dapat same filenames ang avi and srt.

Just bought the pioneer dv 120k. This one will be used for Jack sparrow DVDs. Haha

I got this as well :)

Confirmed to be region-free, like my previous Pioneer. And I like the all black finish. Will go well with my projected new receiver (which is also black) and the PS3.

Also works with the Harmony remotes.

sa online reviews mukang region free ang mga pioneer dvd players. although it says a certain region sa likod. (my dv120 is region 3). haven't tried it for myself though. and from what i read japanese dvds lang ang di niya kaya ma play. hence the indication on the box that says not fpr use in japan

The box and the unit have "Region 3" markings because they're complying with DVD licensing requirements.  However, since region-locking would adversely affect sales figures, most manufacturers unlock the region coding on the unit itself, which is a violation of licensing requirements.

That's been going on for a long time in Asian regions.  The DVD Forum doesn't mind anymore, as long as royalties are paid.

I don't think the "Not for use in Japan" label means it won't play Japanese DVDs.  Because if it can't play Japanese DVDs, then it won't play Japanese DVDs whether you're in Japan or outside of Japan.

The purpose is probably for Japanese taxation.  The unit is intended for export only.  But it can be sold in Japan to foreign tourists, provided that the buyer will only use it outside Japan.

================================

To those interested in this model, I recommend that you buy it now, before stocks run out.

Pioneer and Sharp signed a joint verture agreement in 2009.  The current line of DVD players might be the last Pioneer-made ones.  The next line might be Sharp-made DVD players rebadged as Pioneer.

That's what happened to Pioneer BD players.  Ever wonder why former king of optical disc players makes bad BD players?  Pio BD players are rebadged Sharp units.

I just bought a few BD rips last night, just to see if there's been any improvement in quality.

Sound and picture are generally good, but motion is still defective.  The cadence is still "off".

Most people are blown away by the "quality" because they can't see the cadence errors.

But there's a big improvement in packaging quality, that's for sure :D.

Mga comrades, pansin ko lang, parang mas fuller ang sound coming out of the pioneer 420 kapag digital coax out ang gamit compared to HMDI audio out? anyone care to comment?

Just bought it last week, I can say that I'm overall satisfied with the pq & sq. Di ko lng nagustuhan is ung transport tray, di maganda ang built at mukhang madaling masira unlike ung old pioneer dvdp ko.
