Acer Aspire X1200 with HDMI

Picked one up the other day for PHP18.5K including 3 GB RAM. Overall I'm pretty happy with the X1200 considering the diminutive form factor and surprisingly speedy performance.

Differences from the X3200 include:
  • AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core Processor 5600+ 940 2.9GHz, 1024KB*2
  • Lower spec embedded high-definition audio with just 5.1-channel audio support
  • 5 audio ports
  • eSATA
  • Footprint: 10.4" (265mm) W x 12.4" (315mm) D x 3.9" (100mm) H
  • 9 USB ports

Otherwise, both models are similarly configured. I would have preferred a larger 320GB drive and an upgrade from the NVIDIA GeForce 8200 on board graphics, but otherwise, there's really nothing to complain about.

anyone tried putting a low profile nvidia 9500gt? or a ati 4550 here? or even a 9600gt?
saw these cards sa tpc so kayo na lang hanap ng low profile versions jan
9500 and 4550 are in the same price range about 3-4k and the low profile 9600gt is at least 7k
the psu seems reliable enough for these cards (except sa 9600 mejo alanganin)
x3200 kasi saken and i guess same lang ng psu rate jan sa x1200 nyo.
kainggit yung procie nyo mas malakas hehehe

Aha... after examining the X1200 more closely, I found a possible dealbreaker for those of you who want to use the X1200 exclusively as part of your HT setup: no SPDIF output. You're stuck with HDMI.

The socket is there, which is why I didn't notice, but it's blocked. When you try to push in a cable, the cover doesn't swing out of the way. Only option is to purchase a separate card like the Sound Blaster Audigy.

Our X3200 has an optical SPDIF out.

The problem with this is that I have not seen any low profile sound card that can fit the Acer case, plus you'll probably have to take out the modem from the only PCI. :P

Yup, HT users who have older receivers that don't have HDMI ports should steer clear of this model unless Acer offers an upgrade with the SPDIF port activated.

Or you can always upgrade your receiver. ;)

In my case, the X1200 is really more of a desktop replacement. I plan to hook it up to the 22" LA450 via HDMI and use it to watch cable TV as well.
