this player won't be able to play mkv files either on disc or via usb, it can only play divx (.avi) files via disc and usb. imho, there is still no dvd upscaler / player that can play .mkv files. the only player that is touted to do such is oppo's bluray player, and there are still no feedback if it can do this better than the media players / nmts. 

is it better than pioneer 610? i cant say since i have not audition this player yet.

I have purchased this product and would know how do i play movies on this product via the usb.

I have tried various different movie formats and extension to play, but somehow the player keeps giving an error, format not supported.

IS there some kind of software that i need to download and convert the videos for the dvd player to support it to play?

would appreciate a feedback if someone has ever come across this device? its a hot selling product i know..
