Nothing will come of this. Rules will be implemented, standards made. But Willie is still Willie. That guy will never change and it will be another few more months of laying low until another incident occurs.

I say blame the networks, particularly ABS-CBN. CMIIW, but there were a lot of independently produced shows back then. The networks just provided airtime. ABS stated producing their own shows but they couldn't get Eat Bulaga and it sort of started from there - really huge prizes for the masses.

I remember watching Kwarta o Kahon where the contestants were there for fun. Kahit 3 itlog na pula laman ng kahon, masayang umuuwi. Sa Pera o Bayong, 100k na napalunan, di pa rin masaya kasi nanghihinayang dun sa laman ng bayong na 1M.

No. But to say the other way around will bring the same question. Sariling assessment ko lang to. Maybe you would also say mas maraming naiinis kay willy. If that would be your own assessment. Baka tama din yun.

kung natupad lang sana ang pangako lalo na ng PCSO na magbibigay ng 1 Million for operation sa Taiwan sana lumalaban pa rin sya hanggang ngayon, kaya lang hindi na nya kinaya kahapon.. what frustrating is nangako ang PCSO na nakapag raise kami ng 1M ay magbbgay sila ng 1M para masimulan na operation. when we reach 1M from donation boxes and other donors here and abroad bigla hindi daw pwede bigay yung 1M kapag hindi dito sa phil gagawin operation which is 1 time pa lang gnawa at ang chance ng survival rate ay napakababa at mas mahal pa aabutin kesa pag sa taiwan gagawin ang operation at mataas ang survival rate... kung natupad lang sana yung pledge nila ay sana ay buhay pa ang pamangkin ko... ginawa namin lahat para maka raise ng fund ASAP dahil hindi na pwede patagalin yung case, unfortunately they did not stick to their words... after the funeral were planning to share the donations to other BA Babies...

Tama ka. Because there are more desperate people in this country than there are well-to-do. And it doesn't matter sometimes what station you are in life, people are blinded by money and don't care if the person is a douchebag. Walang kinalaman ang kabaliwan dito. May mga middle-class akong kakilala, akala mo kung sino sila kung i-defend nila si kups.

At pwede ba, hindi na kailangan pang dudahan ang mga sinasabi ng detractors nya. Kitang kita naman sa telebisyon at youtube ang mga pinaggagawa ni kups. Wala akong choice kundi panoorin si mokong ng ilang buwan papauwi sa bus. Masaya nung una pero balik sa dating gawi pagkatapos ng ilang linggo.

Tulad ng sabi ko sa ibang post ko dito. Bale wala ang diskusyon natin kasi yung mga nanonood kay kups hindi dumadayo dito. Ano, magsasagutan tayo na huwag manood? Eh hindi na nga tayo nanonood eh!

I agree! if you look at the pre-MTB shows dati ng ABSCBN (Sang Linggo NAPO Sila or Eat Bulaga), mababaw lang ang kaligayahan ng mga Pilipino noon. Bulagaan lang, pwede na. Kahit naman ung SST at Lunch Date. Pati ung CHIBUGAN NA sa channel 9, mamimigay lang ng Elizabeth Panty si arnel ignacio at hajji alejandro, ayos na ang audience tulad nila lola madonna!

Ngayon, dapat talaga pera pera ang labanan eh. Nagmukhang pera ang mga Pinoy audiences nung lumitaw na si Willie sa pera o bayong at dinaan na lang sa pera pera.

This despite the fact that there were no scantily-clad, madly gyrating female dancers onstage, no contestants were being humiliated and poked fun at, and the stage - an elevated, barely-there platform in the middle of the SM City North EDSA Food Court, pre-The Block - was about as simple as it could get.

And yes, the contestants were completely happy just winning a gift pack or two at the end of each game. Every once in a while, Pepe Pimentel would even croon an old standard (none of this retarded Lito Camo novelty crap) and the audience would listen and afterwards applaud appreciatively. And of course, he would always be impeccably dressed and coiffed with his trademark pompadour

Blame it on the weather, values, and the coconut tree. If you look at countries with winter season, they are the ones who knows the value of thrift and hard work.Those who work hard and provide food for the winter survives. All the tamad dies either due to hunger or the cold. In Pinas, konting kayod lang ayos na. you can live for another day. That is for the weather. As for values, we always equate a lot of money as a measure of success. If you are happy of what you do but do not have lots of money,you are not successful. As I always tell to my kids, money cannot buy you happiness. But lack of money does not give you happiness either. And Money is not everything. But money is something.

As for the coconut tree, those familiar with coconut plantations know that you only have to work around 2 weeks every three months. Kaya filipinos cannot sustain hard work. Up to two weeks lang. and after that relax and wait for the next harvest season. Kaya marami gusto mag drive ng tricycle, padyak, etc.. Kasi nga kayod during peak time, then relax till the next peak time.

These values and attitudes are carried over time and we have the typical filipino. Ayaw masikatan ng araw, Di bale na daw tamad, hindi naman pagod, eto ang nakasulat sa mudguard ng isang jeepney.

What about countries like Brazil and Mexico? These countries don't have winter and yet they are among the top economies in the world.

Also, coconut plantations did not exist up until the late 19th century, when large-scale copra production was discovered. Did our civilization's indolence already exist prior to copra production?

You may have your points but the hastiness of the generalization doesn't make any sense. 

The typical Filipino is, statistically speaking,:

• not poor (around 67% are above the poverty line)
• is employed or runs a business (unemployment rate is around 7%)
• is educated (we have one of the highest literacy rates in the developing world

And it probably would still be the case, had ABS-CBN, in particular, hadn't started acculturing their audience to playing for ridiculous amounts of cash prizes, as tenderfender pointed out earlier. Eventually, even Eat Bulaga - which, up until then, had pretty much subsisted on laughs, musical guests and parlor games to delight their viewership - eventually succumbed to the same mentality, and started lavishing their contestants with blinding wads of cash as well.  

To be fair though, this didn't exactly start during Willie's time; Amy Perez and Roderick Paulate were still the hosts of ABS CBN's noontime show at the time. Which, again, reinforces my belief that, as creators of the monster that is Willie Revillame, ABS CBN is just as culpable for the current hoopla over the Willing Willie incident.

Its all money. They could not put a boring host without charisma on the show because nobody will watch it. Advertisers of course go to shows that have bigger audience followers. Whether we like it or not, Willy  was able to capture a big bulk of followers not only because of the prizes on the show but also his style which some find it outrageously bad.

I don't think he will give money coming from his own pocket...sa bahay nya walang sponsor, sa studio meron. All his wealth came from the sponsors and not through his hard work. Nang dadaya na nga eh...para maloko yung contestant, tumulong pa sa mahirap na ang pera galing sa sponsor naman.
