Guys I am pretty sure all the stability issues with this product and the HD Pro will be solved in future updates. Ganun din ang egreat models when they first came out. So just be patient

If you already have en egreat NMT, the newer realtek chip might not be a major upgrade. If you have the lower-end models like the WD TV, then this is an upgrade. As others have pointed out, the realtek-based ones can't play HD audio yet. All the egreats can. So consider the positives and negatives.

And balance on what's your intended use for it. Don't linger too much on so many features that in the end you have no actual use because you don't have the resources.

Like the hype about TrueHD, it will only be useful for purists or audiophiles who have the right equipments not to mention the right room setup. Plus, it will waste your HardDrive space but not harnessing its maximum potential.

i don't think clamor for HD audio codec capability is a hype. i think this capability is considered in selecting the right product kasi magiging laganap din HD audio codec in the future, kumbaga possibility of upgrading in the future e mahaba. but i agree with you, if your not an "audio master", you will not notice the difference of HD audio codec. I compared DTS-HD MA 5.1 against DTS 5.1, can't hear the difference, parehong maganda ang tunog

this needs to be confirmed. egreat R1's using realtek, but according to its specs it can handle DTS-HD MA, DD-TruHD

When I was at ehome, Richie and I tried to play Dolby TrueHD, narecognize at first yung audio file but no sound, then biglang "Unrecognized Audio format". They didn't have any DolbyTrueHD receiver in their showroom though, but the R1 doesn't recognize it as of now. As I mentioned previously, I am pretty sure future firmware updates will address these issues.

ditoy thanks... I think i just have to wait for the next model. I prefer this unit over the HD-pro because of its reported better support for the ext/3 system. And one more thing, i seem to be more comfortable with this unit because it is made in Taiwan and supported by US based dealers. In fact the cinematube has a dedicated thread in one of the popular US based-AV forum. Were it not also for the HDMI handshake problem, go na sana ako. I think even the HD-pro has the reported handshake problem din.

regarding the HDMI handshake problem..I think that this is evident with all the realtek chipsets NMT out there..this is apparent for HDPro, Cinematube, Xtreamer etc..

maybe soon everything will be fixed..and by that time many NMTs will be introduced here..good thing for us consumers

Dati ganyan din ako mag-isip, all about future upgrade, pero in reality, by the time you are ready to upgrade there will be new technology coming out and what you thought is OK to upgrade will be impractical because the newer technology is usually cheaper and cost effective. Plus the fact that it has newer feature set. So you end up selling/disposing it.

But, just like I said, if you have the resources ready, then by all means.

by this time I have my NMT and it serves its purpose..if I were to buy another NMT it must have a newer tech to offer..

its hard earned money anyway..why spend something if it just the same as your old NMT..when the chipsets mature enough then its time to take the plunge

All these realtek NMTs are affordable and mas mura sa egreat, popcorn and HDX. And talong-talo yung WD TV so if I am looking for a media player, any of these new realtek players are good! Itong Cinematube currently ang cheapest so good buy nga ito.

Yes sir, i got your point. If you have existing NMT and it is still serving your purpose then it might not be a good idea to buy now. But if you still dont have any, and you wait and wait until you find the perfect NMT(which will probably not come out) then you will be in a limbo.

Yeah, at that price point its a sure winner for most of the commoners like me. Who only want to play/watch most if not all the video and music files that I generally have access to.

In fact, before this, I was looking at egreat as my first NMT but found out that it is having problems playing 1080p content and does not have DTS downmix support(although it came out later) which many if not most of the HD mkvs have. So it will not serve its real purpose for me, so I also waited just for a few weeks until I found out about this new realtek chipset which appears promising.

And the best thing about this is, those media players that are currently in the market and have too high price point in my opinion, will now think twice and might lower its price and make us (again, the consumers) the REAL WINNERS!

Sorry medyo delayed ang reply, been quite busy since Monday. Anyways here are the updates on the CinemaTube/ Realtek 1073 chip.

•   We’ve tested the Cinematube on a MAC formatted Hard drive (HFS) and its working well
•   Have tested External Dvd Rom to play dvd movies and it worked well
•   Have tested ISO (dvd) file and its playing well (the menus are displayed)
•   Have tested the reliability of making a playlist, working well, no issue on that
•   Cinematube is now compatible with Windows 7

Now for the 2 issues

•   Can this player bitstream HD audio Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA via HDMI so that my AVR can decode it?

--> Dolby TrueHD, Yes! if you set the audio output to “raw” then CinemaTube bitstreams Dolby TrueHD to AVR.

--->DTS-MA (7.1 CH), Partially! if you set the audio output to “raw” then CinemaTube bitstreams DTS (6.1 CH) to AVR. So here's the tricky part: even if you set the output to “raw”, CinemaTube downmixs 7.1 to 6.1 to AVR.

( these are the ones tested by our US counterpart, but we will still test it here to confirm)

•   With regards to the “Handshake” problem of the HDMI

We have tested this a few times. Now, there is no issue with regards to the audio and video being in sync. Lagi naman siya sabay. The problem that we encountered is “sometimes” when you forward/rewind the media and resume it, the audio will disappear. To fix the audio you need to do some silly thing like change the setup of the audio and then change it back to the original (courtesy of sir Streetsmart). Now this seems to be a problem with all Realtek 1073 chipsets, we have contacted the manufacturer and they will update us on when they can release a firmware on this one. Will keep you posted on this people.

yes sir keymaker, it works with USB powered HDD. If you have a WD MyBook and you have it connected to the Cinematube then it will shutdown too once you turn off the unit.
