HQV Benchmark 2.0 Analysis – ATi, nVidia and Intel (my apologies if this has been posted already)

http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/zardon/hqv-benchmark-2-0-analysis-ati-nvidia-and-intel/

Quote
Intel: Even though the original programme for discrete Larrabee was cancelled, it’s obvious that Intel’s engineers have already learned a lot about high quality video processing and each generation is definitely getting better. Comparing an integrated graphics processor against a state-of-the-art GPU from someone like ATI is never going to look good for Intel. Dedicated hardware solutions are always going to rock. But you must to take your hat off to Intel when you consider that its latest chips score more than 125% higher than its previous generation. Intel may not be a leader right now, but it is very definitely moving in the right direction – and it’s doing so faster than anyone else.
nVidia: Again, progress has been made. The jump from nVidia’s G210/220 scores to the present generation of Fermi processor is substantial. Also, once nVidia’s engineers have had a chance to look through KitGuru’s test results, it will be straightforward for them to target issues the issueswe’ve flagged  and eliminate them.  It’s unlikely that the lower scores are anything to do with hardware, so we’d expect the scores to pick up within a few driver iterations. Likewise on the functionality side of things, we expect to see some of ATI’s new functions mirrored in the nVidia driver panels soon enough, for example mosquito noise reduction and deblocking.
ATI: It seems that ATI’s background with the production of processing chips for digital TVs still gives it some kind of advantage. Even budget cards like the passively cooled Sapphire HD 5550 generate similar video quality when compared with nVidia’s flagship GTX480. Obviously a lot of this is down to driver development and advancements. For now, KitGuru can state clearly that ATI’s Radeon HD 5000 series cards offer the best HD video reproduction quality available in the market.
Our findings have also shown that Catalyst 10.6 is without a doubt the best ATI driver yet, specifically in regards to the quality of video rendering. The new features incorporated into Catalyst 10.6, such as Mosquito Noise Reduction and DeBlocking, really to help to enhance picture quality output, with our reference monitor it was easy to ascertain quality differences. Just as we’re sure that ATI’s discrete solutions are leading the HD video quality pack right now, we’re also positive that nVidia will be working hard to catch up with subsequent driver releases over the coming months.

guys, just some question regarding 2 mkv files that i have - Avatar and Clash of the Titans ... both are 1080p, and HD audio, both are 13GB+ size files

i'm able to play both movies on my TVIX and Xtreamer, but I cannot make the files play correctly on my PC - parang naka-fast forward palagi ...any ideas on what to adjust?

What's your player?I think we do have same size of mkv. What i use is Kmplayer 1435 version with special sauce. No problem. Smoooth na smooth ang play. For me the best pa rin ang KMplayer. HTH.

wala talagang lumalabas na subtitle, reverted back to older version ok naman.  weird nga eh kasi i tried googling it, wala naman lumabas na result na kapareho ko yung symtoms.  more on "how to show/hide subtitle" lang lumalabas na result  :-\

 Thanks in advance po

Mga kapatid sa KMP.  ;)

In case you have any problems with the playback of some of the "new" releases, whether no audio, no video, or no nothing at all, try to set your Matroska Splitter to GABEST within the Preferences, or use HALLI Splitter instead na yung KMP's internal splitter.

These types of issues are connected sa "header removal compression" na sakit ng ulo ng marami these days.

Yun lang po.

Sir, ito ba yung sa Filter Control - Splitter - General Tab - Matroska? Anong ginagawa nito? Set to default kasi yung sa'kin so far wala namang problema.

Thanks.

just a quickie, i don't know if it was discussed before, but is there a sound card/mother board/software that can handle crossover functions to the outputs? example: line1/2 low, line 3/4 mid, line 5/6 high.

thanks!

guys need your opinions sana..

i have an htpc with onboard videocard connected to a fullhd lcdtv. running resolution is 1920x1080 which i think is fullhd already.

if i upgrade to a midlevel discreet videocard like a 5450 or gt220, will i see improvement on movie quality?

any other suggestions on a good htpc videocard?

thanks in advance.

for me, yes. the performance of a discrete graphics card allows you to use some driver options/enhancements and shaders that may improve quality.

dati, on-board ATI 4200 ang gamit ko. i recently upgraded to a 5570.  ;D

Kapag sinisinok na ang A200 or Mede8er sa full BD rips na grabe ang taas ng bitrate, I switch to TMT3 - hindi lang smooth full BD playback because it takes advantage of hardware acceleration, complete pa with menus, special & bonus features of the BD.

Yes, actually the processor will have the most responsibilities in handling 1080p videos. Even the basic graphics chipset such as gma 4500, ati 3200, or lower specs with mid-level dual core processor can playback 1080p smoothly.

Install mo nalang ang AC3Filter para mas madali.   Set mo lang as "passthrough", or "raw" or "as is" (or some words or phrases that imply the same) under DTS.
