2.1 Computer speakers
« on: Jul 19, 2010 at 10:26 PM »
Hi guys, can someone recommend me a good 2.1 computer speaker system? I tried testing the usual altec lansing / Logitech / etc which are sold at computer shops but none of them satisfied me.

I'm looking into the B&W MM-1 but I kinda want a system with a subwoofer. Focal XS looks nice too but I haven't had a chance to demo it yet. I'm also shying away from it as I want a speaker system that has a volume controller that would control the volume, etc. (much like those found in logitech high end series).

Thanks.

Focal XS sounds good for a 2.1 system. It works as an ipod dock and has a built-in USB DAC (so that you can connect it to a computer digitally, bypassing the PC's noisy sound board).

Contact AVDI and give them a listen. :)

Problem with Focal is that it doesn't have a good volume controller (with a dial). It makes life much easier for me if I can turn up/down the volume of my speakers in an instant.

The sound quality is worth it imho. They almost rival an entry level hifi system in sound.

You can get a Griffin Powermate as a rotary volume control.  ;D

you can also consider using a t-amp + bookshelf combo. can beat most 2.1 systems in sound quality imho. the amp can be placed within reach for easy volume adjustment.

You might like to try something like this........ it definitely sounds better than typical 2.1 computer speakers, the big volume control sits very conveniently in the middle at easy reach and due to the speaker's 7" driver - stops me from yearning for a sub ;D

Saw someone in PC-Experts (pc-experts.org) who's using a pair of Dynaudio Bookshelves (the amp/reciever wasnt pictured) and it was lovely paired with the Dell 22" LCD, Logitech wireless keyboard and a big desk

unfortunately the picture got lost when the website was revamped.

You can try our ERA design 3 speakers.  They are 3" and fits perfectly with a small system.
