Preliminary Listening impressions with the Marantz CD6002:

I finally tried out the Marantz cdp in my audio setup and it is amazing!  Its a tad warmer sounding than my Rotel 1072 but the resolution is present, nonetheless. The Rotel is forward sounding, while the Marantz is a bit behind. Micro & macro details are present as well as dynamics, but I sense it is a bit more on the Rotel 1072.

The CD text of the Marantz is a delight to see as it scrolls from right to left - it does this to every new track.
One of the many great features that the Marantz has is its headphone jack - it is a high grade headphone circuit with a high-speed buffer amplifier. I've read a lot of head-hifi forums having Marantz cdps for this purpose alone. Unfortunately, when I grabbed my Grado SR80 cans - naka mini-jack sya & I cant find the adaptor anywhere - bwiset  Oh well, will buy one later nalang.
Meron din syang pitch control - but I havent tried it as I was gauging its SQ.

INMO, I dont think it was fair to judge the Marantz CD6002 with a Rotel flagship 1072 cdp at 3x its price and while there were times that I was hard pressed to find any difference - some audiophile cds proved the Rotel 1072 to be just a tad better.

However, if one is to look for a bnew CDP at 15-20k - I really dont think you can find a better one than the Marantz CD6002. The pitch control, CD text and high grade headphone circuit is hard enough to find in any cdp - much less in one cdp alone.  No worries - it reads CD-R/CD-RW; MP3 or WMA.

Will still try the headphones later and change parameters - as my Rotel 1072 does have added acoustic damper-shackels below it.
Nonetheless, the Marantz made me tap my feet & snap my fingers to its beat that made me forget I wasnt listening to my 1072 - so this is definitely a good investment and a great value specially at its price

1) replacing its fuse with an audio-grade?
2) putting orig dynamat dampers atop the transport?
3) upgrading the lampcord power plug into an audio-grade?
if not then u might also consider trying and then let us know how it would compare to the flagship RCD1072 from rotel

Interesting ideas sir allan - i might give some of those serious consideration
I did consider changing opamps awhile back......only to find out that the 6002 doesnt use opamps but rather HDAMs

While I do have an audio-grade rack, I also added dampening shackles specifically for my spyder rack and it did prove to be an improvement.
Im really enjoying the 6002 and listening to it more than my Rotel 1072 in the bedroom

Huwaw! Ang mura nyan! So the 5003 is less than Php9k and the 6002 is about Php12k nalang. Last July when I was in Sing, I got the 6002 for S$420 - its good to know that it is now more affordable

Abundant nga Last time I was there, meron din sila 6002 in black color - but it was S$30 more.

nice mod but quite pricey, im sure sir alexg kayang-kaya yan!

of all the cd mods, i prefer the opamp tweak coz its quite simple and easy.

I will check the prices. Your best bet is to come out with a list of those who will be interested with the group buy para ma-compute ko rin ang box size for shipping.

decided to buy another brand of cdp kasi hindi tayu nakabuo ng group buy as a gift sa folks ko pero will be included in the audio setup sa house namin.

yes but older. first number indicates spot in model range higher the better; last number indicates series, higher means newer. lots of reviews said its strongest point is its aesthetic match to current Marantz amps. sound is, generally, uninspired and you could do better in this price range.

I have mine model 5003, ang macho na dating at ganda ng tunog! Dubai price is 850 dirhams x 13.__ = P11,050

what CDP did you end up buying?

i got the review mixed up, its the PM5003 amp that supposedly has aesthetics as its strongest point. cool for Marantz to have HDAMs in its entry-level player now.
