J,

Quick question, is there a reasonable USB type PVR / Cable Tuner that anyone has much success with ?

I've seen LEADTEK branded ones but not sure if they're okay...

-jackryan

Leadtek is good, but they rely on their own software.  I havent seen one which works with other software like MCE.  The only leadtek product that is compatible with MCE is the PVR2000 or for digital broadcast the Leadtek USB DTV dongle.

There a product by adaptec, thats MCE compatible, comes with an MCE remote too.  Its a USB dual input tuner.
http://www.everythingusb.com/adaptec_dual_tv_tuner_for_windows_xp_mce_2005.html
Can't say its available here though

Nice pics...

what is the brand of your LCD monitor ? How much did you get it for ?

Also, for the TV tuner what is the brand and model ? At what price did you get it and where ?

Lastly, do you have pics of your set-up with cable tuner enabled... just wanted to see if (hope you don't mind) how the tuner fares with local cable providers...

Using a sony HDMI DVD payer vs. VGA cable from my ordinary PC (no special video cards -FX5200) on my 32" Hitachi LCD TV, I noticed that the VGA looked better. You can watch closer and the pixelations are less obvious

Actually di masyadong malayo yung difference, but since you are using DVI, your pc will use the most compatible and correct video frequency, so you get a good picture.  With VGA you just have to do it manually.

Built my bro a desktop pc using the slowest pentium d, ecs board's onboard video (Shared 64 MB, Intel), PQI 256 mb Ram DDR2 and I was surprised that it played Quicktime 1080p teaser trailer of Curse of the Golden Flower effortlessly!

No Avivo, No Pure video!

Hi Jpadua. I have downloaded Zoomplayer and I find it really superior to PowerDVD. My problem is I downloaded the freeware and I can't seem to make it run without being connected to the internet. What could I be doing wrong. Thanks in advance for any input.

Guys,

I am planning to go HTPC. Since I am just starting, what is the easy and cheap way to connect computer video output to my composite (RCA) input of my TV?

Thanks.

afaik, a video card with rca output. i think most cards, especially high-performance units, have them nowadays.

Wala ng gumagamit ng RCA. Old cards uses S-Video the least. Presently DVI na and HDMI in the near future. There some TVs (Japan surplus) with VGA connection.

Wala ng RCA but if you insist use break-out box or Vcards na sobrang obsolete na.

Yep, what I got was a motherboard with TV-OUT.  DFI has one (socket 939) +  AMD 3700+ CPU in a Focus Nemesis casing.   Two channel output only via AV-710 soundcard.

Since I am a two channel only diehard, what software will you recommend to extract the DVD audio into wav file--similar to the quality of EAC extraction of CD-audio?

Thank you.

Louie

Just upgraded my HTPC with this case:

http://www.lian-li.com/Product/Chassis/Desktop/D_PC-880.htm

I use to have the classic PC60 Lian Li case (upright tower).

I will post pix soon.

My setup consists of:

MSI P4N SLI motherboard
3 GHz Pentium IV
1GB RAM
2 pcs 180 GB Seagate SATA
MSI NX6600GT graphics card (single card only, soon will be using 2 cards for SLI)
Sony DVD burner
Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard
Dlink USB wireless lan
Toslink cable going to the AVR

For monitor, I use a 32" Samsung LCD and Infocus projector using the VGA port.

For AVR am currently using a Denon 1804 driving Acoustic Research S40 fronts and center, and Wharfedale surrounds.

Software: Zoom Player with all the filters and tweaks, Xlobby for Music.
I went fishing the other day, and I caught a BIG ONE!

I ordered it from Computer Farm (Alabang Filinvest). Cost is 7.5K, am sure you might find a better deal than that. If Alabang is too far, I believe you can order it from villman. (www.villman.com.ph). HTH
