My HTPC components, for my secondary setup (bedroom):

E6300 Core 2 Duo
original ATI Radeon X700 256MB  (I prefer nVidia, but I got this for free)
512 MB DDR2
Asus P5VD2-MX  (Micro ATX Casing)
Asus DVD rom drive
2pcs 80GB IDE HDD
1pcs 250GB SATA HDD
Enermax 450W power supply

I use to fool around with powerstrip, zoomplayer, etc... but was too
much of hassle with my Asus L5800 2.7GHz, 512MB laptop.

Now I go for keeping it simple:  I just use PowerDVD and output via dual-display mode VGA to a 40" LCD Samsung (LA40R71B) TV at 1024x768p or sometimes 1360x768p @ 60Hz.  For audio, I use a plain stereo connection from the PC audio out to the TV audio in.
I retain a DVI connection to a 17" AOC LCD screen.

Hi

Need help.

I have an NVIDIA GFORCE 7600GS connect to a Samsung LCD TV via VGA.  My problem is the picture does not fit the screen (res 1260x768).  There is a thin (about 1cm or less) black line on the left and the right side is a bit cropped.  Parang naka usog sa right yung picture.

I tried to adjust it and move the screen a little to the left but there appears some glare on the left side as thin as the black line before.

What do you think is the best solution to this.

TIA

Try this:  While on "PC mode" on the TV, -and- your PC is displaying something,
check menu options on the TV and see if there is a picture adjustment sub-option (my samsung R71 has this)
Go for the adjustment, reset, recalibration, I forget the exact opition name...but its an "auto" adjust feature on
an R71.

You can also try changing PC resolutions to:  1024x768 or 1360x768 at 60Hz.  See the difference it makes.

It is like this everytime I use the computer and not just when watching DVDs.

@ericag_ph
Thanks.  I'll try this asap.

native resolution ba ng samsung mo is 1280x768? have you tried other resolutions? how about refresh rate?

Try 1280x720@60 (720p) I'm sure your samsung is 720p compatible.  Check your samsung manual and try to find what its native resolution is.

I can barely understand what you wrote...  ;D

However..this might help:

1.  Check your LCD TV manual.  (Maybe) It might say:  PC DVI to LCD TV HDMI isn't supported.  So if the manual is true, a DVI to HDMI cable won't help.  Even if you get it to work, in the long term it might cause a problem to the LCD TV (I wouldn't bother taking a chance).  They wouldn't write that in the manual for no reason at all.

2.  What works for me is this:  My dual monitor setup is PC DVI to PC LCD monitor DVI  -plus- PC VGA (1360x768@60Hz) display 2 to LCD TV VGA.  Not 1366x768.

How can I make my display widescreen in my PJ?  I have an Epson multimedia projector with a native 4:3 ratio (800x600 resolution) and can be converted to 16:9.  When I use my DVD player, I can change from 4:3 to 16:9 but when I use my PC, it only displays 4:3 even if I push the resize button on the remote, it stays 4:3.  The reason I am asking this is that I want to change my screen from 4:3 to 16:9 widescreen but I will be using my PC for DVD watching.  How can I manipulate this so that I can display the projected image in widescreen mode?  Thanks guys in advance.

Thanks rmpmla for the response.  But in your response the desktop would still be 4:3 and would only be widescreen when playing DVDs.  Would there be a possibility to also show the desktop in widescreen mode such as changing my video card or using a program to display the desktop in widescreen?  In this way even on desktop, it would fill the whole 16:9 screen such as the case as using it in an LCD widescreen monitor.

BTW, my video card is just a 16mb ATI videocard.

if the projector has the option to switch from 4:3 to 16:9, then it is possible. correspondingly, you have to change the display properties on your PC to 1280 X 720 or 1366 X 768.

i've tried it but the displayed image for PC/desktop viewing becomes smaller. imagine the 4:3 desktop image crop to the widescreen DVD playback display.

 :)

I had the same problem.

An hdmi cable that long will cost an arm and a leg...if you can even find one... (I needed about 10meters length) I think it was more than $500 when I was looking 3 years ago.

However, try monoprice.com  ...they have the best deals on cables.
Might even need to use two or three cables.

My solution... I just used a cheap 3.7m hdmi cable  (plus dvi-hdmi adapter)...and moved the source player closer to the LCD projector...and used a looong coax (about 7m...21ft) for audio to connect the source player to the receiver...I use this in my primary setup.

If you are using an LCD TV with the PC, I suggest using a looong VGA cable instead.
They're a lot cheaper (I got mine at monoprice.com)...and you won't really notice the difference between hdmi and vga...specially on small LCD TV's  (40" and less) from the standard viewing distance.  You can also connect 2-3 VGA cables until you get the desired length...not ideal...but it gets the job done... I use this in my 2nd setup (bedroom, HT PC connected to 40" LCD TV)

You could use the looong VGA cable also with your PC and an LCD projector...

I also got a 10-12 meter (can't remember the length) VGA cable from monoprice.com

BTW, if you are using an LCD TV...check the manual if it supports the DVI output from a PC...to the hdmi input of the LCD TV... mine says...it doesn't (Samsung).

To seasoned HTPC gurus, I got the PC specs to play DVD, HD DVD and BD from another forum overseas and would like to know how much it would cost locally to build this.

Case: Origen X15v2
Hard Disk: Seagate SATAII 500GB
External data storage: 6TB+ NAS drives (Bufallo Terastations) expandable
Motherboard: Asus A8N32SLI-Deluxe (Dual Core)
Processor: AMD X2 4200+ 939
Graphics Card: Asus 7900GT
Memory: Kingston HyperX 2GB (2 x 1GB)
Power Supply: Seasonic S-12 600W
BD and DVD Drive: LG H10NB (also tried the Lite-On and works fine)
HD-DVD Drive: Xbox HD-DVD Drive
Keyboard/Mouse: Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 7000
Remote: Microsoft Standard MCE IR Receiver
OS: Microsoft XP MCE 2005
DVD Software: Theatertek (comes with Nvidia Purevideo decoder as standard and works with the MCE remote out of the box)
BD and HD-DVD Software: Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra 7.3 (works with the MCE remote)
DVD interface: My Movies MCE Add-On
HD-DVD Interface: My Movies MCE Add-On (still a pre-release)
Software also neeeded: Slysoft AnyDVD HD

Silencing Modifications: AcoustiPack Deluxe v2 Acoustic Material Kit, 3 x AcoustiFan DustProof Quiet 80mm Fan, Zalman VF900-CU Quiet Copper VGA Cooler, Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler.

Or if you have any alternative, pls adviz.  Would be ripping DVD, HD DVD and BD into the external NAS drives with future expandability.  6 TB is only good for about 150 HD films.   Not for me but for an office colleague looking at high end high definition viewing.  Price is still an object so a reasonable quote is still welcome. TIA.

not sure where you can buy a blu ray drive locally but most of the parts can be found at www.tipidpc.com. It will still be spendy though.

I understand the LG drive indicated is a dual-format drive and quite expensive.  Will check that site for the parts.  Thanks.

But if there's anyone who has built his HTPC locally for high definition, I'd like to hear.  Thanks.   ;D
