hi,
I notice there are so many codec packs available for download and installation. I just want to know
which among the following codecs below or others not mention here, would be best suited for playing mkv
movies.

                XP codec pack
                K-lite codec pack
                codec pack all in 1
                matroska pack
                lazy man's codec pack
                satsuki decoder pack...

I use kmplayer and k-lite. For me kmplayer is better.

Is there anybody who uses this hdd cradle?  Could you please share your feedback.  Thank you.

When the designer of this dock envisioned "external hard drive", he took it too literally.   ;D ;D ;D

Brilliant or risky?

I've been trying to look for one locally. I've seen variants of it under Vantec and Thermaltake brand names. It's a good "pan-tapat" for our hobby that eats gigabytes like breakfast cereals. I have this feeling that it will come out with a CDRKing brand name as it is manufactured by oem chinese companies.

It's heavier than it's physical impression kaya stable yung docking, but yeah, it screaming "STATIC ELECTRICITY EXPOSURE ALERT."   ;D

Reminder naman ng Century (maker) that hdds are delicate devices and should be handled with extra care in this particular case, and should be kept inside an anti-static bag if not in use and stored at proper conditions.  This cradle looks very convenient though especially if you have lots of hdds to swap.  Hot-swapping is not possible though.

Hi sir,  I don't know if this will be the same but I have tried it on a macbook (core 2 duo). My connections were from the mac , a mini-dvi to hdmi converter
was use, then connected it to an onkyo receiver via hdmi. Plasma connected to receiver also.Have set the macbook to dual screen settings for independent
viewing. The audio output I tried for now is just connected via coax. I am using VLC player for  viewing mkv movies. Everything works fine.

You may check out the Power Mac outlet in Greenbelt 3 ... they have a Mac connected to a large flat panel (not sure if plasma or lcd) ... the display is quite impressive

That is what I 'm using before kaso parang sa lahat ng speakers, kasama yung surrounds,  lumalabas yung dialogue kaya I preferred using my receiver and set it to DTS Neo. Mas okay sa'kin yung ganung setup. Just IMO.  ;)

In my case, sa DTS neo muddled ang sound and yung dialogue sa L/R channel lumalabas, but w/ DTS interactive mas defined and yung dialogue sa centre channel na...

Define mo yung "vision and understanding" mo ng HTPC.  What do you plan to do with your system?  As is, your current equipment should be able to play all popular formats of audio and video.

One thing I notice, maraming matipid sa internal hard drive space ne.  Hindi nyo kelangan?

Avi:  350MB-1.4GB
Mkv: 1.1GB - 25GB
TV shows:  size of an episode x number of episodes x number of season
Hentai Collection:  ??? - bazillions or gazillions or googlean   ;D ;D ;D
Digital Photos:  a few KB to 10MB per picture depending on your resolution setting and preferences
Compressed Audio (Mp3):  average file size of your ripped song multiplied by the number of songs
Autocad:  work files will range from KB to MB only

Do your math and decide on the size of hard drive space that you need.  You'll never have enough of hard drive space once you start doing serious downloads and high resolution back-ups of your DVD/HD DVD/BD collection.

Kung maselan ka sa sound, you should buy a good soundcard (Onkyo, Azuntech etc.) and connect your PC to an amplifier through SPDIF.  Otherwise, try the output quality of your on-board audio first.  Passable na yung quality ng mga bagong on-board sound (compared to previous gens).

Personally, I'd give more priority on the quality of video by buying the best video card and monitor combination I can afford.  I think ATI is more appropriate for HTPC applications, nonetheless your Nvidia card should suffice.

You might want to consider combination HD-DVD/BD drives.
