well as per my experience ..
our local distro here does not order new stocks/revisions unless the old stocks/revisions are depleted ..
bad thing is that the old revision of gigabytes 780g has so many negative feedbacks ..
so as you see most guys already bought emaxx .. heck, i even got the 2nd or 3rd revision already ..  ;D
btw this plays 720p and 1080p without hiccups .. ;)
bluray and hd dvd playback is also flawless (i have and identical setup with my friend who has a bluray/hd dvd combo drive)

thanks! kelangan ng mag ipon ipon ulit, P4 2.4Ghz lang yung HTPC ko eh, japanese pa yung OS, hirap basahin :D

How often do you upgrade?   With no new high def video format in the immediate horizon, any C2D system you build right now would not be underpowered for at least 3 years.   Nothing beats a system that can play whatever video/movie/game you put into it smoothly, especially those CPU-power hog 1080p contents.

3,000 in 3 years is like 2.74 pesos per day.

But if you are considering the 3.0GHz C2D, you might as well choose the 2.4Ghz Quad Core assuming your mobo supports the Quad since you mentioned video transcoding.  Set up a dual monitor so that you can watch high def stuff on one while encoding/rendering on the other (or looking at your patient's charts on the other  ).  I think the current price level is about the same.  Many mainstream apps ang games may not be optimally "parallelized" at the moment but you'd surely get better leverage out of a Quad 3 years down the line.

Sir Condalkin, thanks so much for the advise.  Yes, the price difference between a C2D 3.0GHz is P1k compared to a 2.4GHz Quad core.  My present Athlon XP2000 setup which conked out on me served me a good 5-6 years so most probably my next upgrade would be 2013 (?)  ;)  Might as well, shell out a bit more for a Quad core.    ;D

actually video encoding/rendering (most media stuff) will be utilizing all four cores of a quad core and some games too .. and with the price of a  core2quad 2.4ghz .. it will be the best option .. you can never go wrong  .. :)

I previously had an HP w2207h, this monitor already has HDMI, tested it with my dv600 and it already accepts both the video and audio(though the built in speakers are a bit weak). Some other features it has are: USB hub, portrait and landscape orientation.

Also I think the latest HP is the w2228h, you may also want to check that out.

Thanks

I bought it thru my brother (circuit City shop in the US) $50 on sale

most computer shops have these multimedia remote .. ;D
nemesis91 also sells logitech remote (forgot the model name though) ..

This is a bit different that the normal ones sold , it has a mouse function similar to how you operate a laser pointer . I don't think there is a logitech harmony remote that incorporates the functionality of the logitech aero mouse , which would have been the equivalent , except the harmony has so much more functions ...

since this is a TFT panel, mejo limited ang viewing angle. Ginamit ko ito sa bedroom setup using a tv tuner and the pio dv600. Ok naman sya, just angle it properly. When watching the local news, kuntento na ko sa built in speakers, pero pag dvd watching naka hook sa external speakers.

Just got Viewsonic 22" VX series. Specs look good w/ 20,000:1 CR, 2ms response time, w/ speakers. Connectivity though is through DVI and D-sub only. I can always get an HDMI-DVI adapter if the need arises.

One of the most important things you have to consider before buying a wireless keyboard or mouse is yung intended range of use.  For instance, if you want to have wireless gadgets for your HTPC in the living room, or in the presentation room, then you need those high radio frequency (expensive) models with up to 10-15 meter range.

Pero kung normal PC usage lang, that is, you would be computing from within 6 feet distance, then standard wireless keyboard and mouse are fine.

Maselan ako sa feel ng keyboard and sensitivity ng mouse so I prefer Microsoft or Logitech.  Mahal pero worth the investment because years naman ginagamit.  I think the "feel" of keyboard and/or mouse is a very personal thing.

unfortunately... er, fortunately for moi, di ako maselan sa KB and mouse so i can go cheap! ;)  ;D ;D

and yes, for living room/bedroom use only.

anyone of you tried the CD-R King ones yet? feedback naman. TIA!

The cheapest Logitech wireless (1.5K in Gilmore) is cheaper than the CDR King Wireless(2.5K), and better...since you can upgrade the drive to be Vista compatible. ;)

You might also want to try a bluetooth mouse.  At least you don't need an IR receiver to connect with your mouse even when you are far away in a room.
