Back to the Future Trilogy
« on: Nov 16, 2002 at 04:50 PM »
Would anybody here know if the R3 version of the "Back to the Future" trilogy will be released here the same time it is released in the US this Dec. 17?

Thanks!

According to Universal/Magnavision, there's no clear schedule for BTTF. Originally, we were supposed to parallel the R4 version which was mid-2002, but we were instead delayed to coincide with the R1 release.

Whether that's pushing through is still a big question mark.

Thanks for the replies!

I was able to call up Magnavision and inquired if BTTF will be part of their December releases.  According to them, BTTF Trilogy is suppose to be released by December 5, although nothing is really definite yet.  There are times when scheduled releases are delayed due to a lot of reasons.  I really hope that this comes out before Christmas!

We should also try to find out if the BTTF dvd release will mirror the R1 or the R4 release. I read online that the R4 release lacks a number of extras that will be on the R1 release...coz they were shooting some footage for the R1 in October or Sept...when the R4 was released. ---thus the R1 release was delayed.

I'm not quite sure on the differences of the extras, the specs for each individual disc of the R1 are sketchy at best. The most we can do is wait for it to be released and compare with the detailed R4 listing, I guess...

I just saw the Back to the Future Trilogy R3 box set here in Hong Kong, it's selling cheaper than the R2 PAL UK version, but the box doesn't say anything about any features. Would anyone know if there are features included? It has DTS though.

Now that the widescreen framing errors have been discovered in the R1, R4, and probably even the R3 versions of BTTF, I wonder if they will hold off releasing it here till they have the corrected editions in February? Many claim to have already seen R3 editions about abroad...will the R3 version we get later on be the correct framing? And if not, will there be a place locally that we can have the discs changed?

Just hope that they dont dump the 'defective' discs here hoping (expecting) that we will not complain.

Just ordered  and got my BTTF R1 from Amazon.  Nabasa ko ang framing error news after I got the item.  we'll sa hassle na maidudulot ng returning to US and shipping... I don't think I'll return it.... pagtyatyagaan ko na lang.....(not unless there's some errors etc. other  than the framing)eto lang masasabi ko at this point about the disc.... (di ko panata-try panoorin lahat and just managed to scan a few scenes.).... generally mukang hindi ganon kalake or noticeable ang framing errors sa part 2 and part3... especially since I'm viewing it on a 4:3 TV.  In  effect, it looks like I got a FULL screen disc.  If I viewed the whole dics I'll give another update.

i got the full screen version instead.
sabi nila mas malaki ang nawala sa widescreen kase parang yung full screen lang din yun with two black bars.

ang sama ng transition between menus. parang bitin.

ganun din ba sa widescreen?

Bro,

Ganon din sa widescreen....  iyong transition between menus may kabagalan... saka ang menus di ako masyadong nagandahan sa dating at pati resolution
parang tinipid baga.

Saw the trilogy(R3) at astrovision and they're selling it at P2250. Has anyone bought this? Just want to know if they have the same features as the R1 version. Thanks.

I also saw the widescreen R3 version of Back to the Future at Astro SM City.  Based on what I've read on the back cover, I would say that the features are identical to the R1 version (Canadian) which I have, except of course for the audio tracks.  While the R1 Canadian version has English and French, the R3 version has English and L.A. Spanish tracks.  I just hope that the R3 version does not have the misframing errors like the initial R1 release.

By the way, one major difference I detected is that the R3 version has a DTS track, while the R1 only has Dolby 5.1.

About the cover, the R3 cover is different from that of the R1 version.  The R3 cover is more similar to the black R2 cover.

At the price of P2,250, it's worth it.  I actually bought mine for P2,500 last December.  Since mine was part of the batch with misframing errors, I've already requested for replacements discs last May.  However, to date, I still have to receive them from Universal Studios (Canada).

Yesterday, I bought my copy of the Reg 3 BTTF Trilogy from Astrovision SM City-Cebu for P2,250.  I can confirm what rafgar said: that the R3 has DTS.

AMAZON.COM lists the following for Region 1 BTTF Trilogy (Widescreen Edition):

Technical Information

Release Information:
Studio: Universal Studios
DVD Release Date: December 17, 2002
Run Time: 342 minutes
Production Company: Universal Studios
Package Type: Box Set

Aspect Ratio(s):
Widescreen anamorphic - 1.85:1

Discographic Information:
DVD Encoding: Region 1
Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 5.1), French (Dolby Digital 5.1)
Available subtitles: Spanish

Edition Details:
• Encoding: Region 1 (U.S. and Canada only. This DVD will probably NOT be viewable in other countries. Read more about DVD formats.)
• Color, Closed-captioned, Widescreen, Box set, Dolby
• Commentary by Michael J. Fox, Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale
• Production notes
• All films completely remastered
• "Animated Anecdotes" - option to see over 150 facts and trivia notes while viewing
• Outtakes and bloopers
• Deleted scenes
• Live Q&A session
• Interviews with the stars
• Original "Making of Back to the Future" featurette
• Evolution of the special effects featurette
• The Hoverboard test
• Interactive production archive
• Music videos
• Screen tests and more
• Widescreen anamorphic format
• Number of discs: 3

It seems that the Region 1 does not have DTS (as rafgar had pointed out).  I don't know about you but the only thing I don't like about the Region 3 is the way they packaged the discs.  Since Disc 2 is overlapped over Disc 3, it seems that Disc 2 could be easily scratched if you're not careful enough.  Otherwise, I'm very satisfied with this purchase (comes out to about P750/movie).

Hi art00!

If possible, can you give us feedback regarding the framing of the R3 version?  I plan to buy the local release if it doesn't contain the errors.

Please refer to the link below and look for subtitle's post. It has screen shots of the misframed version.

http://www.pinoydvd.com/yabbse/index.php?board=27;action=display;threadid=4015;start=20

Thanks.

hi. art00... i know this is asking a lot... but can you confirm ife r3 has been spared of the misframing errors found on the initial release of the r1?

i think you can find examples of the misframing errors on this thread.

magna di ba ang BTTF Trilogy? and magna has been known to sell dvds playable also on r1 players... in fact i suspect discs like those are probably re-"marked" r1s. as liner notes of magna titles are printed locally while the discs are imported. i just hope hindi tayo naging tambakan ng mga misframed r1s! (i noticed na walang asian languages yung subtitles kasi... suspicious me. but then walang DTS yung r1.... hmmmm.)  ;)

DTS 5.1? Discreet 6.1?
DD 5.1? DD ES 5.1?

Hi dobler and spaceman:

I'm sorry but I've watched only BTTF I and only in my PC.  According to the thread that you're referring to, BTTF I is NOT affected by this "framing" problem so I can't really confirm or deny whether or not the Reg 3 set has this.

Anyway, if you could provide the exact timestamp or chapter stops where this problem is obvious I would gladly check it out for you.  Please indicate also which movie ( II or III) to look for this problem.  Also, I don't have either the Laserdisc WS or the Fullscreen version so I do not have anything to compare with.  All I have are the screenshots provided by subtitle in that other thread.

Anyways, I might be able to view the other 2 discs in the next couple of days and report back if I notice anything ASAP.  Wish I could be of more help.

yup art. BTTF is not misframed. only II and III are.

i guess the best part to check is when christopher lloyd's character teaches marty how to use his clothes after he gets them wet... or was it para mas kasya sa kanya? (in the future). i think you can see those scenes in the link we provided.

no need to have the laserdisc... just check if the professor's hand stays in frame when he reaches to press a button in marty's clothes. if it never goes out of frame... then corrected na nga iyun. hope this helps. you would be doing us all a great service if you can check this.  ;)

thanks in advance.  :P
