"Bynum Posts up at the Wild Card Gym" Whenever the NBA lockout ends, don’t expect Lakers center Andrew Bynum to come back in the physical condition of Shawn Kemp (the perennial All-Star, who infamously gained another half-a-person) as he returned to the Cavaliers for the shortened 1998-1999 campaign. Six days a week, Bynum gets in a daily workout at the renowned Wild Card Boxing Club, the home of trainer Freddie Roach and fistic standouts like Manny Pacquiao, Amir Khan and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (more on) http://www.maxboxing.com/news/main-lead/bynum-posts-up-at-the-wild-card

The NBA lockout looks like a lock

By Nicholai R. Roska
PhilBoxing.com
Sat, 06 Aug 2011

LOS ANGELES -- A friend of mine recently walked into a dealership hoping to buy a new car to replace a 1995 Toyota Camry that had served him exceptionally well for about 182,760 odometer miles.

After an elaborate tour around the vehicle emporium, a luxury car caught his fancy. It was a marvel of German engineering, a 2011 Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG. To my friend's awe-struck eyes, it was inarguably the most beautiful four-wheeled contraption he had ever laid eyes on.

The very thought of owning his own Benz made my friend feel sexy, like he was a magnet for girls. He was so eager to buy the convertible he already pictured himself gliding into sunset, riding happily ever after.

Unfortunately, finance was an issue. You see, the 2011 Mercedes Benz SL63 AMG carried a price tag of $120,000. And my poor buddy only had money for a 2011 Honda Civic, which costs about $18,000 brand new.

Obviously, no purchase was made. And so everybody lost. The car salesman missed out on a potentially hefty commission. My friend didn't drive away with his dream car. And the neighboring gas station had one car less to fuel up.

This above story reminds me of the ongoing NBA lockout. Both parties -- owners and players -- seem genuinely willing to make a deal, but the numbers simply do not add up.

"We're $800 million apart," said Billy Hunter, NBA players association executive director who boldly declared yesterday that the 2011-12 NBA season may be wiped out.

And he may be right. Because, thus far, neither owners nor players are willing to budge.

The owners want to cut down on expensive and long-term guaranteed contracts. They'd rather pay performance than potential. Think LeBron James, who's raking in over $100 million while collecting zero NBA titles. Think Greg Oden, who's collecting a little over $6 million a year despite playing just 82 games in the last four years.

But the players insist they deserve every dime they get. Their sports careers, they argue, are on a limited timetable and therefore they deserve the most money they can get before they enter the real world.

My friends in the East Coast like their long summers, when flowers bloom and the sun seems to smile all day. But they also look forward to the fall and early winter, because that time of year usually means the NBA is upon us.

This year, though. looks bleak. The lockout is here to stay. Which means that the winter only brings cold nights and thick snow. No NBA. (NRR

as expected, it was DR's night. pero hindi nagkalat si dennis. pang MMK ang dating ni Hall of Famer.

“I didn’t play the game for the money, I didn’t play the game to be famous,” he said. “What you see here is more just an illusion that I love to just be an individual that’s very colorful.”

Rodman deserves to be in the HOF. Touching speech.

He says his father has 47 children in the Philippines. Scoring machine naman ang tatay. Philander pa ang pangalan.
We deserve better.

Rodman was often overlooked and underrated during his time.

And yet he won rebounding titles during the era of Antonio McDyess, Chris Webber, Kevin McHale, Kevin Garnett, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Derrick Coleman, Shawn Kemp, Brad Daugherty, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Shaquille O'Neal.

I'm pretty sure, moving forward, any defensive specialist in the PF position will always be compared to him and be found wanting.

The NBA-Fantasy League Season at ESPN is almost here, I think drafting begins on Sept-28. With all the uncertainties surrounding the lockout, I wonder how Fantasy League players will draft. Free Agents remain unsigned ... some of the players might retire ... the season might get cancelled.

‘Lockout League’ Is Set to Tip Off in Las Vegas
By HOWARD BECK
Published: September 3, 2011

A swarm of Knicks, Clippers and Rockets players will soon descend on Las Vegas for two weeks of intense competition — only without coaches, contracts or the imprimatur of the N.B.A.

The jerseys will be unfamiliar and the games fairly meaningless. But for the first time since June, N.B.A. players will be competing against N.B.A. players in something resembling an N.B.A.-caliber league.

The site will be the Impact Basketball gymnasium, about two miles from the Strip. The unofficial commissioner will be Joe Abunassar, a longtime trainer of N.B.A. players. More than 40 players, locked out of N.B.A. facilities because of a labor standoff, have committed to play. Chauncey Billups, John Wall, Zach Randolph and Stephen Jackson will be among the headliners.

“This is an effort on our part to get these guys as ready for training camp as they can get, without going to training camp,” Abunassar said in a phone interview. “That’s the allure of it.”

The tournament has been named the Impact Basketball Competitive Training Series. You could call it the Lockout League.

NBA postpones training camps, cancels 43 preseason games

(Reuters) - The National Basketball Association (NBA) said on Friday it had postponed training camps and canceled the first week of preseason games as it struggles to reach a new collective bargaining agreement with players.

The NBA, in the midst of its first work stoppage in 13 years, said training camps scheduled to open October 3 have been postponed indefinitely and 43 preseason games from October 9-15 have been canceled.

"We have regretfully reached the point on the calendar where we are not able to open training camps on time and need to cancel the first week of preseason games," NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement.

"We will make further decisions as warranted."

Since locking out players on July 1 after negotiations for a new labor deal collapsed, the NBA has cut its workforce by about 11 percent and postponed a program that provides rookie players with skills and information necessary for a successful transition into the league.

NBA owners contend the league lost $300 million last season with 22 of 30 teams in the red. They want the league's share of basketball-related income increased from 50 to 57 percent, along with a firm salary cap and shorter contracts.

The players offered to reduce their share to 54.3 percent.

The lockout threatens the start of the 2011-12 season, scheduled to begin November 1, and marks the NBA's first work stoppage since the 1998-99 season was reduced by 32 games to 50.

due to this NBA Lockout, i think the PBA should grab this opportunity to start the reinforce conference right away so all PBA teams can invite legitimate NBA players to play here and compete.
for a long time i havent been impressed with the imports in the PBA.

Two weeks' worth of NBA regular season games for November are down the drain...  Every day that passes without a deal means more cancelled games...

Assuming that this dispute remains unresolved in the coming weeks, and David Stern is following the same script he used for the 1998-99 lockout, we should expect an announcement towards the end of December (to pressure the players) that the entire season will be cancelled if no agreement is reached in early January 2012.  Wonder who will blink first...
We deserve better.

Anyone else bored with the lockout following #NBARANK at ESPN and Twitter?

Quote
How did we do #NBArank? We asked 91 experts to rate each player on a 0-to-10 scale, in terms of "the current quality of each player."

Top 10 (youngest to oldest): Blake 22, DRose 23, KD 23, Dwight 25, CP3 26, LBJ 26, DWill 27, DWade 29, Kobe 33, Dirk 33

Top 20
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7094756/nba-player-rankings-16-20
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7100076/nba-player-rankings-11-15
20. Z. Randolph
19. T. Duncan
18. M. Ginobili
17. R. Rondo
16. K. Love
15. R. Westbrook
14. S. Nash
13. A. Stoudemire
12. C. Anthony
11. P.Gasol

The top 10 is supposed to be gradually unveiled throughout the day:

10. Blake Griffin
9.  Deron Williams
8.  Derrick Rose
7.  Kobe Bryant
6   Kevin Durant
5
4
3
2
1

Agree or Disagree? Who's overrated? Who's underrated?

I think that the top 10 list will be somewhat interesting coz there's no clear consensus #1 this year. In the past few years, the clear winner would have been easily Kobe or Lebron, but this year there could be a surprise winner (D. Rose? Dirk? Dwight? Wade? CP3?)

Oh man, I'm really bored with the lockout... :P

blake griffin #10 after 1 season? wow.

32-50 season record, from the previous 29-53. his dunks only increased their crappy record for 3 games. and he's number 10 in the league. lol.

rose @ #8. hmmm mvp. could be, i think its just about right. though he is an offensive powerhouse, he can still get better.

considering its espn, alam na bakit #7 si kobe and im sure "mr. regular" season is in the top 3.

The Blake Griffin ranking was insane. Personally I'd replace him w/ either Pau or Rondo in the top 10. I guess part of the voting bias is based on potential since many players on the top 50 are good players on bad teams. K. Love at 16 is ridiculously overrated too. And I don't buy Curry, Monta and Wall in the top 50 since their teams are awful.

Underrated: Chauncey,David West, T. Parker, Kwame, Jason Collins, D. Fisher

Kobe at #7 is somewhat of a shocker, I thought he'd end up at the top 3. But the top 8 players seem interchangeable, i would personally give them all a 10, and a case could be made on ranking any of them on top of the other.

Wouldn't it be funny if Lebron topped the  ESPN NBA rank?  ;D
