Tuloy ang ligaya indeed ....... that 25M/year from MVP makes it much, much easier to run that basketball program.

Like I said, 25M/year goes a long way for a collegiate basketball program ...... note that 25M is basically the same amount (annual salary cap) one needs to run a PBA team.

Nope, Black is done so he's coaching Talk N Text now. Or it depends if things don't go well with their plans. Next year pa naman eh.

if i remember correctly, black has expressed his desire to step down as ateneo coach after season 74. he was however convinced to stay one more year. without slaugher and salva, i don't think black would be keen on taking the job again, if offered.

Players respond well to Black. They know their roles. The only player I've seen Black really get exasperated with is Buenafe.

. And this happened only when Buenafe would just dribble the ball at the 3-point area, waste the time and then shoot the ball and miss.

Ateneo ties the PCCL finals after a 70-69 win in Game 2 just now.

I don't get why the referees didn't call a shot clock violation on UST on that possession. If the ball doesn't hit the ring and there is no clear transfer of possession, it is a shot clock violation. Kahit na-tap yun to Gonzaga, the tap isn't considered a clear possession. The transfer of possession happened when Gonzaga got the ball and not during the tap. Naka-breakaway tuloy si Kiefer. Still a good game, though. UST really matches well with Ateneo. But this time around, lamang na UST sa coaching.

UST wins the PCCL Championship, 81-76. Ang init ng 3pt shooting nila. Muntikan nga lang dahil they played not to lose after leading by 11 with 3mins left.

UAAP. It's more competitive, has more games and teams take it more seriously.

Easily, it's the UAAP ...... one of the most prestigious (pro or amateur) hoops crown in the land.

Ideally, the PCCL would have provided the toughest competition - since only top & seeded collegiate teams are invited ...... however, scheduling & many other factors prevent it from becoming a truly legitimate, all-collegiate crown.

Nevertheless, a great win for UST hoops ...... moreso for the graduating Fortuna & Afuang.

reason i asked is that the PCCL supposedly has the best all over the Phil, with UST winning it, I was thinking it has more weight that the one they lost to Ateneo, in any case at least this has shown UST is not the same weak team anymore and is capable of winning it all next season, I sure hope so its been a long while.

Same here ..... hope that UST retains the hunger from the last UAAP season & builds on this recent PCCL win - all for the grand prize of winning that UAAP crown again.

However, it would much harder ...... the graduation of main PG Fortuna figures to be a big loss for next year's campaign.

One thing that most (if not all) UAAP winners have in common ..... strong-willed PG's.

Magsanoc steps down as San Beda coach

While bidding farewell to his players, Magsanoc also recommended team consultant Boyet Fernandez as the next head coach, a development that appeared to gain approval from Pangilinan.

“Since Coach Boyet is already with the team, kilala na niya ‘yung mga bata so and’un na rin continuity ng sistema,” the source related. “And MVP now considers Boyet as the top candidate. They will still look for other candidates though, but Boyet appears to have the support of the majority.”

To spend more time with his family ..... totally believable reason, coming from a known stand-up guy like Magsanoc.

I agree that Boyet Fernandez is the best candidate as Magsanoc's replacement.

OT: Actually, Fernandez should've been the head-coach when MERALCO went back to the PBA ..... not the faker-coach Ryan Gregorio.

Anyway, my personal choice for coach? MUKESH ADVANI. His style resembles that of Frankie Lim and he commands great respect from the players, having helped the team in terms of financials.

Pido seems to be leaving UST. I knew it was just a matter of time but I'm still surprised at this, especially after what he's done the past year. They still have a solid team next season even with the departure of Fortuna and Abdul. He's good at getting the best out of his players. I guess the opportunity to coach a PBA team is too much to pass up. But sa Ginebra dapat siya pumunta. Bagay siya dun.

Pido Jarencio would make for a decent head-coach for BARAKO BULL, as he perfectly fits the "mold" of the team ...... more importantly for SMC, Jarencio remains within their umbrella in the PBA.

Note: BARAKO BULL is only fronted by Bert Lina & Tony Chua ..... it's secretly-owned & openly-marketed by SMC - hence the countless number of horrendous lopsided trades between Lina teams and SMC teams.

Now, for Jarencio's replacement ...... why not stick to the grain and give Bal David a formal interview for the job.

David has coached in the amateurs, albeit short stint ..... he also belongs to the Jaworski-school of NSD play.

Delikadesa cguro. He knew he was a replacement coach after Frankie Lim was suspended and he doesnt want to step into Lim for good so Lim can eventually come back to coach the Lions once his suspension is lifted.

It's not to early, it's the best time to leave. It gives UST the time to pick a replacement. It gives the new coach the time to introduce to the team whatever ideas he may have. And it gives the players the time to adjust to the new coach and his system. Mahirap naman kung kelan magsisimula na ang UAAP saka sila mag-aadjust pa.

I meant too early to tell if it's a good thing he leaves now for PBA. Makakailang conference pa before he decides if PBA is for him or not. Tapos balik na lang sa UAAP pag di para sa kanya.
