It's UST vs DLSU for the Finals!
Teng vs Teng for the GOLD!

UST just made history as the only 4th seed so far to beat the #1 seed twice since the final 4 format was introduced.
Kudos to Coach Pido, and his UST Fearless Growling TIGERS!
Coach Pido may not be or never will be recognized as a Tactical Coach but certainly not a doubt he coaches with his HEART.

I'm beginning to like Kevin Ferrer. Under the watchful eyes and guidance of Coach Pido, this lanky forward is playing physically tough both on offense and defense despite his thin frame.
May Tapang, May Yabang, May PUSO.
I can now include him to my future Gilas Team w/c includes Jerone Teng, Ray Parks Jr, Keifer Ravena, Terrence Romeo, and Roi Sumang.

I have to agree with you, bro steelcrazy.

For a really thin and lanky guy, Ferrer played really tough. He wasn't backing down from Parks and actually succeeded in intimidating him. His "tapang" was on both sides of the court... defensive and offensive.

UST needed his intensity.

Yes Coach Pido's intensity brought the best out of his players.
Un mga fundamentals and scientific coaching techniques, all coaches can learn by studying and attending seminars locally or abroad then relate them to his team/players but not all coaches succeed in bringing the best out of his players specially in the crucial games.

All coaches have game plans preparing his team for battle against different opponents but during the game it's still how good a coach motivates his players to perform to the highest level and never give up till the final buzzer.

I hope UST win it all.

Yeah, I'm also rooting for UST, having married to a Thomasian.

Jarencio's style of coaching reminds me so much of Jawo.  Not scientific but more on motivational and bringing out the best in players.  Parang situational and strength ni Pido.  Given a certain situation or play, most often na e-execute ni Pido ng maganda.  Incidentally nga pala, Jawo is Pido's coach in Ginebra.

Sorry loss for NU. If they had beaten UST then all their basketball teams, juniors, women's and seniors would be playing for the championships. As it is, they lost to UST. Their women's team also lost the first game to La Salle. At least their juniors team has a thrice to beat advantage against Ateneo.

Has there ever been a season where the champions for the three categories came from just one school?

Back to back finals appearance by UST.
What made their journey sweet was how they kept fighting despite their King Tiger not playing for 6-7 games due to injury.

Coach Pido was very emotional when the game was won.
Tears from his eyes showing his happiness proving his detractors wrong.

Teng vs Teng.
I'm sure Papa and Mama Teng will favor UST to win being the final year for son Jeric to finish his UAAP career with a Championship ring.
Jerone still has 3 more years with DLSU so next time k nlng mgChampion pagbigyan mu muna Kuya Jeric mu para makaisa man lng.

Yup UST won all 3 basketball titles in 1994.

So, my earlier gut-feel post of NU cracking under pressure and DLSU winning (even before their last 2 matches against FEU) came true.  ;)

For the Finals ....... heart says UST, but mind says DLSU.

Both UST and DLSU are peaking, but I've always said that great guard play is damn essential for every UAAP champ - in that regard, DLSU has the edge due to its army of guards that are playing their best right now.

Despite the recent surge, UST's backcourt is shaky (save for a surprising Sheriff)...... Jeric Teng is all-heart, but obviously still hurt ...... Tata Bautista will forever be limited and inconsistent.

One more important thing, everyone knows who the refs will "favor" in these Finals.

“That was the game-changer. That’s what I told the refs. It really did ...... It is really hard to play those schools. If you are not Ateneo or not La Salle, it’s really hard to win. You need to bring your A-game. That’s a given,” - Nash Racela

Let's enjoy these Finals ...... many great storylines this year - Teng Vs. Teng, 90's rivalry, Pido's old-school methods, etc.

IMO the safe bet in these Finals is DLSU ...... but it's one bet that I wont mind losing.  ;D

Congrats UST ;D  Nice D by Abdul blocking Revilla's looper.

Coach Pido very humbly says, "Breaks of the game... "  Asked by TJ Manotoc ano iniisip nyang strategy next game, sabi ni Allan K, este ni Coach Pido :  "Alam mo, TJ before the game lang ako nagiisip ng gagawin.  After the game, hindi na muna ako nagiisip.  Makainom lang ako ng malamig na San Miguel Beer masaya na ako..."

Idol Coach Pido!! No intelligent analysis.  No fuss.  Plain and simple "laro lang" and pure heart!!!

Booo

La Salista ako  :P

But it's UST deserving the crown this year. With all the drama, injuries, unexpected wins from top seeds, lessons from previous championships they are deserving. La Salle is a young team and they have proven then again they are a hot contender. Maybe not this year, everyone goes through the hardships and every champion should earn it. It's part of the game. There will be heartbreaking losses before a team becomes a champion. Ateneo did that, La Salle, UST, FEU and so on.

Next game

Para lang nag one on one ang Teng brothers hehe

Very true, breaks of the game talaga after UST's turn over after a time out but they still played good defense and didnt lose composure.
Correct as Jeric said, it's their experience that won them the game.

When the game is on the line, it's all about HEART and that's what UST have PURE HEART!
Vindication for Coach Pido if UST can finish DLSU on Saturday.
Gee yoU aRe yoU!
