not recommended. signal from the active player could fry the opamps of the idle one, or the low output impedance of the idle opamp could appear as a short to that of the active one. it's analogous to feeding a pair of speakers with two amplifiers, only on a smaller scale.
you need a 5-way selector switch for that.

1. Where do you find a 5-way selector switch and how much does that usually cost?
2. Aside from this option, any other work around so I can still use my existing set-up with purchasing a new AVR? (of course, aside from constantly changing the rca jacks from the dvd player to the media player and vice versa whenever the other unit will be used)
