Topic: 51D550 vs 51D490 vs 50PW350

I'm looking forward to upgrade my current 32 LG LCD and get a much bigger one.
So these 3 models is what I'm aiming for at the moment.

Sammy 51D550 price sa SNS (56k + 2 3D glasses + 4 Shrek BD):
pros:
- 1080p resolution
- nice look
- based sa mga reviews na nabasa ko, it has very good blacks and can be compared sa panasonic plasma
- 3D
- can play most video files and decode DTS

cons:
- power consumption is much higher than the LG plasma - around 300w
- there has been known issues about brightness pops which sabi ay meron na daw fix to minimize it using some firmware upgrade (though I'm not 100% sure din about this cause base sa region ata yung firmware ayun sa AVSforum)


Sammy 51D490 price sa Sns (48k with 2 3d glass plus shrek BD) - need to verify the price pa as this is not updated

Pros:
- almost same with the D550

Cons:
- 720p set (the D550 is 1080p)
- power consumption is much higher than the LG plasma - around 300w
- Not sure if D490 has the brightness pop issue? sabi kasi lahat ng D series ng samsung plasma has this issue but I rarely see people complaining about this issue for this model sa mga forums. Halos wala nga ako nakita.

Note:
- 1,360 x 768 Native Resolution nito ,better than the LG


Now I'm confused. Balak ko sana sa Friday bumili since birthday ko this coming Saturday, pa-birthday ko na sa sarili ko. hehe.

I'm 50% gaming- PS3 (I'm itching to play Uncharted 3 in 3D  ) and 50% movies (watching .mkv files mostly 720p through my external HD).

Malaki po ba ang difference ng 1080p sa 720p sa mga 50" displays? mga 6 feet viewing distance.
Honestly pag tumitingin ako sa mga shops, halos di ko makita ang difference. Though I'm using 1080p 32 inches LCD ngayun and sa mga games ng PS3 sobrang laki kasi ng pagbabago from 720p to 1080p games. Pero sa movies, di ko masyado nahahalata.

I will still make some testing side by side sa SNS kapag bibili na ako which I think will be very critical sa final choice ko. Pero I wanted to get inputs sana before hand.

Right now I'm leaning more towards the D550. Hopefully someone can enlighten me more about this if it is worth it to pay 8k-10k more for this model. Im on my early 20's, and hoping to enjoy this TV for the next 3 years until mapatayo ko na ang bahay ko and settle down (im planning to have a dedicated home theater ). So medyo critical and magiging desisyon ko dito.

Sammy 51D550 is a fantastic TV which is almost similar to the Sammy D6900 without the SMART TV function.  Great 2D to 3D conversion. 

But  I would compare the Sammy 51D550 to the LG 47LW450 or LG 47LW550T which are both 1080p not with the lower LG models before buying.

Do you want a PLAMA TV - go for Sammy
Do you want a LCD/LED TV- fo for LG

another thing, 3D!

Do you want a ACTIVE set - go for Sammy
Do you want a PASSIVEset - go for LG

My vote goes to the D550 using it for a month now no problems. I do not see the brightness pops + I love playing uncharted 3 on it The D490 is also a very good set so if gusto mo maka tipid go for it. Regarding the warranty same lang sila sa LG which is 2 years din for sammy plasma's.

When it comes to plasmas LG has a problem with input lag according to my reasearch minsan aabot ng 100ms like the PK550.

Wala kasi yung mga mid end panasonic plasmas dito sa atin its either the low end x30 or high end v30.

P.S. - at your viewing distance im pretty sure you can see the difference between 1080 and 720.

Go for the 51d550 na lng. Had the lg50pw350 for a while, but eventually upgraded to the sammy. Sulit siya sa 56k. Panasonic kasi too expensive naman. My sammy has no issues pa naman. Been using it for almost 2 months now. For 56k, sulit na yung features niya. Full HD and 3D na. At least hindi ka na magsisi later on na hindi full hd ang binili mo. For displays above 42 inches, go for full hd na. Hope this helps.

Nice! I have excluded LG na. I am now looking into D550 and D490 pero mukang D550 na ako. But I will still audition both if my untrained eye can see a big difference between the two. Malaki laki din kasi yung 8k. haha!

Mga sirs question lang po, @Doedoe at barash,

1. Wala pa po kayu na-nonotice na brightness pops pa? eto yung mainit na issue sa avsforum for D series eh.

2. Kamusta naman ang power consumption? Malaki ba ang tinaas sa bill?  

3. Also, how's the 3D? both movies and ps3 games (if you have tried it)? Ok naman ba yung depth? No ghosting? Ma-cocompare na ba sa mga passive 3D LEDs (though may mga nabasa ako mas maganda ang passive at pagka3D sa plasmas) at sa mga 3D sa sinehan?

4. Sa SNS nyo ba nabili yung units nyo? How big was the box? Mukang kailangan ko pa i-padeliver to kasi sobra laki, di kakayanin sa taxi.. haha, Cavite pa kasi ako and wala akong wheels.

Tumawag ako sa SNS, discontinued na pala yung D490 sa kanila. So I guess this makes it more easy for me. I'll go for the 51D550.

magcomment lang ako ha. yang mga plasma models din sana kunin ko dahil mura at malaki pa ang size pero when i simulate the electricity consumption vs LCD and LED, it's really worth to buy the LED or LCD. pag alam mo mataas ang power consumption ng tv mo, lagi ka magdadalawang isip kung manunuod ka lagi ng movies. kung gagamitin mo sa gaming for sure mas mahabang oras ang gamitan which will result to high electricity bills. mataas talagaang first cost ng LED pero tingin ko pag alam mong mababa power consumption mas madalas mo magagamit at mas maappreciate mo un features ng tv mo. para maka save ka wag ka na kumuha ng smart TVs kasi puede naman sa computer un at d naman lahat ng apps dun e free. parang itunes din yan may bayad din un ibang apps.goodluckand sana d ka malito. hehe..

for3D tv mas gusto ko un LG na passive kasi bukod sa maraming free na 3d glasses, dpa kailangang irecharge, at ouedeng puede sa bata.
