sabi ko na nga ba ikaw yun, sir sandawa. When the seller said the buyer was from Davao, ikaw yung una kong suspect  ;D

Well, I'm glad that it was you who got it. It can't have a more deserving owner  :)

I'm eyeing know a Sansui 9090DB instead  which I saw a couple of weeks agao sa Dau.

Congrats on your new purchase, sir!
sorry, i beat you into it. bought it through a cellphone call last week - i'm from Davao. Narayan got it for me, will pick it up mid January and it will be part of my close to two dozen vintage amp collection. was told it's not in mint condition and exhibits channel imbalance. nice thing about it is it has a service manual available free online. i think, it needs some restoration work: recapping and valve changes and that could mean a couple of Gs more to spend. luckily, i still have about a dozen tube spares here, including ax7s.

There should be plenty now,  last year, most were prologic receivers, very few 5.1.

mga sir's,

I got this AV receiver for Php. 5,000.00 (prologic nga lang), here in one of the thrift shop in Evangelista, Makati.
I think it is also from Japan, the back panel is 100V, at 200W.

Can someone advise mo on where I can buy a 100V transformer? coz when I use my current 110V stepdown, it is really getting hot, is it safe to use a 110V stepdown?...

I'm also looking for a remote control for this reciever...

the model is "YAMAHA DSP-2000" I think its counter part in europe is "DSP-E1000"...

Anways this is how it looks...

by the way the Yamaha DSP's are great...

hi,
if i were you i'd have that converted to 220volts, cost is about the same as buying a transformer. you can de-install the power transformer and bring it to Podmon in legarda for the conversion.

this way, murphy is excluded from your avr. ;D
That's OK, you can like or dislike anything you choose. That's the wonderful thing about the freedom

Yamaha DSP 2000 at P5K is quite reasonable (current Yahoo Japan re-sale value: below 10,000 yen). my only problem with Jap AV amps is that you need the original remote control units for them to be fully functional. controls for most of these amps are not available on the front panel (including the hidden buttons inside the flip-down covers). but i understand spare remote units could be ordered by mail from Yamaha Japan (check the local Yamaha dealers, they may have an RC unit that would work on that model).

Your right sir 2ny had problems with the controls, cant adjust them at all. plus when I'm using the prologic enhance the center is to loud, cant even notice the sound from my L/R fronts. the seller of this unit has a remote control but the bad thing is he wont sell it. sana available ang remote locally...

Original quote for this is Php 7,5T got it for Php.5T and it is really heavy (12kg) almost had a arm dislocation from carrying it hehehe... The sound is quite good naman the reason why I bought it is because of the DSP's and the Prologic. I had a konzert 502A but im not happy with its prologic decoding "kuno" so Im just using it for loud music. plus I heard YAMAHA AVR that are made in Japan are durable...

One more thing Sir Sandawa, the amp is really getting hot but it performs well naman, yun lang ang problem ko umiinit talaga is it because of the 110V transformer? I want to keep the orginal 100V sana kung where can I buy a 100V stepdown, please need help...

here in Davao, 100V transformers are everywhere - from hardwares to electrical shops - and they come cheaper too compared with those of 110V ratings. i'm using Panther and Zebra brands, which i think are quite reliable (Zebra also has inputs for both 110V and 100V)

hans,

is this the specs of your amp?

Specifications DSP-E1000

Minimum. RMS Output Power (8 Ohms, 20-20,000 Hz)
Front Channel Does not provide main channel
Centre Channel 80 W (0.015% THD)
Effect Channel 25 W + 4 W (rear/front) (0.05%)
Pre Out Terminals Main, Centre and Effect Channels
Subwoofer Outputs
Duel Centre Speaker Capability
Remote Controllable Master Volume Motor-Driven with LED
Direct DSP Programme Access
Dynamic Power/Ch (8/6/4/2 ohms)
Damping Factor (8 ohms 20-20,000 Hz)
Frequency Response (20-20,000 Hz) +/-1.0 dB (pre out)
THD (8 ohms, 20-20,000 Hz) 0.005% (centre, pre out)
Signal-to-Noise Ratio (CD) 96 dB (tape monitor)
Dimensions (W x H x D) 435 x 131 x 386 mm
Weight 12 kg

Wouldn't it be the reason that you get a louder center channel than the mains since it is mentioned in the specs that that it is a 80Wx1 (center) and 25wX4 (effects) amp?  I remember during Yamaha's AVR "pro-logic" days that they use have a 2 FRONT EFFECTS channel and 2 REAR EFFECTS channel, like for the 795 model ata.  Does this mean you may need a 80x2 W MAIN channel.

Just curious. ;)

this is a correct observation. the Yamaha DSPs (digital sound processors) need a main stereo amp to perform according to specs. manuals for DSP models, i think, are available in the Yamaha website free to download.

The Pier Surplus outlets sell those 100 volt step down transformers. You can get them in various wattages. I am not sure if i recall correctly but the 200+watter goes for about 250+ pesos while the 400+ watt transformers goes for about 400 Plus pesos. I suggest you get the higher wattage transformers in case you need to power more than one unit.

I've been seeing a Yamaha DSP2000 in one of the pier outlets for several months now. It was being quoted at 8000 pesos then. Its probably still there now. Its in the last outlet after Little Chatty's.

Some of the Japanese surplus units that i own have provisions for easy conversion to 220 volts with just a few re direction of the power source wirings by a good technician. After a few accidents, I've preferred conversion to using transformers whenever possible. (Yes, i've properly labelled all my 100 volt electrical plugs and Murphy still exercises his Law.)

yes, murphy is hard to avoid at times, ;D i remember in the early 90's when i still have this repair shop, a friend was bragging about the portable boom box his wife sent him from japan. so i told him, bring it in for conversion, it will only cost you 250, but before he could do that, the maid plugged the thing in!!! so he spent 2500 to have it repaired! ;D

mral of the story, keep murphy out whenever you can.

Sir yan nga ang specs, I think that is the counter part of DSP2000 sa europe. im having hard time using it without remote, I just dunno if I can adjust the speakers levels (eg. small or big fronts, LFE etc..) and also and room size kung may adjustment man ito, even sa main, center or rear speaker volume...

Plus im having hard time cant find the manuals...

Thanks sir, I'll try to look for those stepdowns. Sir ganun ba talga ka mahal ang DSP ng Yamaha? I got this for 5T only but the problem no remote, the seller has a remote but he wont sell it, the reason? there might be a same unit will arrive sa shop nila kaya he wont sell it...

the good thing about this DSP, it sounded so good with the effects specially with GEQ, plus I want to replace my 502A with a prologic "daw" decoding... maybe I'll try to route up the front's preout with the 502A to power my L/R...

Mga sir's,

When I use ba a 100V stepdowns instead of 110V will it change my Yamaha A/V amp temperature? besides from modifying the AMP itself, how can I lower the heat being produced by the amp?

Your comments and suggestion is highly appreciated!!!

Thanks...

based on experience changing the transformers to the recommended 100v will lower the temperature. used to have that same problem on all of my surplus amps but once i supplied those with the voltage required everything worked out fine.

Hello,
